I keep wanting to have an art style just cause it would be nice to have a recognisable “look”. But it’s not that important, as long as the art is good, I’m happy with it. (Even if people might accuse me of ai or stealing cause my art is THAT inconsistent haha)
I would say that the desire to have a recognizable art style is equally fueled by the need for identity, as much as the need for success. That's why younger artists are so attached to the idea, as they tend to be the people who are searching for themselves the most. Artists want to make something that only they could make, something that represents who they are, something that spreads a message they want to send. That's how I see it, anyways.
You’re exactly on point. Things in my drawings have evolved over time for sure, the hearts in the ears being the one style thing that especially stuck. 😊😊😊.
oh my god THANKJ YOU i love listening to someone talking while drawing and ur voice is so SCRUMPTIOUS??? i hope both sides of ur pillow r cold and comfortable 🫶🫶
Damn this is your first vid? Well now I know who's gonna be the next hit artist, And I'm really happy you brought this topic up. I'm also a young artist who's a tad bit obsessed with finding her art style and is currently going thru art-block bec of that -u-, this vid helped me realise that i never really needed to do that in the first place. And yes, I would honestly love to hear more about your OC's as I'm a sucker for stories! But i also love this little-rant of yours too, so i hope you do that as well. I'm so sorry for the long rant I practically never comment on anything tbh, but I loved your vid very much, okay I'll stop now- keep doing what your doing (+ you earned a sub from me!)
Bruh literally when i stopped caring about art style and just had fun and experimented, i improved a lot and learnt a lot about the art i like to make as well as my creative goals
I disagree it’s important to have an art style especially if you want to have a job in art like animation or character design, if you don’t have a consistent art style and can’t maintain one it’d be harder for you to make money off your art, you’d need to have recognizable art style for people wanting your product, without that then you’re not qualified at all and no one would look at you twice, now if you do art as a hobby then whatever you do with your art is up to you and nobody cares.
Aside from the fact that hunting for an art style is typically detrimental to your growth and learning, if you want a career in art especially as an illustrator I'd really argue that your art needs to be technically proficient, not distinctive. Your clients or employer will want you to basically be able to draw anything so you need to make sure you have strong fundamentals. Having an art style only helps you if you want a brand, and even so people look for art that's appealing rather than unique, so it might not even help you in that regard
an art style is not something people can help, we know is very liable to change and its very heavily influenced by your favourite artists. Having an art style is natural and is only developed after a VERY long time to a point when you the artist are satisfied. Its about you and not your viewers.

Totally agree with your points, life is too short to limit ourselves to one thing
