  • It's time to take this elegant older gal out into the world. The local Moose has an annual cruise in and I thought that it would be a great time to go for a ride and get some fish and beer!

The 277 CID precursor to the 318LA was used in Canadian cars too. 1955 were the last 260 CID V8's Plymouth Division built.

My dad's first Mopar was a '56 Savoy two door with a Powerflite and a 277 poly. It's the oldest car I remember riding as a kid in the 60's. Thelma's dashboard is a very familiar sight and the colour was the same as your car. Glad to see a four door saved and on the road. All of the Forward Look cars are cool from the plainest to the fanciest.

My grandfather had a 56 Plymouth Savoy. It was a v8 with a pushbutton automatic. It was white over black

That's a perfect afternoon! I love the 3 on the tree. I'm a mopar guy these days, but I had, (and wish I still had) a 1961 ford f100, straight 6, oil bath holley, and 3 on the tree, arm strong steering, no power anything, man that truck was fun to drive!

Yeah, that's a cool truck and super easy to work on.

@@Chuck_House_of_Mopar sure was, open the hood, climb in and have a seat. Need an extra hand, there was even enough inner fender for a helper to climb in and sit down too.😂

Annnnnd we're underway on this new episode of "Chuck's Current Money Pit". 🙂
I love seeing another seemingly forgotten old ride being brought back to functionality!
Wife and I had Fred over to the local cancer support groups' annual car show and it was a beautiful day!
Fred always fetches the compliments and stories for sure, but I'm starting to worry about where all these
cool old fixed up cars are going to wind up after we're all gone??
Thanks as always Chuck, see you in the next one,

The parking brake on these will indeed stop the car. I discovered that in an emergency stop when one of the brake flex lines burst and the service brakes of my 1956 Chrysler Windsor failed. I was approaching a traffic light with stopped vehicles in front of my car. I pulled the parking brake as hard as I could. The rear wheels & tires hopped to some extent, but the car came to a halt inches behind a car in front of me. Keep in mind though that this assumes that the parking brake, its shoes & drum are adjusted properly. If the system can stop a Chrysler, it can surely stop a Plymouth which is a lighter vehicle. If you are having to put a wheel chock to keep the car from rolling after you apply the parking brake, it is time to examine the parking brake and make sure that there is no oil or grease on the lining or on the drum surface. Find the instructions for how to make adjustments.

Thanks Joe that's good to know. Way ahead of you on the parking brake issue, that was just the first cruise. Standby to standby as they say.
      Thanks

My first car 56 savoy v8 power flite light blue 2door. Had 60000 miles on it came from Florida to Georgia. $400 . Trans started leaking bad so I traded it in for a 2 year old 66 dodge coronet 500 convertible. My standing in school quickly rose.

@@Chuck_House_of_MoparThe shot of your ‘56 sitting on the flatbed reminded me of watching the new Plymouths and DeSotos being unloaded off of the transporters. My dad was an engineer for Chrysler Corp/Plymouth, so I got to see and ride in some pretty exotic stuff. So yeah. I am so glad to see your ‘56 out and going.
