  • The only year you could get a Challenger with the A47 Special Edition (formal roof) was 1970. So why does this original survivor 1971 Challenger R/T have a formal roof?

Mark if you need an aftermarket Mopar wizard, and I know you and Tony are the OEM Mopar gods, but for aftermarket, consider reaching out to Steve Dulcich or Dave Freiburger from Roadkill / Roadkill Garage! Busy guys but they do a ton of Mopar stuff and most of their engine stuff involves aftermarket engine builds. worth a shot or even a phone call once in a while

Mark is wrong. in 1970 a Challenger RT/SE would be a JS29 code. In 1971 Dodge dropped the 29 (SE) series and the Formal Roof became an option A78 code. and the VIN code would be JS for an R/T. I wrote the book on Challengers and Barracuda's in the 1980's, and I sold parts to Tony.

Mark knows a ridiculous amount about classic Mopars, but Tony D'Agostino is like a walking supercomputer when it comes to what parts came on which car. They both grew up obsessing over VIN codes and - to be fair - that's where the money is for collectors. I remember Direct Connection engine parts before they morphed into Mopar Performance, but I get that Mark means 'non Mopar' suppliers when he talks about aftermarket parts.

Is that a crack in the spark plug boot at 22:43 or a seam? Another great video. I love these cars. especially the green convertable at 32:45.
