So I’m from a very poor family and I knew we’d never be able to afford the Gameboy. My Karate dojo offered one as the top prize to the kid that sold the most candy. I blew that competition out of the water in 1990 and got one! Such a good memory
WHAT AN AMAZING STORY! So cool Dustin..thanks for sharing
Favorite memory: I'm 13 and my uncle got a Game Boy Pocket ice blue edition for Christmas in 1996 and I went into my grandma's attic and found a bunch of NES and Genesis game boxes. I went into a different box and found that Gameboy with Kirby's dreamland in the box and ring rage.
An ice blue gameboy pocket are what dreams are made of!
First memory - playing Pokémon blue on my OG grey brick gameboy. I was stuck in Ash’s house for 30 minutes unable to find the door out until my brother showed me that the rug on the floor was the exit 😂
hahaha i love that. Pokemon blue is so good!
Never had an original gameboy, but my favorite Color memory was when I had been playing Crystal Version for a couple hours for the first time and I was sitting at my sisters dance class and some random kid finally taught me how to get out of my house.
heres a freaky thing....I WAS THAT KID. You're welcome
@@retrorick I'm forever in your debt
Best memory was beating Link’s Awakening on my green Gameboy Pocket! Then I upgraded to a GBC and the DX version. I still have my green GBP with my Nintendo power sticker on the battery case!
That is so rad! i love that
Seriously Retro, you’re my favorite RUclips channel right now. I’m trying to finish up the $10 game challenge playlist and then I’ll be watching the retro pick up videos. I love all of this content, I was born in 89’ so the 90s stuff is right up my alley.
Thank you so much for watching! I’m so glad you are enjoying it, just something about nostalgia that brings a smile to my face
Best memory of the Gameboy was getting my first one from my godmother when I was very young. I never forgot that and it's one of my best memories of her. Everytime I play a Gameboy I think of her and miss her like crazy.
oh man what a great memory!
Life was so much simpler when I had a game boy. I think playing it when we would go on vacation and trying to use streetlights for light when my mom would be driving. It’s a time ill never forget
hahaha streetlight gaming...ive been there my friend!
Playing Pokemon red and blue and trading with link cable was a big memory I had , as well as Zelda. Love the channel, I have even been going to goodwills and flea markets searching myself . But goodwills are EMPTY as heck in the gaming department. Glad your still getting lucky , Good luck , happy shopping !
the link cable is legit!
My favorite memory was when I was a kid I went overseas with my parents to the “old country” and while sitting in my grandparents garden I was playing super mario world the golden coins ... awesome memories
That mario game is so overlooked...i love it!
Favorite memory of game boy is the one vacation I went on as a kid to the beach. My cousin and I rode together and played Dr. Mario for the entire 12 hour ride down.
I love me some Dr Mario!
Man, I had the OG gameboy right when they came out. Kirby, Tetris, Mario, Zelda, and tiny tunes adventure were so fun! Favorite memory: we only took 1 long bus ride in elementary and me and my boyz brought the game boy and played the whole trip, swapped games, and burned through some AA batteries.
That is amazing! And man, you had some solid titles!
One of my first gameboy memories is definitely not one of my favorite memories. Took my gameboy on vacation with me to a beach rental house and we were halfway back from the beach when I realized I left it in the night stand drawer of the vacation rental. Begged my parents to turn around to get it but they insisted it was probably long gone since the cleaning service was literally coming in right behind us as we left. This event is why I probably triple check vacation rentals and hotel rooms to this day before leaving. 😂
hahahaha never know when you are going to find a gameboy LOL
I never had a game boy since I wasn’t old enough but my favorite memory of it was learning about it from your channel
very cool...i didnt get one until later on...they are pretty rad!
O
My first memory is when I got mine for Christmas along with a Gameboy camera. I remember taking pictures of all of my family that day.
ha that is amazing...i actually have never had a gameboy camera surprisingly!
A friend of mine in our old neighborhood got a Game Boy before me when we were kids. I remember playing The Hunt for Red October over at his house. Good times!
ha i think ive played that for the NES but not the gameboy
First game boy memory: Waking up Christmas morning to open my clear game boy pocket and Pokémon red the year it was released. I played that game non stop for months!
What a killer christmas...thats amazing Kyle!
I was so glad to hear you say that “mint” is over-used in describing games. I totally agree. Say it’s in “nice shape” or in “great condition,” but it almost certainly isn’t “minty fresh.” 🙄
For sure...i definitely see things that are mint from time to time but its pretty rare to see it
My first memories of the original Gameboy involves fighting for time on it with my brother and my mom. My mom loved Tetris, so she would pull the "I bought it!" card all the time.
haha dang your mom is savage!
I was in LA during the big earthquakes in 94. The hotel moved everyone into the lobby, and amidst all the chaos, my 10 year old eyes were completely fixated on this kid who had the OG Gameboy with the magnifier/light/speaker attachment. I could not take my eyes off of it. Surrounded by people afraid for their lives, and I'm just in awe of a Gameboy. Lol.
She got straight HOSED lol
Great vid... Love the chanel
ha , i am def going to hook her up with some more games as we get some!
I love this series so much!
Thank you so much John! I am glad you are enjoying it
Favorite Gameboy memory is I had a red Gameboy Color, and I was ADDICTED (like many others) to Pokemon Red. I remember playing it multiple time holding it above my head while laying on the floor, and falling asleep! The damn thing would slip out of my hands as I dozed off and hit me in the head lol. Ah good memories.
haha you should always wear a helmet when gaming Steven
I mowed lawns, washed cars, babysat the neighbors, ANYthing to save up and I bought one about a year after they released the game boy. Best feeling ever!
I remember playing my gameboy advance games on the ds and being amazed
haha i did the same thing!
My prized Nintendo is my pink ds in the box
Gameboy memory: Mrs Coe's 5th Grade, hanging out in the back of the classroom with Eugene sneaking in some Super Mario Land in during class. MWAHAHAHA!
hahaha my man!
First memory, getting it when it came out (or shortly after) for Christmas. Best memory, beating Mega Man Wily's Revenge. That game was hard as fudge!
haha yeah it is! I love that game!
FAVORITE MEMORT; Playing paper boy while spending the weekend with my father, he always bought me the cool stuff!
That is amazing! I have great memories of playing games with my dad too!
My first memory of the Game Boy was walking home from school and there was a box in my bedroom and in the box was a Game Boy Pocket and Tetris. I was going to the park to meat up with a friend and show him the Game Boy but he never showed up so I was playing Tetris on the bench for 15 mins then I walked back home.
ha thats funny but what a great gift!
I never had a GB growing up, but a good friend of mine did and we played the heck out of alleyway. Once I started collecting alleyway had to be the first GB game I got.
very cool! I have never gotten big into collecting for it but i may now!
Tetris on the OG Gameboy with green screen was and still is everything to me. That game and Super Mario Land 1 and 2 are all I had, and all I need ❤
I first played one at my cousins house! They were much older than me and I loved playing Kirbys Dreamland, Mario, The Simpson’s and so many other games. I would sneak away and play with their games all the time. 😂
hahaha that is amazing! I had older cousins that had one, they never let me play theirs lol
favorite memory: nothing like getting to play 5 mins of tetris on your friends gameboy on the bus ride home from school.
yes, i remember those days too!
✊✊✊
I got my Gameboy on Christmas one year. I played Tiny Toon Adventures and TMNT probably more than any other games. Luckily I had a light that attached to it so I never had to worry about being by a lamp or window.
Ha you had to have the light attachment...it was a game changer!
My first memory was when the gameboy first came out. I couldn't believe how cool it was to be able to play a game on the bus! Seeing those robotic hands on the box was so cool!
As an aside....I went to my very first goodwill today.......a few ps2 and wii sports games for 5 and 6 dollars respectively.....and I drove 30 minutes to get there....I shan't be returning.
Ha amazing memory! Yeah i strike out more than score goodwill...its a grind!
Favorite memory of Gameboy , playing Pokemon outside with friends on playing ground or on a Park bench . So we got enough fresh air and sun, Our parents couldn't claim that we are lazy playing at home 🤣
haha good call!
My first Gameboy memory is from 2 months ago, when I found one with Tetris, Dr. Mario and Incredible Crash Dummies for 20 bucks.
dang what a grab!
I’ve never had a game boy but I remember that when I first started going to garage sales this year it was the first thing I found a clear gameboy with chicken run in a case, and the lady wanted $5 for it. I ended up playing it for a bit and it was pretty decent but not the best game I ended up selling the two of them together on eBay for $40 + post.
Btw great video! I love these they’re so well put together and you get some pretty good stuff! 🙏🏻🔥💯
The trade was the best!!
ha amazing pick up! Thank you so much...im glad you are enjoying them!
my very first memory was walking up to my bus stop and seeing people with Gameboys connected playing head to head. Man I can remember playing Tetris for hours. My mom even liked playing Tetris on mine that she bought herself the purple see through color. Thanks again for an awesome video, it brought back so many memories!!!
Favorite memory of the game boy was getting the camera attachment and thinking how cool it was to take pics..and how unique it was for the time.
I actually think it was one of the first digital type cameras on the market!
Awesome trade. You got some really good titles for the collection. My favorite memory with the Original Game Boy is playing Pokemon Red and Blue. My brother had pokemon red and I had pokemon blue. I remember taking it to school to trade and battle friends.
For sure, Pokemon Blue is my favorite on the gameboy by far!
I had a green game boy color & was playing Pokémon Red trying to figure out what to do with my friends
You are going to like the next episode of the $10 dollar game collection...just a heads up. Youll understand why in a week
Older brother got one for his birthday and it quickly became a family gift with everyone fighting over Tetris and Alleyway- still one of my favorite games!
For me was about 10 years old my neighbor had a gameboy and we used to play Pokémon take turns and then play outside till the street lights came on man I miss those days hehe crazy how you as a child never know when the last time will be you go out and play with your friends.
i know right...man i miss those days
My friends and I would go in his parent’s Jeep Wagoner to Discovery Zone and play his original Game Boy in the back seat. What’s more 90’s than that?
hahaha that was the most 90s event possible... i want to relive that!
I only had a few games for the game boy Tetris and a few Wrestling ones when I was a kid
Tetris never gets old to me!
@@retrorick me too I just got Magical Tetris Challenge for the N64 set and about 20 other games I didn't have got some boxes and manuals too
@@rickeyrankin8457 you always getting they pickups RIckey...great job!
@@retrorick thanks my buddy has been helping me out with my collection
@@rickeyrankin8457 great man...glad it is
My grandpa used to work for a company that cleaned hotel rooms. He found a left behind silver gameboy pocket with a case and games...near mint lol. He gave it to me and I took that thing everywhere as a kid until I got the gameboy color.
what!!! That is incredible CJ
I'd say my most nostalgic memory is long road trips with my dad and my stepmom trying to catch the light with that old school Game Boy screen so I could see what was going on.
haha yes been there too!
My favorite memory: playing the go game boy at school.
heck ya, probably wouldnt fly now days at school 😂
My first memory was when I was in grade school and a friend had an original gameboy, and we would take turns in class playing tetris. I loved it. I never had a gameboy of my own
Tetris never gets old to me!
Fave Gameboy memory: visiting my cousin in Bryan, Tx and playing Kwirk all night, staying up until 2 am at 12 years old.
haha Kwirk is a great game!
@@retrorick YES!! And thanks to the stuff I've learned here... I bought the game back to relive the memories.
I've had a lot of Gameboys. My favorite memory is from a little over a year ago. I brought my beater AGS-101 into school and me a couple friends all tried to beat Tetris. One of them finished level 15! It was fun.
First memory was going to my buddies house who had one. It was sooo amazing! Wasn't aloud video games growing up so I didn't get a gameboy until about 4 years ago when I was helping my brother in law clean out his house and he gave me his. My 6th grade self would have been so happy
Baseball for the gameboy was always a favorite of mine during long car rides. I loved how they snuck mario into the cover art without actually making him a licensed property for the game. I recently bought a complete copy in box to add to my collection of childhood memories...good stuff
Holy Moly! 10K subs! Congrats duder! Also I took my Gameboy Pocket to Japan when I was 16. I was all alone and I shared it with a Japanese man next me during the flight. We couldn't communicate at all, but we could share our love for Tetris! Great Memory!
thank you man and that story is freaking incredible!
My favorite memory for the Gameboy is playing it in the suburban on road trips with the light boy attachment, while playing and beating Wario Land Super Mario Land 3 when I was 9.
That light boy was a game changer!
First memory. Playing Links Awakening off of an older cousins game boy and being incredibly lost in the first dungeon. Now I played through and beat the new Nintendo switch version and found it very easy by comparison.
haha games should be easier when we get older but thats not always the case for me
Just discovered this series and I have been loving it. My friend had a Gameboy and I had Sega Game Gear. You can imagine how proud I was to have colour screen.
Some of my best memories are playing my game boy pocket on road trips. Every time we hit the road our family dog (tiger) came with us. We had a suburban and my brothers and I would all sit in the back 3rd row playing our game boy. The middle row was folded down and the dog kennel was there on the right side. It happened every road trip to our grandparents that Tiger would throw up on the trip. This one particular time tiger threw up and it created a chain reaction. I was facing Tiger and I threw up on my pillow. My little brother next to me saw me throw up then my older brother next to him threw up. We were probably on the link cable because Pokémon was our thing. It was hilarious and my parents still crack up when we bring it up!
hahaha the chain throw up reaction is never a good one hahaha
My best memory of Gameboy is when i buy one for my little brother , a trasparent one with Super Mario Land 2 - 6 Golden Coins. His face was pretty joyful. 😊😊😊
My best memory was when I worked all summer for my grandma at her dry cleaners. At the end of the summer I had saved up enough and bought a Gameboy(original) and Mario land 2. I was so excited
heck ya you were...mario land 2 is so dang good!
When I was about 8 I went to goodwill and my dad said "woah look a game boy!" i got it for 5 dollars with super Mario land included. I played that for about 5 years until my mother got angry and threw it and it broke in pieces. I got rid of it on craigslist about a month later. I was heartbroken. Then a year passed and I got a game boy for Christmas! That was the best Christmas ever.
I had the original gameboy as a kid. I have lots of good memories playing Toy Story and Tetris. I would play nes or snes at home but always had the gameboy with me in the car. Good times!
haha i remember those days too!
My first memory of the gameboy is when the gameboy sp was a thing and there was this gba game that I love playing which is a yugioh card base game, and even to this day I still play since it has a special place in my heart
ha what a great memory!
My Favorite Memory Playing GB was, After Kinder Garden, And Old Lady was My Baby Sitter, Her Son Own the GB Color and I Used to Play Mario Land Every Day. Good Old Times...
nice! i love mario land...great game
I had so much fun playing Zelda: Links awakening, Mario Land 2 and Ninja turtles on the gameboy as a kid. Especially in the back seat of the car on road trips.
Gameboy on road trips was the best!
My first memory of the Gameboy was playing Tetris with my cousin. Possibly my best memories are going to daycare as a kid and trying tons of games from my friends. We use to always swap games for the weekends. Warioland and wave race were always my favorite.
My favorite memory was saving enough allowance to walk into my local KB Toys Store and purchase the original Mortal Kombat. Pure nostalgia.
Best memories of the Gameboy were getting it and several games on Christmas 1989, then playing Super Mario Land in the car on the way to my Grandma's house.
Best memory of the GB, I used to play the heck out of Looney Tunes. Each level featured a different character and I think it was the 4th or 5th level that was Porky Pig and I could never get past that level. I was addicted to trying to beat it and even though I never could, I still loved it.
You should give it another play through and freaking dominate Porky
my first memory of the game boy was 7 years ago when i walked into my local value village (still a collector at a young age :)) and they just brought out a gba with metroid prime fusion, super mario bros dx, tetris, 007 nightfire and lttp and they sold it all to me for 30 bucks. That was my birthday gift from my parents and to this day i still play the crap out of it. That was the best birthday ever. My best memory however, was easily when my parents got me pokemon cib for xmas and I spent my whole winter break on it.
dude thats a solid deal at a value village!
I remember getting my original Gameboy for my birthday when I was either 7 or 8, and one game: Super Mario Land 2. I played that thing so much!
heck ye...that is a great game too!
My first memory of a Gameboy was my dads gameboy. He didn't have a ton of games, mostly sports games like Jack Nicklaus golf and such, but was still cool to see.
Best memory that i have from Game Boy was definitely Burai Fighter. It took me almost an entire Christmas vacation to unlock all the difficulty levels. Also my parents and my grandparents were actually grateful because i wasn't messing around with them and i was playing beneath the Christmas tree right next to the window almost the entire holiday!
I have so many memories of the game boy, the game boy was my childhood, I took it everywhere. Many summer holidays on the campsite where spend playing the original DMG. This is the reason I’m a Game Boy (systems& games) collector now. One memory though was one summer on the street in front of my house I played Tetris multiplayer for the first time of my life with another game boy of a neighbor and OMG it was amazing. I still play Tetris multiplayer on the game boy to this day and it still holds up very well!
It really does...Tetris never gets old to me!
My brother got the Gameboy for Christmas one year, I was still too young for a console at the time. But I remember sneaking into his room and taking it to play Kirbys Dream Land, even though I wasn’t very good.
haha i love that!
First memory is playing bionic commando on the OG Gameboy with its green screen. Favorite memory is when my little cousin (15 years younger) would come over he’d always ask to play with it so one visit I just gave it to him, that 4 year olds face just beamed liked I’d given him the whole world.
1st GameBoy memory was walking into a Toys R Us where they had that giant GameBoy display kiosk were you could try Tetris. I still love the grey red/purple-ish color palette!
My first memory with the gameboy was getting the red gameboy pocket, exactly like the one you picked up in this video for Christmas. I was so excited. They bought me two games. Bomber man GB and Pac-Man. I played it all day and night. I always played my older brothers systems like the Nintendo and Super Nintendo, so it felt great to finally have my own system. So many great memories I had with it. I even bought the gameboy camera and took pictures everywhere I went and printed out my pictures.
My first memory of the original gameboy is when i had a friend in cub scouts let me play it throughout a camping trip. It rained the whole time and needless to say we got alot of use out of it that weekend.
haha i bet man!
This memory might be wrong since I was about four years old, but I remember when I went to the chiropractor’s office they had a bin full of toys and one of them happened to be a game boy which I absolutely loved. Soon after I stopped going to that chiropractor and I grew up playing the DS, but I still remember the amount of joy I had playing that first game boy.
I remember getting my first game boy color for Xmas at my grandparents house in Vegas when I was little. No idea what game I got with it, but I remember not being able to put it down on the car ride back home.
haha so many road trips for me with a gameboy involved...until my batteries ran out hahaha
First memories from GameBoy was in 1990 when I bought it with Tetris and Super Mario Land. I played like crazy for those games.
My best memory is playing Pokémon red on my gameboy pocket for 12 hours straight every time my family would drive from South Carolina to Indiana to visit relatives. I’ve beat that game at least 50 times!
its such a great game!
My first Gameboy was the original Black version. I actually found it recently at my parents house. I used to play a lot of Tetris and Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Footclan!
Fall of the footclan is so good! So cool that you still have your original!
I didn't have one growing up, but I would often lend a 64 game to a friend in exchange for his GBC with Wario Land II and R-Type DX, I have great fond memories of carrying it around and playing everywhere, became a huge fan of the Wario games since.
I didn't even know the Gameboy Existed until one summer we went on a family reunion trip. A cousin of mine had one with Tetris and Super Mario Land 2. We played it the whole trip as we were in a huge van all together.
Oh man my first memory of gameboy. I was at my cousins house they had got one for Christmas. I was soooo jealous. When I heard that start up sound. That loud pitch of "Ba Ding" and saw the scroll of the nintendo logo. I knew i had to have one. But unfortunately I didn't get one. Mom said "No. You have a regular Nintendo". 😆.
I never had a gameboy growing up. But I had fun memories looking at other kids playing it in school... This was before cells phones..
My memory of the Gameboy is playing Mission Impossible when my family was traveling to Canada.
Very cool..ive never played the GB game
I remember having a gameboy pocket edition that was see through, and I used to play pacman and tetris all the time on car trips and in my room. I love my gameboy!
I always wanted a clear see through game boy pocket!
$15 n64 controllers are unheard of here in Ontario at a store. You are so blessed to have stores like that
First memory is beating Super Mario Land so many times as a kid. Best memory is playing through Pokemon yellow on school field trips. Saving up rare candy and using them all at once was amazing.
My favorite memory was going with my Mom to visit relatives and I just sit and play
amazing memories, thanks for sharing!
Collection is looking good with a lot of quality titles. If you're looking to set new goals you could do something like, when the game collection fund hits a certain dollar amount, like 500, you spend 100 on something rare that you never see in the wild. It's always cool to see holy grail items added to a collection.
I remember my older brother coming home with the big grey game boy with tetris....and mortal kombat..... playing under my mothers table lamp at night because it was so addicting 😩 😫 lol this was early 1990s ....great times‼️‼️💪🏾💯🔥
YES! Dude i still love me some tetris...so addicting!
@@retrorick im a nerd and gamer still this day‼️ i have a huge container of retro video games in my closet 💯💪🏾
My best memories was playing tetris worlds and later on pokemon when it first came out. Those games are hours of fun.
First memory of the game boy was sleeping over at a friends house and staying up all Night playing Tetris under a lamp.
Ha i can totally relate my friend!
My first memory of the Gameboy is someone on a bus trip was playing one in the early 90’s and I had no idea what it was. My best memory is when my brother and I sold pies in a fundraiser to get a aqua Gameboy color. We loved that thing and we had all the attachments.
My first memory of the Game Boy actually came from the Game Boy Advance. I remember playing Super Mario World on it and thinking, "you'll never need anything better than SNES graphics on the go." Boy was I wrong!
