My favorite takeaways from this video:
#1 angle take off and add some extra paddle for speed
    #2 stay in pocket
#3 be light on your feet as if skipping so you can surf rail to rail and maintain rhythm and flow of the wave
#4 hopping your board up and down is ugly and inefficient in generating speed (maintain patience)
#5 surfing small waves is hard. surfing big waves is easy

Hopping your board is good. It looks good and it is efficient lmao. Say whatever you want if you hop the board forward and up

When i finally got out the idea that good surfing was done "only" in big waves I realized that small waves are extremely fun, not intimidating and leg burners! Small waves can also be punchy and strong. Either way they are great to get rythm and flow, along with surfskating they make a really good duo for fast progression. Thanks for the videos and for shearing your knowledge! Peace!

For small waves, skateboarding helped me immensly. This was before the ollie was invented, so I spent a lot of time just surfing the board (turning off the kicktail) down the sidewalk. Most people start off only surfing (on some sort of longboard) and never develop stance, rythm or turn technique. I see a lot of people that can read a wave, stand up and ride down the line, but they look like sloppy shit...especially when they try to turn.

Learn to balance with your breath before on a board. Surf closest to the shore first, and make the most of that, before you explore some more

And the way to stay in the pocket is to take off, immediately jump/lift to the top and turn to cut back in a fast row of movements? take off-lift-turn? (because in my case, pumping with rails ends pretty fast on small mushy waves, after 2 pumps the wave closes or dies).

Two things with this video, the waves really aren't that small, and the section about patience, I saw two sections worth doing a top turn or little air off of. Think if you come and surf Florida, you will see really good small wind swell surfing versus waist to shoulder high groundswell surfing.
