Hey guys Ryan here. Check out the new version here. ruclips.net/video/HV7LCScxqAY/видео.html
My favorite takeaways from this video:
#1 angle take off and add some extra paddle for speed
#2 stay in pocket
#3 be light on your feet as if skipping so you can surf rail to rail and maintain rhythm and flow of the wave
#4 hopping your board up and down is ugly and inefficient in generating speed (maintain patience)
#5 surfing small waves is hard. surfing big waves is easy
Hopping your board is good. It looks good and it is efficient lmao. Say whatever you want if you hop the board forward and up
i grew up surfing Florida as well. Different level of small-wave surfing!
you should come to Sydney lol. Florida is like pipeline compared to Sydney
Same dude!
Thank you! I am just learning and this has given me some great things to work on
Nice tips! It's also a good idea to get yourself a groveller style board, something super short a bit wider than usual.
Great tips! Thank you guys
Love the video!
Awesome vid !!
When i finally got out the idea that good surfing was done "only" in big waves I realized that small waves are extremely fun, not intimidating and leg burners! Small waves can also be punchy and strong. Either way they are great to get rythm and flow, along with surfskating they make a really good duo for fast progression. Thanks for the videos and for shearing your knowledge! Peace!
Thanks, helpful vid for fine tuning my small beachy surfing

@@botxai1341 ur observant, I just like it cause it goes with the S in my user name
For small waves, skateboarding helped me immensly. This was before the ollie was invented, so I spent a lot of time just surfing the board (turning off the kicktail) down the sidewalk. Most people start off only surfing (on some sort of longboard) and never develop stance, rythm or turn technique. I see a lot of people that can read a wave, stand up and ride down the line, but they look like sloppy shit...especially when they try to turn.
Great and useful vídeo bros
i am watching this video because i am going surfing soon and i love it so much thanks
This was a good video
Nice vid guys. You should link the first small wave vid via annotation link or something.
Learn to balance with your breath before on a board. Surf closest to the shore first, and make the most of that, before you explore some more
my roommate has taken me multiple times and lends me his foam fish. I've been trying to get up but i have no bars 😂. I'm paddling head on to shore though so I think you've just helped me a bunch. going to apply these tips this friday. thanks boys!
That is awesome, good luck
And the way to stay in the pocket is to take off, immediately jump/lift to the top and turn to cut back in a fast row of movements? take off-lift-turn? (because in my case, pumping with rails ends pretty fast on small mushy waves, after 2 pumps the wave closes or dies).
Great video, helped a lot. What beach is this?
THOSE ARE SMALL!?
dude they're midget haha
Lol right? 2-3 in Florida the smallest I can surf but I've seen dudes shred 1-2
If I had waves like that all year i would be stoked
Hella small lmao
@@Cleetus_Clay I’m pretty sure the guy means they look big to them
I've been checking out a few of their vids and spot on so far. I'm intermediate-ish to KOOK depending on the day LOL. Getting used to small wave surfing here in Brunei and this vid nails it all 👍.
I'm constantly going back and watching "how to" stuff to try and stop bad habits occurring.
Cheers guys 👍🌊🏄
Awesome news :) we’ve got a HUGE year planned next year for you :)
lol brunei...ive seen the wave. just get another hobby bro. lol
i go to galveston wish i got those waves
I could just listen to you talk all day lol
when you said "skipping" you meant do this in wave ?
5:00 You think using a Ripstick or waveboard, can be a good practice tool? The motion looks similar for generating speed.
Yes absolutely
can u mention time where he dived in the wave i saw that video in tumbnail short video pls give timing of that cool thing
I wouldn't recommend that Tejas, not the best idea in case of shallow water!
Been surfing for 5 years and I am about to start competing! Any tips for 2-4ft waves?
Kai Lee Longest board you can manage. Be stylish, don’t try to do too many tricky turns and radical moves. Learn to walk the board and subtly shift your weight to engineer turns. Good luck.
@@petermyers479 Thank you! I just got a longboard so I will definitely use this thank you!!
Good luck at your competitions!
If in doubt take the log out
Very nice
Skimboarders build tons of speedy by hopping the nose. It doesn't work on highly rockered boards.
Loki hopping helps tons !!!!!!!
Those boards look really good...can't do any of the above without the right equipment
Scott rock while some boards do help, remember that at the end of the day it’s just a plank of foam and fiberglass and it’s really all up to you
That's like saying a sports car is the same as a family sedan. On the race track. Ya i agree they both just wheels.
First, love the vids
What are you guys riding in this video?
Surfboards 🤓
Zack Shainsky boards and waves !!!!!
Two things with this video, the waves really aren't that small, and the section about patience, I saw two sections worth doing a top turn or little air off of. Think if you come and surf Florida, you will see really good small wind swell surfing versus waist to shoulder high groundswell surfing.
Alexander Zgura 1ft - 4 sec swell period.......yeah that’s a groundswell.
Dude these waves are small lol
I'm also from Florida and these are really small waves man... Anything under head high is definitely small haha
Okay Gabby
Baldheadedchimp rrrriiiiigggghhhhttttt. Those waves were easily 3-4’ @10+ seconds. There was wind on it but definitely not a windswell.
I do not know how to 🏄♂️
Small
ish
Yo I’m im in Delaware my wave are trash
What does "bowly" mean?
A steep section of a wave, the opposite of 'fat', which would refer to a flat part of a wave.
Where is the pocket exactly?
Close to the breaking part of the wave. Check out '4 Ways To Improve Your Small Wave Surfing'!
How to Rip Thanks
you mean the BRAZZO HOP mate?
Whats up with this loud ass music in the background
Nice
How to Rip damn. You got a whole arrange of other emails to like your comment lmao.
lmao im dead
Those sunnies are so impersonal.
These guys need to lose some weight or surf bigger boards
okay gabby
im 250 lbs 5'11.5 I have a bit of difficulty standing on/going from laying down to standing on weaker small waves Ive surfed only 4-5 waves so far in north Carolina
