- A tour of my hydroponic vegetable garden in Hilo, Hawaii is presented. Crops include lettuce, pak choi, watercress, tomatoes and cucumbers.
Plants were grown by non-circulating hydroponic methods and pumps, electricity and mechanical aeration devices were not used.

Beautiful lettuce, love the tomatoes and cucumbers as well!
Thanks Khang!
Ahola, Dr. Kratky. Always enjoy the info and the peak into your slice of paradise.
I'm so glad that Jeb told us about your channel!
Subscribed, and my wife and I look forward to seeing everything you have to offer!
Ahola, Dr. Kratky. a big thank you for your excellent info wish you all the best and a very happy 2019 keep it going
Sir, I'd like to thank you for your methodology and videos . I've been using your a few months with great success!
Wow so many tomatoes. Thanks so much for sharing!!!
Wonderful to see your garden, I enjoyed every minute of it. The Beit Alpha Persian cucumber is one of my favorites, and the abundance of cucumbers is amazing. I like to cut the tips off the vines and put them into new non-circulating tanks. It usually takes around 3 weeks for the cuttings to start producing a new crop. So many crops do well in the non-circulating hydroponic method. Thank you for sharing your research with me. Mahalo
Thanks Matt. That is a great suggestion - I will try it out. Have you produced a youtube on starting cucumbers from tip cuttings. If so, please provide a link.
While I have some pictures, I have not done a video on this yet. Here are two links from my first experiment.

Thank you, Matt, for sharing that information!
Thank you for this well-explained system. I have been growing lettuce, herbs, and green leafies in my dining room in tower gardens for 2.5 years. I'm tired of the noise and have been looking for a new solution. Thank you. I will experiment with your method. Tomatoes and peppers don't like the cool indoor weather too much, and I've had little success with them. But those greens love the springtime temps of my dining room garden.
great. I drew up a modified 'Kratky' method, with large reservoir, intermediary with float valve yesterday! and you already did this :-) brilliant love it.
Thank you. But, I hope you can improve on my system!
So relaxing and beautiful where you are :)
I enjoyed the video. Thank you for posting fellow kratky gardener!
It’s amazing how much faster plants grow in hydroponics
It must be great having a greenhouse in your back yard. Any drawbacks to that?
Large greenhouses can become pretty hot, but small greenhouses like my 18 x 20 ft structure with open ends and some side venting perform pretty well. A greenhouse in a rainy climate like Hilo is a big plus. We often refer to these structures as rainshelters, because they don't have any auxillary equipment like lights or fans.
I look forward to your cucumber video.... hopefully sooner than latter! ;)
must be wonderful to live in Hawaii :-) Betting you can grow all year around.
Hello so awesome thank you for video...
Beatiful!
the kratky method is truly revolutionary.
Never been able to keep my tomatoes from having thick skins. Any adjustments in nutrients or something? Can't stop the sun.
Greetings Mr. Kratky! Many thanks for your videos. We've been experimenting with your method on our channel. Any comments from you would be invaluable.
Aloha! from Philippines :)
Mr Kratky,
Where do you find those trays which you grow in? Also, the flow valve sump assembly can be purchased where? I have never seen those.
Do you happen to have a link or some info on them? Keep up with the great videos! Thanks!
The tray manufacturer is Iris USA, Pleasant Prairie, WI. It is called a 'Stor-it-all Trunk Tray. I think Iris is headquartered in Japan. The Miller 'Little Giant Trough-O-Matic TM825' float valves are commonly stocked by feed stores.
No need to air bump?
Great ideas, thanks for your sharing, one question, where can i get those black long Mesh Net Pot, that you show in 6.06 min ?, thanks in advance.
They were obtained from Stuewe and Son of Oregon. I don't recall if they were just samples or if they regularly stock them.
Thanks, Pioneer Pots, good luck.
A very beautiful winter crop you have going there. What's about the average temperature there? Currently we're having a few cold spells with the dry wind here in Southern California (Range between low 50s to mid 60s in the forecast for this week, with rain).
Could you clarify how many gallons of water is used per 4 oz of A-B concentrated nutrient solution?
About 8 gallons of water. We aim for 0.5 oz of both A and B per gal of growing solution.
Hi. Im getting a clear slime buildup on roots and in reservoir could you tell me if this needs treating and how to prevent it in future thanks.
Slime usually occurs on decomposing roots. Perhaps, you could refer this question to a plant pathologist at your local university. My apologies for not having a good answer to this inquiry.
Thats ok thanks for the reply.
Mike VanDuzee says Keep on Growin' ! (He sent me)
Is the coconut tree also using the kratky method?
No, it is growing in the soil.
is this all done with no areration
There was no mechanical aeration provided to these plants and no pumps or electricity was needed.
I posted a video using your methods I'd like you to view and tell me what you think!
Nice video Erica - I gave you a thumbs up! By the way, I tried growing in expanded polystyrene coolers, but some nutrient solution oozed out; this was remedied by lining the coolers with plastic trash bags. I'm just curious if any nutrient solution oozed out of your coolers.
Open video, immediately like :)
Is that a shade cloth of the bokchoy? And what % ?
I think you are referring to the 40% Aluminet shade screen. The sun gets pretty intense in that location and a shade screen is helpful plus it discourages the neighborhood cat from climbing on the bench and laying in the watercress!
dakineapproaches thanks for the info I love growing bokchoy but flower up all the time so going to get one.
A question when I grow hydroponic lettuces it’s soft not crunchy why is that ?
If you are in a location with warm night temperature, that could be a factor. You might also try several different varieties.
Those coconuts remind me of one thing....
You put the beer in the coconut and drink it all up
Rum. You put the rum in the coconut.
Can i grow kratky in heat?? If the water heats up doesnt it kill everything?
