Fantastic, another hot interview. Ripperton is a genius, the way he made the changes also in the back transmission will turn the kart more safe and more competitive. He maybe starting new category of eKart racing, like happened in F1 with the Formula E. Congratulations to both !
Flávio Buccianti yeaahh Ripperton is BACK and making some really fun and POWERful racing toys hahaa Very clever ideas, it’s great that he can race, CNC, build and constantly improve his own machines haha what a perfect COMBO!!! Yes we are all talking about having maybe 6 or more Electric Go Karts between our friends and start an Electric Go Kart Australian category with super POWAAAAAAAHHH
This is actually a serious engineering video. These guys really know their stuff! Totally exhilaration for the first test drive! Understandable when you are not sure if you snap an axle or just get a boom and blue smoke! (Tried both myself)
Hahahaha thaaaanks!!! Yeah this is Ripperton’s garage/workshop... he is a wild backyard scientist haha... have you seen his DIY electric Yamaha R1 with 1.8 million views video? ruclips.net/video/vdKDOfXBRMM/видео.html
Karolis Borkertas hahaaaa thaaaanks mate!!! Yeaahhh Danny is just finishing CAD drawings and machining the motor rotor, motor liquid cooling plates, motor mounts, front steering angles... soon we will be showing some updates and hopefully a demonstration showing in action too hahaa so much POWEEEEEERRR ohhhh yeaaahhh

John Hawley hahaaa thaaaaanks mate!!! Yeah, good be friends with Danny Ripperton, did you watch his 210kW Racing Electric Yamaha R1 vs Petrol Bikes (race track) ruclips.net/video/vdKDOfXBRMM/видео.html So much POWEEEEEERRR
Andy Lee Robinson yeaaaahhh... Danny is just finalising CNC the parts and putting parts together... we are also talking to Sketch who is currently finishing his “launch control” throttle with accelerometers, we are discussing about adding a steering sensor and cross all data with the G forces, sounds very promising hahaaa =]
Well, the rotation differential of the wheels should be fairly easy to derive from the steering column angle, and this should be independent of speed, so a slight power/velocity increase/decrease could be added/subtracted to each motor on a turn. Would only be significant for tight turns though.
Bruno, what do you think of the LTO batteries? Can you make a video about them? They’re very powerful, they can be recharged in 6 min and they have a very long cycle life (15.000 or more) . The kart with these cells can be rent in a circuit performing better than petrols ones and recharging between each race session with a long life time of battery
the rear axel thing youre missing a small bit of info when both if the wheels work at the same rate the car becomes very oversteery* in the slow corner but a faster corner it will understeer, when moving around the corner the outside wheel will travel further than the inside wheel so giving it dualmotors working at the same rate even though theyre not necessarily connected, will still cause this problem because they're working at the same rate, if you use a steering angle sensor to determing the amount of power to the left or the right wheel this would fix the problem, or you could use a g sensor to know when youre cornering. EDIT: so youre rely on the grip of the tyres causing more resistance, pretty cool.
Having two motors + a sttering angle sensor would also allow you to drift this thing like crazy if you implement it this way in software. Think about it! You could have different settings on it that would allow a multiplication factor for the value read from the steering angle. If one would crank it right up, it could (for example) give 50% power to one motor and 150% to the other which would probabbly make it spin right off! Or, just put one of the motors in regen mode an the other in full power!? Instant donuts? 😎😋
Yeaahhh we will be testing with just a single throttle and see if a small Go Kart behaves like his previous heavier electric car (we wouldn’t miss the chance to experiment like that first). We are talking to Sketch who is currently designing a “launch control” throttle with accelerometer and many other smarts (his throttle actually works and it’s pretty amazing). We are trying to figure out how to add a steering position sensor to the steering shaft + understand the G forces and cross these data and see the performance improvements we can get ohhh yeaahhh!!!
Ionut yeaahhh it’s sine wave but some sine wave controllers are quieter and more efficient than others. The best is the FOC (Field Oriented Control) they’re smaller, more powerful, quieter and more efficient compared to most sine wave controllers. Check out the Phase Runner www.ebikes.ca/shop/electric-bicycle-parts/controllers/c-phaserunner.html# So much POWEEEEEERRR =]
J Wightman hahaha yeaaahhh... they cost $$$$ this is why we normally don’t see BIG MAGNETS like that inside most motors. Now imagine it times 16 (8x per motor) hahaha so ridiculous... so much POWAAAAAAAHHH ohhh yeaahhh
Hahaaaa thaaaanks mate!! Yes, RUclips algorithm can be very strange sometimes... my other video showing Ripperton’s electric Yamaha R1 has 1.8 million views and this one only got a fraction and stopped... then I have some videos that only got a few thousand views initially and suddenly “get discovered” by the algorithm and go wild... never now... Ripperton’s go Kart is running, I just didn’t have time to go there and make a new video yet. I’ve been busy repairing 7 Teslas and making racing electric car batteries at work, check it out ruclips.net/video/m2XevzDU44A/видео.html
Yeah sure!! Let me know exactly where is the part where you’re struggling. It’s basically very simple, you just need to follow the motor controller wiring instructions, two wires (thick red and black) goes to the battery, 3 thick wires go to the motor, 5 motor sensor wires also connects to the motor and 3 wires to the throttle/accelerator. ON/OFF switch and may have a display depending on controller model. Let me know if that helped =]
Ola Bruno, This electric kart was monster! If you test on a kart track amid other karts with combustion engines I will love to see this video this amazing!!!
I love the way he tinkers with everything! The motors, cooling the magnets and the battery, brake with 3way splitter + sensor for regen, etc. A lot of cool ideas! Like other viwers commented already, I was also thinking at a steering angle sensor to take advantage of the dual motors, without a differential on the axle. This would be an 100% electrically assisted virtual diffeeential. Moreover it would behave as a difflock or LSD (limited slip diffeeential) when needed. 😎 I would put all this technology in an offroad vehicle. Man, that would kick so much ass!

hey Bruno I'm real big into rc. you should look into mgm 1/5 scale controllers. there biggest one can take 800 amps continuous. tppower motors they make a 100mm diameter by 300mm long motor brushless motor, it's supposed to make 100hp at peak
Hey mate, thaaanks for the good info... 800A RC controller/ESC??? WTFFFF I only know the 300A Swordfish one... have you seen my little 42kW RC trike, insane performance using 3 3220 AstroFlight RC motors and 3 Castle HV160 ESCs ruclips.net/video/sRH_cpCwNDs/видео.html so much POWEEEEEERRRR
Nice videos, Do you recommend a certain motor? I was looking at the ME1012 motor running at 96volts My lipos are 20ah 96 volts at 240amps countinius and 500 amps burts. I was going to use the kelly controller for it
njfulwider5 hahaaaa remember I told you I had some crazy POWEEEEEERRRRRR projects coming up hahahahaha this is just one of them... we are doubling everything here.. hopefully we get it running for the next video update... more POWAAAAAAAHHH hahaaaa =]
I like your channel when the Yamaha R1 converted into an electric motor. It's really cool. can you tell me the peak rpm and power on the electric motor on your go kart ? Thanks..
Yeaahhh the go kart is finished up and running I just need to organise a day to go with a Danny to a track and make a video showing the POWEEEEEERRR the Go kart ended up being 110kg 80hp dono tested 60kW peak power, 175v controllers 600amps, liquid cooled motors (not too sure the RPM he’s running) and 4kWh air cooled lipo battery.... This is a small kids size go kart, senior bigger go karts with Rotax engine are between 30-50hp max... imagine 80hp on this little one hahahaa Danny Ripperton is a mad scientist hahaa
I think this is pretty much an expert build, and if you are an expert then this basically was the tutorial showing and explaining what is needed and what is optional/possible. Also part 2 will no doubt have even more interesting details about the build.
OblioAndArrow hahahaa thaaaanks mate.. good news is that you’re on the right way already watching these “hacking” and “freak machines”videos with so much POWEEEEEERRR... Now you just need to start a project experimenting stuff too haha ohh yeaahhh =]
Awesome build! Does that thing go reverse? I'm designing a build of my own EV with independent AWD. Wonder if left and right side go opposite of each other and wheels were straight, would it pivot around like a tank?
Yes but since the axles aren't pointed at the pivot center there will be some slippage between the tires and ground. Relatively long vehicles will result in more tire scrub while wide vehicles will scrub less.
I love this video, where do you find a on and off cut off switch like that (165 volts 600amps)? for this do you need a contactor or can you just plug the battery to controller? maybe use a anti spark connector. What controller was that of KEllys?
Yeaaaahhh that red emergency switch is just cutting the 12v that powers the big contactor. Also when you see a switch rated for 250v it’s normally AC and half that for DC. Never just plug directly to the controller .. if something goes wrong you need to be able to pull something apart... even large Anderson connectors just something you can quickly disconnect. Anti spark connectors like XT90S are only good for low voltage up to 60v max... there are other bigger anti spark connectors out there for higher voltage but in EVs you never do pre-charge at the connector, you calculate a proper resistor for your voltage and how many seconds you want to pre-charge. Yeah Danny is old-school and loves his big Kelly controllers haha
@@BrunoPOWEEER ok thanks. ya im having a hard time finding the right contactor and switch for a electric off road minibike setup. im using turngy 20ah 6s lipos, 4 of them in series with a ME1012 motor. looking for a controller around 200amps continuous and 500 peak. do you rec other then kellys? everyone I talked to says go with Kelly. I guess really easy to setup? I might make a 30s pack with the cells danny used, instead of the turngys ( I don't like the 10awg power leads on them).
Yeah I have the exact same cells here, big blue 20Ah 6s bricks ruclips.net/video/4bG4qzuGiNs/видео.html the 10AWG wires aren’t too bad if you cut the connectors and keep the length as short as possible. Kelly controllers aren’t the most advanced or the best premium stuff but super easy to buy and setup... I’ve been using ASI BAC8000 controllers ruclips.net/video/aRzmNqAuEhQ/видео.html
so what if u use the tesla style motor design and put the drive axles of both end through the motor, this way u will eliminate ton of extra weight and moving parts and power transfer will be much more efficient!!!

If you really want to know what having 4 independently controlled wheels is like, look up the prodrive p2. That thing corned like it was on rails. I can only imagine what that car would be like if they put electric drive on all 4 wheels. I think you'd run out of tolerance for lateral G before it ran out of grip. :)
that was wrong 90.08hp if I didnt screw up my math again holy crap that's crotch rocket hp numbers with half of the weight of more wow this thing is ridiculous!!!

this thing is gonna be ridiculous?? so will it be 200 per motor times what voltage 168v x 200 35,600watts per side anybody wanna divide that by 746watts per hp let me know what kind of power he's expecting I am thinking 40hp but seems low!??

Thats not really a correct application of vehicle dynamics......... So the benefit of having the split axle at the rear would be to apply different power to each of the rear wheels. The best way to analyse this is to draw a fee body diagram from the top and map the forces, (he does his own maths, but he hasn't done it here yet). The forces are still inclined to push the kart forward with the split axle. Lifting the rear inside tyre does remove a lot of the push but it has a lot to do with the outside tyre which is outside the front track width and thus controls yaw. Another tendency with a solid rear axle is that the transfer of load is greatly effected, with a very stiff rear end on karts this has be greatly exploited. btw do not touch the caster angle!!!!!!!!!!!!
nelson phillips yeaahhh know exactly what you’re saying but we need to experiment it first, Danny tested on an electric car and it worked really well, now we have to see how it behaves on a much lighter Go Kart... Even if it doesn’t work we will come up with a different solution, maybe something connected to the steering wheel that balances both controllers output accordingly... we need to test both =]
don't get me wrong, splitting the rear axle isn't necessarily a bad idea. I just think the hypothesis presented may be null. ;-) Luv to see the results!
nelson phillips good news, Sketch is finalising his “launch control” throttle with accelerometers and a fancy highly tuneable software, we are talking about adding a steering sensor to the steering shaft + understand the G forces and cross all these data on the software, maybe more sensors but as per our initial conversations it sounds very promising... hahaaa ohhh yeaahhh =]

We sell these contactors at work, 350A continuous can handle 1000A burst no drama

so what if u use the tesla style motor design and put the drive axles of both end through the motor, this way u will eliminate ton of extra weight and moving parts and power transfer will be much more efficient!!!
Where is the part 2
Bro is that maroubra netball car park?
Yeaaaaahhhh... how did u recognise??? Are you my neighbour?? Hahahahahaha
@@BrunoPOWEEER yeah brah I'm on Fitzgerald Ave.

Where's part 2??
Ohhhh... sorry mate... this go Kart is ready and rolling but I moved 2.5 hours from Sydney so It’s just a matter of me going to see Ripperton and make a new video but we want to show some ACTION so need to organise it properly haha ohhh yeaahh

I like the ingenious Hulk Hogan 💚
Waitingfor part two and wiring diagram to fixed corner turn issue.
Great work
Would you be interested in selling a motor and controller setup?
so he has a SLI rig
about the kart. the rear wheel will still lift just look at fwd car racing, it has to do with the rigidity of the chassis and suspension.
Hope this electric go kart is ready for the hunter valley electric vehicle festival,so Ol mate can race my son in his modified power wheels!
If Chopper went to school, he'd be Danny.
You speak english but you sound Brazilian, or am I wrong?
ZetaRider yeaahhh you’re 100% right hahaha... I was made in Brazil from Italian ingredients and exported to Australia hahahaa =]

10 a C e bikes Jody Bennett II hahaha yeaaahh the numbers are craaaazy, so much POWEEEEEERRR in a little light Go Kart. These are Axial flux motors that produce a lot more torque than regular motors already and we are adding 16x BIG badass monster magnets to boost things even more hahahaa this is going to be so ridiculous =]
This man is crazy 😂
this thing is gonna be ridiculous?? so will it be 200 per motor times what voltage 168v x 200 35,600watts per side anybody wanna divide that by 746watts per hp let me know what kind of power he's expecting I am thinking 40hp but seems low!??
40hp electric isn't the same as 40hp gas engines tho. That electric stuff is instant POWA you know!
sweet

*we need to make a video showing you trying the new more powerful Sur-Ron =]
