Respect to GM for continuing to build v8s
But for how long
So is ford and dodge
GM will be all electric by 2035
@@Conner._.Anderson not really only a select and very few ford models are 8 cylinder.
@@trevaFtrev ya but there the best v8 vehicles. Especially the 5.2 voodoo
I don't care about MPG. This is the type of SUV that would give smiles per the gallon.
Also, that 4.4/4.5 second 0-60 could be in the shorter wheelbase. Either way, a pulley swap and tune could turn these into AWD spinning animals! Honestly, I think vehicles as a whole are getting VERY expensive! That being said, IF I had the cash to blow... I'd get the short wheel base version in a heartbeat. Perfect for family highway cruising and hurting the feelings of unsuspecting victims.
So now they should drop this in a ZR2 Silverado and beef up the suspension some more and make a TRX and Raptor R competitor
I still don’t understand why GM wouldn’t put this motor inside a Silverado or Sierra for a TRX or raptor competitor. Honestly they would sell like hotcakes imo.
Either it is because of the bean counters at GM or it makes to much sense:)
Because the company is behind and will always behind cause of the leadership…look no further than who is the CEO and you have your answer.
Because gm focuses on undesirable cars.
They will but too expensive to sell like hot cakes. The TRX nor the Raptor sell in big numbers.
Because they are not the cool kids in class like ram and ford that’s why 😂
Good morning everyone
It’s 3:51am as I’m watching this
Good morning
I drove the 2021 for a week & that truck is just awesome! It gets up quickly & definitely has a grumble when you accelerate. This 2023 is completely insane!!🔥🔥🔥
The speaker/stereo system also enhances conversation between those sitting in the front and those in the back.. Once opening up that exhaust a bit, that'll really come in handy. Lol
This still begs the question why ford stopped putting the v8 in their SUVs I'm imagining a coyote expedition or navigator with a super charger to rival this beast if only but a dream
12 yards long, 2 lanes wide, 65 tons of American Pride!
Love that exhaust note!
I find it hilarious that all these super trucks like the Ram TRX and this started development a couple years ago when gas was dirt cheap and get released just in time for gas to cost an arm and a leg. That being said, the target market for these vehicles probably isn't too worried about fuel price.
Then you have to think how proitable for the manufacturer are these niche vehicles?
@@robertryan7204 Considering that no one paying $150k for an SUV gives a damn about gas mileage, I'd say they likely have a massive profit margin.
I'm still not a fan of self-driving cars or having cameras in the car staring right at you, but Super Cruise really is fascinating. The fact that it can initiate and execute a lane change all on its own is really impressive. If I were driving with Super Cruise, while most of me would probably be a little uncomfortable, like Andre here, there would be a part of me that was in awe. My question is, is the sensor just looking to see if you're facing the windshield, or is it actually checking your eyes? Could you face the road, but close your eyes, both with and without sunglasses, and have the system recognize it as not paying attention?
It watches both your eyes and head position. Have had it on 2 CT6’s. It has never done anything alarming in about 25,000 miles of using it. It does take some getting used to, especially what to do with your hands. I do arrive less fatigued after a long trip after using it. It is especially nice if there is a delay due to an accident or construction when traffic accordions. You just sit there and the car follows the car in front creep, stop and steer, no intervention required.
Why GM didn't give this engine to the zr2 truck
This is a very affordable vehicle .. For Tom Brady and his family...
i think im gonna pick up 2
Not made to be affordable lmao
If I had $153k for an SUV I'd definitely have one in my garage! Great job on this video!
The 4.5 0-60 is on the shorter model not the suburban style length. My guess is at least 600 lbs lighter or more on the normal length.
I'm glad GM has the balls to do this while they still can.
Do you mean before they go bankrupt again?
With the way things are going it will cost more to fill the tank than to buy it. $8 a gallon gas when it gets to that will be brutal.
gm is entering a recession with all their chips on over priced cadillacs and hummers…i feel like I’ve seen this somewhere before.
Dodge has been doing this for a while
That's a proper exhaust for a stock vehicle
Looking forward to that test next year with this, the Navigator RS with the GT500 drivetrain and the Grand Wagoneer RT with the TRX drivetrain.
They need to bring back the Silverado SS. Put this engine in there.
Just in time for $6.00 a gallon gas!
At least we don't have mean tweets! /S
If you can afford $150k starting price you can gas at any price.
If they can finance it like a house I’m all in! Lol
A toilet and bed would qualify it as an RV
@@TSi99999 😂 maybe that’ll help justify the price a little
There goes $20 on that single 4 second full throttle run 😂
I would wager our AZ heat may be partly to blame for a bit slower....
I would take that in a Tahoe sized SUV
Escalade is a glorified Tahoe.
@@rustynail7866 Who told you that? lol
Comes in short wheelbase model aswell
@@12mojokojo Uh…GM.
Tahoe Yukon and Escalade are all the same size in short or long wheel base.
It’s crazy that one of these sold for 500k at Barrett Jackson
Perfect for the NBA market. For those who live with the reality of regular incomes, not so much.
Well obviously it’s not targeted at people who make regular incomes
1% of income earners would be able to afford this. In a country of 340 million people even taking away the non working portion, that's still a lot of folks who can afford things like this. Also they likely will only make a few hundred of these each year is my guess.
The front end bouncing at 12:18 after the hard stop seems a little excessive for a truck that brags about its magnetic ride control.
Maybe but it's the long wheelbase at over 6,000 lbs. and tuned for a luxury ride. We also don't know what mode he had it in.
I say that too, and was wondering about the ride control system not functioning....bounce, bounce, bounce....bounce some more... Scheesh, like a boat in the marina.
@@pto44 I'm surprised it has ANY mode that allows 4 bounces from a hard stop.
@@jimm7165 my 2016 ESV with magnetic ride control does it too.
@@pto44 That seems odd. My Expedition with 170kmi doesn't
So it'll take up to $240-$280 to fill up...in certain areas of California...yikes.
Wasn't it over 100 degrees during that press testing? Might be your answer to the 0-60 time.
Another worthwhile review. Thumbs up! A couple questions, about the 4W Low and 2 speed transfer case. If I remember correctly the Escalade Sport Platinum with the 6.2 liter included 4L with the 2 speed transfer case if you added the max towing package; and that also meant you could raise the vehicle not just +1" extra, but +2" extra. Is that not the case with this V series? And regardless of that answer, in regards to that 4W Low option on the 6.2 liter Escalade, if I do not anticipate rock crawling, just occasionally going onto dirt roads or paths to get to a camping or fishing destination, but more often maybe needing to get out of some deep snow in winter ski country, do you think adding that extra 4W Low with the 2 speed transfer case and being able to raise the vehicle up that 2nd additional inch is worth it or necessary? Thanks.
Additional related thought: I like the idea of having that extra second inch available if needed, however infrequently, but then I also recollect hearing that once you shift out of 4W Low you cannot access that extra inch any longer, so only at slower speeds anyway. I think I remember anyway that even that first additional inch, in say 4W High, once you get up to 40 mph or so, certainly by the time you get to highway speeds, the vehicle automatically lowers back down so you can't even keep the vehicle raised the one extra inch if you are in a snow storm at higher speeds on secondary roads or on highways. That bummed me out a bit, for I love the Escalade for so many other reasons.
I love it. But a bit out of my price range and honestly, a touch too fancy for me. I’d rather have that power train in a Tahoe with less luxury and more sport, for a lesser price.
I think 7k towing is plenty for most.
I’d also like the option of rear drive only.
But I think GM knocked it out of the park!
100% agree. I think they would have sold a lot more too if they would have put it in the Tahoe/Yukon. Doubt it will happen now if it was ever idea because of the current gas crisis and what not.
@@MrBIGJAM88 GM would never put a 6.2 in a base tahoe or suburban, which they should, never mind this motor
The vehicle is great but for 153k, that’s kind of a lot and slow. I understand it’s a heavier and bigger vehicle. Well I think they should put that motor in the ZR2, great review Andre.
153k is similar to the $153 dollars to fill the tank!
Durango hellcat?
It seriously blows my mind how dumb and slow GM has been about making a truck like this. Lets put a Supercharger in the new Cadi but forgo any of the off-road trucks that could directly compete with Raptor and TRX… it makes 0 sense.
They waited till a dealer and gas gouge to release it too.
When the Hummer was first shown as a concept , any hope of such truck wasn't going to happen. If the Chevy Beast is allowed for production then GM might use this engine.
Well not much will “compete” w/ this Escalade
Disagree. Off roading doesn’t require a lot of power. But I could sure go for some power with my luxury.
Now if they wanted to make a true street truck with zany horsepower, I’m all in
This power plant should have been in the ZR2. GM is the worst
I would definitely choose the Cadillac if money was no issue.
Price of Gas is at an all time high.
Cadillac: So you want 700hp 4 ton SUV that gets 9 mpg?
People with money: yup. Make them poors jealous 😂
2:08 You guys its a TVS roots type supercharger which GM has been using for 15+ years and stands for Twin Vortices Supercharger. Its not "Twin Screw" like the Hellcat/ Redeye.
Picking mine up tomorrow w a 50k “market adjustment” but whatever i want it
Awesome, 👊😁👍🇺🇲
The everything.
its not broken in yet ! just give it another 250,000 miles
yup.... you are correct. I have a 2005 Chevy van with the 6.0 it has 450,567 miles it. never been apart. runs excellent.
@@alaskarailroad3996 gotta luv it ! even my 94 S10 4 popper has 641,000 ! original unrebuilt engine - trans - rear axle ! just getting a lil rusty !
Far better than the EV videos you guys have been doing
Facts
I pretty sure you can get it to 4s just keep doing it and especially if you had the smaller wheel base it could hit 3.9 🤷. Try both versions and also try on the drag strip👍
Lol 3.9…. Maybe with a fully built motor
Man, it is a sweet machine but sure hate to go to Costco fill up everyday.
Hello from AZ. 115 degree weather welcomes you. 😅
Interesting tow figure. Didn’t the SRT Hellcat Durango have a higher rating? 7k is still decent but I would have expected something like this to be rated more like 8500-9k.
Durango is a bit lighter.
@@186bingo and a unibody, so being both those things you'd think it's towing capacity would have been lower than this Escalade.
yep 8700lbs
That V8 sounds amazing 😀
Wow, crazy! Also, to think it won't be mechanically totaled in 10 years like the AMG or M SUVs due to major component failures.
How long does it take from Scottsdale to Phoenix?
Incredibly quick, in the early 90's exotic sports cars couldn't match this 3 ton SUV a acceleration time .
If they had put that motor in the new ZR2 pick up they would have had something
Who knows...that maybe next. First we got the Trail Boss, then we got the ZR2, and next maybe....some supercharged baja runner of some sort. They are using the same mentality with the Corvette...so we shall see.
I remember the days GM would drop a corvette engine into their pickups...
ss comback?
Probably not the best timing for it's release considering gas is $6 a gallon and climbing.
Only poors would care
I doubt the people who buy this vehicle care about gas prices 😂
You can take off faster just by not break torquing and do this instead, take your foot off the break and give it an initial 1/3 throttle and keep ongoing down to full throttle!
It is my dream SUV😍
13.0 MPG times a 24 or 28 gallon tank is really crappy range.
12:34 John Travolta shows up Staying Alive! 😂
It's lighter than the TRX and has supposedly similar performance, but it uses a whole second longer to 60? Curious.
I want it NOW!!!!
It would have been my dream SUV if I had not just watched Samcrac auction escalade
Best thing GM has released in years, it's about time they make a big HP SUV/truck...I was starting to get worried, thinking I was going to have to switch from a GM fanboy to dodge or ford. dodged a bullet on that one!!! lol
That engine/exhaust note…
Be glad when that filters down too the trail boss. I will order the first one.
I love this car! You guys do a great job! This is my dream car!!,
I'm buying one . Go BIG or Stay HOME. Awsome. Thanks NESRA.😉
Temperature will effect performance.
File under rich man’s toys I’ll never be able to afford! In my state the sales tax would be $9100.00 in addition.
Very nice and also too expensive.
New 2022 Tahoes now cost the same as a new Escalade did in 2019. Crazy.
@@Christoph-sd3zi I know The economic bubble burst hard and we are feeling it bad.
Everybody complaining about the high price but they forget that Cadillac has always been a “luxury” brand that is often very expensive. You can even price a regular Escalade at 120k with all the options. And even if it was cheaper, would they buy it anyway? No.
150k + for any truck based Domestically made vehicle is absurd but it's the market amd technology pushing this wave. Hopefully when this impending recession hits it will knock back down some of these insane prices and over MSRPs dealers are raping people with but I doubt it bc home ownership is optionable but car or truck ownership is non negotiable, you've got to have one.
The reason it’s not quicker is Gm’s torque management, you can hear it in nearly every launch and every full throttle shift on just about every video about it. I’d love if I had $150k to throw down on the SWB Escalade V, it would get a pulley kit, and tune to take off GM’s horrible torque management. I’m currently saving up to turbo my 07’ Tahoe. I’ve already beefed up the trans for it, just need the turbo probably won’t be as fast as this, but will still be quick for a 3 ton vehicle. I actually had it tuned until gas prices went through the darn roof, had my tuner revert it back to factory and save my tune for later as it needed 91+ octane gas or it would ping on the highway, but I got better mpg with the tune, but not enough to offset the extra cost per gallon of premium.
The plastic bin size intake should be signed by Razor Ramon, San Jose Guadalupe.
It might not be the hero we needed, but it is definitely the hero we wanted!
Do you factor in roll out for your 0-60 testing?
I know that accounts for about .3 seconds of time.
Another factor that might slightly affect acceleration is the 1200 ft elevation in Scottsdale.
also the 100 plus degree heat that other reviewers that day mentioned
If Cadillac put this escalate on the other side of power (i.e smth fwd hybrid with dedicated electric motor for rear wheel)
Would people interested with 36mpg+ Escalade?
The Dilssass's who told you the Mercedes Metris was/is a "Modern" mInivan with the NON=Foldable 120lb 3 row rear seat. Want to break your back? Listen to the Schillers at FLT.
Makes me respect the TRX even more, how that thing manages mid 4 second 0-60 times over and over is insane. This Caddy is fast but GM needs to step it up
This SUV worth every penny.. It's simply the best and it worth having 👌👍🏿💯
Would like to see this drag the new Range Rover....
Literally no one has been asking for this. But you know what they are asking for? This engine in a pickup.
I saw this truck at the Detroit Bel Isles race!!! On Saturday at the end of the day 4 trucks and a group of Cadillacs we're racing around the track (owner/group ride).....and it was AWESOME!!!!! The sound it makes was unbelievable!!!! GM knows how to make a SUV!!! Now how can I get that engine into my Hummer H2????!!!!!
Build an LSA!
unbelievable? have you heard a zl1, z06 or zr1.... we been hearing this for close to a decade
The Trackhawk came out in 2018 and they’ve already stopped production and the hellcat engine will stop being produced in 2023 across the entire line. GM is a little late for this.
i doubt they’d care since these will be priced over 150k and probably have a different target audience. it’s the ultimate american status symbol over the hellcat powered SUVS now.
Timing to come out could have been better. I bet the Caddy lovers won't be dashing to the dealers with the current fuel prices.
If a person can pay cash for this , they could care less about the cost of gas per gallon. Can’t put a price tag on a good time. Smiles per gallon!
It's the ultimate Escalade. It's not supposed to be sensible. It's not supposed to be affordable. It's not supposed to retain it's value after 10 years. It's just a halo vehicle for the brand. Don't overthink it.
Why do gm 6.2 with the 10 speed kinda stall in 4th gear
Something I'd be interested to see you guys experiment with: with the auto-cruise working, what happens if the guy in front slams on his brakes?
Also, congratulations to Andre on a new word: "giggleworthy" should catch-on really quickly. An Escalade maybe isn't the first vehicle I think of as giggleworthy but I'm sure there are plenty of vehicles that fit the bill perfectly.😁👍
My 2022 Murano has the emergency automatic breaking both front and rear. I would assume the sensors on the front of that things would immediately detect it and overtake the brakes.
@@605gritfitness9 It would be interesting, if maybe slightly dangerous, to put it to the test.😁👍
The Supercruise won't let you follow too closely to have a sudden emergency "slam on the brakes" event. It reads the road continuously and maintains a minimum calculated following distance in which it knows it can stop safely. Gm would up for lawsuits if it didn't. My wife's 2022 explorer as the "intelligent" adaptive cruise with stop and go, and I have driven 300km without touching the brake or gas. Stops and starts when the vehicle you are following does, and maintains the 2 second minimum. It was scary at first to trust the vehicle to stop, its aggressive compared to how I stop(has to do with the way the vehicle ahead of you stops). I've used the Mazda radar cruise lots and it works similarly.
The exhaust looks really busy under the main cabin before the axle
This thing is definitely pretty sick!! Idk if I would say bonkers. The intake from the charger is hella short and sharp wow.
Bruh
I will bring you my stock hellcat durango for you to test it against
Hold up, is that actually a twin screw supercharger? or just another version of the TVS? I didn't think Eaton made an actual twin screw
It's is a larger Eaton TVS.
@@allanb3222 yeah thats what I thought
It's the same blower used on the Lt5 in the C7 ZR1
Wrong mode ? What about if you were racing for pink slips?
I wish it was a pickup version lol or put that engine in the Silverado ZR2
You just need to mortgage your home to buy it, then put a 2nd mortgage on your home to pay for the gas. I am a car enthusiast but something like this is simply a waste of a performance engine.
Another example of a legacy car company being tine deaf of where the market is headed. If they wanted to bring the supercharged version to market, it should have happened 10 years ago. Today they should have been offering a hybrid as the high power offering.
Hybrids a and electricity aren't new either and are very boring even if faster but I do think you are right about how behind they always are
Talk about being tone/time death in where the market is heading and then suggesting a Escalade hybrid. What a joke. So many CEOs on RUclips that know better than the manufacturers. 🤡 😂
@@mybro727 In lieu of writing a business plan for GM, I tried to make my answer short. Knowing GM is behind the curve on electrics by at least 5 years, I knew I couldn’t suggest that they should have launched a full electric Suburban / Escalade. My point about making a hybrid is that they SHOULD have already been at the point of offering a hybrid for the full sized trucks and SUV’s, perhaps even a diesel hybrid for serious power and fuel economy. But instead, they just kept doing what they’ve been doing for decades, and then show off some ridiculous overweight inefficient full electric with the Hummer and their fully stupid Silverado electric with the drop-down mid-gate which didn’t survive the first time they offered it. To suggest GM knows what they’re doing more than me or anyone else with even a modicum of manufacturing, product development and marketing knowledge, all it takes is seeing what they have on the market today.
@@JMacGyver1 By what standard is the Hummer EV overweight? Name a GMC Hummer EV direct competitor with the same capability but weighs substantially less? Lol. Oh wait, there aren’t any direct competitors to the Hummer EV are there? What makes the Hummer “overweight”? What are the weight requirements in your state? Imagine the manufacturer that developed the world’s first fully electric SuperTruck and brought it to market before anyone else being “behind the curve on electrics”. That doesn’t even make sense.
The GMC Hummer EV is already in production, on roads, and in the hands of many customers. That’s certainly more than I could say about the folks who ordered the inferior Ford Lightning or a Tesla Cybertruck. Lol.
Cadillac already offers one of best turbocharged diesel engines on the market to Escalade customers. It makes the same 460 torque number as the 6.2L V8. They’ve covered that base already. The Cadillac Escalade EV is already in development so Cadillac is a several steps ahead of you, John. What’s so stupid about the Silverado EV’s mid-gate again? The fact that nobody else can offer it? The fact it leads the Ford Lightning in practically every measurable aspect? You’re a clown 🤡😂
@@mybro727 Overweight as in they need 200+ kilowatt hours worth of batteries, which adds significant weight, to power a vehicle that doesn’t even get great range, because of course the truck weighs too much. I’m not sure why you’re asking me what competitors there are to the Hummer - no one is going to make a joke of truck like the Hummer, except GM. And as far as a 9,000 lb vehicle and weight requirements in my state, no state has had to think about licensing for such a vehicle, because it’s never been an issue until now. The Hummer is barely on sale - I’ve seen exactly zero of them and the fact that we’re not seeing tons of reviews on RUclips on the Hummer is because they’re not in the market yet.
I agree that the GM inline 6 diesel seems to be a great engine - I’m a diesel owner and won’t trade my truck until electrics offer greater range, given I love the 750 miles I can go on a tank. The mid-gate - it was a stupid and bad design when they launched it and it didn’t survive for the same reason that this new version won’t survive. No one wants or uses it. If you need a truck to carry longer items, you’re not going want those items inside your cab, like when it’s snowing or raining or 20 below zero.
I heard brake torque on gm trucks makes them launch slower
If I had the money ooh yeah I'd have one , my wife would absolutely love it.
Sheeeesh a Escalade with an ZL1 engine package

I took my father-in-law’s brand new 2021 Escalade to road-trip from Dallas to Colorado Springs and back last year and most of the buttons in it didn’t work. Seat warmers never worked, steering wheel warmers never worked, suspension on highway sweeping curves felt confused. Good looking truck, but poorly put together. I was disappointed.
Give me a monochromatic paint scheme 2 door tahoe with this engine
I askef a friend about the Escalade years back when they had 6 on the lot and he said every Escalade that arrives on the lot is presold. I bet that still rings true
Yeah they had a Escalade ordering party here and it took about a year. If this is like the Corvettes they not making that many per year plus mark up.
