I'm a parts driver for Carquest in California and that was awesome when you mentioned that there's a Carquest right next to you. Thank you for your very informative videos. 👍
I understand the rationale in dealing with CarQuest, my only issue with using the small jugs is the issue of waste (especially because you can’t recycle containers that have had motor oil in them). It’s just an unfortunate issue with the way certain items/consumables are bought and sold; if I had any say people that had a desire to could bring a reusable container made of metal or much thicker plastic where you could swap it out with a full one (kinda like how propane tanks are sold by BlueRhino). That way there wouldn’t be as much waste.
Thankyou Wizard for pointing out that installing a dry filter will not hurt anything at all. Even after draining, the engine is still full of oil, coating all the metal parts. That residual oil protects everything just fine for the few seconds it takes to fill the filter. Indeed, on most engines you could drain the oil and then run the engine for minutes before the residual oil started wearing off and damage started occurring. And as said, if dry filters really were a danger to the engine, all engines would have the oil filter oriented in such a way as to allow filling and installing without spilling the oil. On my current cars the filter is oriented horizontally, and on my old 4.0L Jeep it was upside-down, so no hope of filling with oil before installing.
13 quarts thats alot you are awesome 👌 i love that when you are under the car you check everything that is what separates you from the quick lube places. I wish more people would see that
As for the pre-fill dilemma, simply turn the car on its side...et voila!!! Apply the cartridge, fill the can, screw it on and done. Tip the car back on its wheels and tow it to the body shop to finish the oil change.
Don't listen to the naysayers. You are beyond reasonable with your prices and a dam good/honest mechanic as well. Keep doing you Wizard. Love your channel man.
Regrettably, although it is a nice thing, the modern Bentley just IS a Volkswagen for the most part. They died when VW bought them back in 1998. I had hopes VW would just give them financial security and respect the history of what they had bought, but they failed to do that. Bentley now are half coach-built delight, half VW parts bin, and I don't think it's ever going to be any better than that now.
Wizard you are awesome. I like your service charge logic. People are unaware of the work and technical knowledge it takes to service vehicles in general.
i just priced out oil and filter for this Bentley just to compare since i was curious, granted i use Amsoil instead of Mobil, but for referance, for just oil and filter, would be approx $184 just in oil and filter, i'd consider wizard's pricing cheap for what you're getting
The cost savings of E85 (which has evaporated along with the U.S. economy the last few weeks) is negligible, considering the efficiency of e85 is at least 20-30% less efficient than regular gas.
Hey Wizard. Big thanks from fan in Poland. I’m here from episode one and before thanks to Hoovie and to him by Doug. Best of all to all of you and your families!
Interesting to see that the power output is scaling pretty much linear. One of those VR6 makes about 250hp naturally aspirated (at least the one in my 2004 Audi A3 3.2 does, the ones in the R32 Golfs may have had different specs) and the two bolted together here result in 630hp, but they aren't naturally aspirated. I would have expected more loss of efficiency from the setup. Or maybe I'm underestimating the increase in power forced induction on a >6l 12 cylinder should produce?
@@TheBigOne0305 if i recall well, the w12 in the A8 from those years puts out 450 hp. add some forced induction, and you have... whatever you want) it's pretty logical that if you add some more cylinders with corresponding displacement increase, you get that much power, it's the fuel economy that suffers, because friction and shit.
The Aston Martin V12 is just 2 Ford Taurus engines (Duratec 30) stuck together with some Cosworth magic breathed into them. The early ones were in the 400 HP range, roughly double a Taurus as well. The Gallardo's V10 is 2 inline 5s from a base model Jetta, again with a little extra work done.
This is a dumb analogy, as you could literally say any engine is just a smaller engine doubled. Doesn't mean shit if it's not engineered properly. It's a silly reductionist argument. Well a Bugatti is just 4 Jetta engines, I'm pretty sure there is a little more to it than some piece of shit Jetta motor times four.
Yeah people forget this when they buy a vw or merc, bmw used that be prepared to pay alot for parts and labour because they are designed to be hard to fix for regular joe.....

Car manufacturers specifically recommend against any additives. Project Farm has also demonstrated that the additive package in modern oil is much better than that in STP.
That multitude of little Oil packs make for a lot of packaging waste. That's why we don't like to use them even if the price difference is not a big deal
BMW charges me $170 for an oil change on my 2015 650i Gran Coupe Xdrive. My motor is known to burn oil though even though my car has low mileage (37000). Gotta know what you’re getting into when buying a car like that.
Yea it basically tells the car that it’s going to be lifted off the ground. That mode prevents the suspension from trying to self level itself, which prevents damage to the system
There's a really good book, "The Toyota Way" by Jeffrey Liker that delves into the origins of how Toyota do things. Some of it's barely believable, the lengths they'll go to to get suppliers working well. The other thing one realises from reading the book is that it's all very meta at Toyota. Their secret isn't just that they know how to do JIT or Quality properly. It's not just that they know how to train people to do them properly. It's not really even that they know how to train those trainers. But it is the next training level up from that. That, plus they'll take their own sweet time making their minds up over new stuff. We're seeing some of that play out right now. Toyota used to be an investor in Tesla, but got fed up of Musk and walked away. A fair question now is, "Where is Toyota's electric vehicle?". Well, it's on its way, and they've been working very hard on solid state lithium ion battery electrolytes. The result (according to their press release) is 5 minute charging time, deep cycle (so more energy), no wear life problems, full regen braking energy recovery (because the battery can absorb it all). This will be coming to Toyotas near us all in a couple of years or so. This will make electric cars "normal"; normal to refill (no need to wait around for 30 minutes), normal expectations as to how long big bits of the car will last (so good resale value), more efficient than other electric cars, and more range. Oh, and they'll likely never, ever break down and cost half the price. If they're not very careful, Tesla are going to be stuck making cars with The Wrong Battery Technology.
Fair point. I buy the 5 liter cans (cheaper due to volume discount) but I always poor some into an old 1l can when topping up because the 5l cans are heavy, difficult to manouver and will spill all over the place
Wizard says that he buys on time next door, I don't know why he doesn't get two of the 5 liter ones and a couple small to top off. Would be faster and less work as well.
Can see from "the old days" when most oil filters where fitted hanging down that's why they used too advise filling with oil first so as not to possible get air locks, but now days no need as you said Wizard. A lot of plant and earth movers/tractors still have down hanging oil filters, some of the fitters at our place still fill with oil before fitting.
Any Subaru without the plastic under tray or '99-'07 Chevy trucks/SUVs. Both can be changed in a parking lot without even needing a jack, filters are super easy to get to, and the oil drain is right near the oil filter.
Do you have to reverse the jacking up service set up? I seriously cant believe people would not see the cost of that oil change. I actually would have thought more. Nice vid.
David, looking at that Bentley W12 engine bay, correct me if i wrong but i would think to do a major repair job on that engine would mean taking it out, because i see very room around the engine, it did look like the beauty cover was still in place. Many people doing their own oil change over tighten the sump plug probably myself included, they do not need to be over tight, it damages the threads the sump plug goes into.
The underside of that Bentley, especially the front suspension, reminds me of a 2000 VW passat B5 1.9 TDI that I owned a while back. Which leads to the idea that the entire drivetrain from the Bentley would fit in a B5 saloon, what a traffic lights sleeper!
I can tell it's a VW/Audi car mechanically. Same 36mm oil filter bolt, 19mm sump bolt and about 11 X T25/T30 torx on the belly plate. Even a humble Golf or Audi A3 has similar. 😁
@@Crazywaffle5150 But as said, the quickie lube places won't be using the high-quality oil, they'll be using the cheap bulk stuff. And can you even be certain it'll be the correct weight?
The 2010/11 CGT Supersports is one of my favorite Bentley's next to the GT3-R. I'm more of a fan of the interior that has only 2 seats and the rear seat delete with the carbon fiber bar going across from pillar to pillar.
GOOD explanation as to why you don't use the 5 quart containers of oil, I was wondering that exact thing when you started to explain it. This is what makes your channel great- A chance to see what repair shops are up against and have to deal with.
Only because he gets them as cheap as a bulkier buy, which is very surprising. It clearly takes him longer faffing with those little bottles too. I get 20 litre cans for about 1/3 of the price/litre of those little bottles. Although an amateur (now), buying that much at a time lets me into the professional market.
It's also one of the ways supermarkets etc keep their prices low. It prevents them having to tie up retail real estate with behind-the-scenes storage space - as soon as stock is delivered it's out on the shelves.

I like how the wizard always says "right after this...", and immediately I'm expecting some sort of promo or commercial, but no, just his intro.
LOL I noticed that as well. I'm thinking something will pop up on the screen.
I just watched a 27 minute video on an oil change
I just watched 30 minutes of how to do a good grilled cheese
I know, right! But somehow I was entranced by his presentation.
But the Weeezaaard is so cuddly!
I can change my oil and filter in ten minutes. It costs $30 and that includes a new drain plug !
Me too!!!!!!!
Car Wizard, I'm thrilled to see you using the BG MOA friction modifier. I love that stuff. I also use LiquiMoly's Ceratec in my 5.7 hemi.

Hey Wizard, Can you do a video on BG MOA and other oil additives? Do you use BG MOA in the TDI motor in Squirtle?
William Clark Also, I’ve heard zinc additives can clog up catalytic converters. Is this true?
Do not use these products on EO EURO6 engines and up. Just use the correct oil and original oil filters.

Never realized that the Bentley door chime is VW's.
Prob the same one in lambos too hahah
Bentley is owned by Volkswagen.
Same with bmw and rolls.
FishFind3000 that’s of nicer quality though ;) Bentley and vw ain’t got shit quality wise on rolls and bmw
Wizard you are awesome. I like your service charge logic. People are unaware of the work and technical knowledge it takes to service vehicles in general.
I started to laugh when he said "JACK MODE".
thanks for this Wizard! regarding the interior, had a 40 year old Bentley for several years, and it still smells like new leather inside.
When I first started, I serviced a fleet of 150 mack concrete mixers . could do 3 a day if I busted ass. I have changed more oil than I can count.
Don't know if they still make them great, but back in the day the Mac's were Something Else
i just priced out oil and filter for this Bentley just to compare since i was curious, granted i use Amsoil instead of Mobil, but for referance, for just oil and filter, would be approx $184 just in oil and filter, i'd consider wizard's pricing cheap for what you're getting
The cost savings of E85 (which has evaporated along with the U.S. economy the last few weeks) is negligible, considering the efficiency of e85 is at least 20-30% less efficient than regular gas.
Someone who drives this, doesn't care about fuel efficient. e85 is about octane with performance cars. Not many places sell race fuel at a pump.
Hey Wizard. Big thanks from fan in Poland. I’m here from episode one and before thanks to Hoovie and to him by Doug. Best of all to all of you and your families!
The engine is pretty much 2 VW VR6 engines put together.
@@TheBigOne0305 if i recall well, the w12 in the A8 from those years puts out 450 hp.
add some forced induction, and you have... whatever you want)
it's pretty logical that if you add some more cylinders with corresponding displacement increase, you get that much power, it's the fuel economy that suffers, because friction and shit.
I was wondering if it was 2 VR6's, love VR6's.
18:01: In Europe we call that the "Just In Time" supply chain. Coronavirus has shown it has its limitations, but I see the logic.

TIL: A complete oil change is easier on a W12 Bentley than it is on an 03 Sunfire.
True but unlike an 03 Sunfire you cannot park W12 Bentley stress-free on your twice-a-week trips to Walmart.
Wow how clean is that thing underneath? At 33000 miles it shows the difference attention to detail and careful ownership makes! My son worked for Bentley making the dash trims, wood, carbon fibre and lately stone, lovely!
I’m highly suspicious of any oil/fuel additives. I’ve yet to see any tests which support using it.
Yep.
Whenever I start do dig up information on how they came up with "37% LESS ENGINE WEAR" or "18% BETTER ECONOMY" I find out that they're using the cheapest possible mineral oil as a benchmark.
yes bentley dont like anything but oil in there
Yep obviously wizard wants to make a bit extra money by selling them. But personally if i owned a shop i wouldn't video myself to thousands of people selling that stuff. I don't have a problem when people spend their money on placebo effects. If it makes you happy, it makes you happy. But i think it's very transparent what the wizard is doing
@@ЕмилЕфендулов IF any legit data at all exists.

What does JACK MODE do? Disable the alarm or something or stop the suspension drooping?
Yea it basically tells the car that it’s going to be lifted off the ground. That mode prevents the suspension from trying to self level itself, which prevents damage to the system
So if you park illegally and the tow truck jacks your ride there could be serious issues.

"Just in time" - Toyota
@@jaybee2344 NAILED it...JIT
It assumes a robust supply chain, though... which sadly - at the moment - is not a given.
@@RoyalFizzbin True, but then not many people are in the market for a car at the moment either...
A 4 liter (5 quart) jug of Mobil full synthetic, on sale, runs about US$90 in Switzerland. 13 quarts would easily run over $250 for the oil , alone!
That’s a lot of plastic waste using all the small bottles, surely they give you the same discount on the bigger containers.. all a bit strange
Would be faster and less work as well.
he probably doesnt use that oil for his normal oil change services, I'm sire he has bulk oil for other stuff.
I see it on a lot of US car shows, the use a heap of the small bottles, just found it strange 👍
Can you make a video where you change oil on a car as fast as possible. Free choice of car and then challenge tavrish with the same challenge
Any Subaru without the plastic under tray or '99-'07 Chevy trucks/SUVs. Both can be changed in a parking lot without even needing a jack, filters are super easy to get to, and the oil drain is right near the oil filter.
