Ingenieers of this car must to have been under the influence of something, when they decided where to put the oil filter and the drain plug they made it to easy, they were probably fired after this car.
That's quite a Japanese thing. I've got two JDM imports and the old filters point right towards the sump plug. If you have a basin-sized oil catch pan, you don't even need to move it.
Pro tip: turn the car on its side to pre fill the oil filter. ;)

13 quarts of oil that meets VW/Audi/Bentley/etc.'s specification and a good quality filter can easily cost $120-150 and then you're paying an experienced mechanic to do the job rather than some kid straight out of high school at a lube shop making $10/hr. Gotta pay to play, this isn't a Toyota Corolla!
Wow . $300k car and there's a bolt on the oil filter to make the job easier . It's a bitch to get the oil filter off my 2000 Honda Civic 😅
Unfortunately, sometimes us VW owners have to buy Audi parts--and ouch it is for a cheap car.
Fortunately, when comes to a car as costly as the Bently - getting parts from an A8 is actually pretty economical. (It's all relative).
@Stimpy&Ren They were A8 bearings. You don't pay more to have lower servicing costs. That's how trucks work - not luxury cars. Although I do wonder if a truck engine could go in a Bently or Rolls - with a small electric motor to smooth it out - it could be super reliable and long service intervals.
If you use sites like rockauto, they'll have some non oe parts that are priced as low as possible and they have wide ranges of OE replacements like Meyle or TRW for example. These companies do supply VW group but the parts are just cheaper because it doesnt say VW or Audi or something on it.
I don't get muricans
Here in europe nobody buys oem parts or even services their car at the dealer.
We have high-quality aftermarket parts - ATE, Sachs, Lemforder, we buy those, not "BMW" or "Audi" branded parts
@@Random-nf7qb It's more difficult to find those brands here because the majority suppliers in the US are companies like ACDelco (GM) Motorcraft (Ford) and Mopar(FCA) and a lot of the other suppliers like Denso are also big here because of Toyota, but most European car owners don't know of these brands or trust them I believe, personally I do use brands like lemforder, Bilstein, and meyle on my cars but the parts are not only more difficult to find, very few people outside of Euro focused shops know of these brands

I had the pleasure of watching bentley testing the standard Continental GT, they had that thing hitting 170-180mph on the oval track, they are ludicrously fast.
It was crazy quiet too.
this car has a dipstick? woah that’s crazy
Yes I was surprised too.

Yeah that's cool I hate how most Audi and Mercedes have gotten rid of it and just use a sensor
ClintE55 the only cars that will have them were engines that were using in crossover years like my 08 e60 550i that same 4.8l v8 was used in other models that don’t have idrive so you can’t really see the oil level. There’s a hidden dipstick in the back that’s colored black. If you don’t look it’s not there. Newer ones don’t have it. One be if it is they don’t have the worry about making room for the tube and stick.
I was surprised too. Most of these European sedans show the oil level on the digital display only.
That’s a lot of plastic waste using all the small bottles, surely they give you the same discount on the bigger containers.. all a bit strange
Fair point. I buy the 5 liter cans (cheaper due to volume discount) but I always poor some into an old 1l can when topping up because the 5l cans are heavy, difficult to manouver and will spill all over the place
Wizard says that he buys on time next door, I don't know why he doesn't get two of the 5 liter ones and a couple small to top off. Would be faster and less work as well.
he probably doesnt use that oil for his normal oil change services, I'm sire he has bulk oil for other stuff.
I see it on a lot of US car shows, the use a heap of the small bottles, just found it strange 👍

Bentley is owned by Volkswagen.
Regrettably, although it is a nice thing, the modern Bentley just IS a Volkswagen for the most part. They died when VW bought them back in 1998. I had hopes VW would just give them financial security and respect the history of what they had bought, but they failed to do that. Bentley now are half coach-built delight, half VW parts bin, and I don't think it's ever going to be any better than that now.
Same with bmw and rolls.

When I start my plane's engine I have *thirty* seconds for oil pressure to register before I have a problem. Being airplane parts the oil and filter are much more expensive than similar car parts. Being a 1950s design (Lycoming O-320) the oil consumption is significant - I buy oil by the case. Like driving a fancy car, if you can't afford to look after a plane you can't afford it at all.

Couple of points:
Zinc is awesome additive for oil, but it will contaminate and shorten the life of a very expensive bently catalytic converter.
you never mention the relationship between the W12 & the VW VR6.
if you where a mental case you could fill the oil filter 7/8ths up, then use thick grease in the holes at the bottom of the filter to temporarily stop the oil from coming out, then screw the filter on real fast.

16:00 the W12 is a VW development towards the millenium. I was introduced with the Phaeton (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_Group_petrol_engines#6.0_WR12_48v) and later established in other cars - e.g. A8 where it got more "common"
99% of this car is a Phaeton that was "modified to look like a Bentley"
99%, a completely made up figure.
You have read the other Wiki contribution to the one that I read, which stated that the first car to use the W12 engine was the VW Nardo concept car but the first production car was the Audi A8 D4 (2001 only) and thereafter VW phaeton and the Bentley range. Check out W12 engine on Wiki.

Any Subaru without the plastic under tray or '99-'07 Chevy trucks/SUVs. Both can be changed in a parking lot without even needing a jack, filters are super easy to get to, and the oil drain is right near the oil filter.
i just priced out oil and filter for this Bentley just to compare since i was curious, granted i use Amsoil instead of Mobil, but for referance, for just oil and filter, would be approx $184 just in oil and filter, i'd consider wizard's pricing cheap for what you're getting

I"ve been using BG MOA for a decade now.... Good stuff. I've had a virgin oil analysis on it and its good stuff.
I can tell it's a VW/Audi car mechanically. Same 36mm oil filter bolt, 19mm sump bolt and about 11 X T25/T30 torx on the belly plate. Even a humble Golf or Audi A3 has similar. 😁
The Wizard is a true professional. Great attention to detail (even shielding the engine from a drop of oil from the oil funnel when removing it). $200 for an oil change like this is a bargain. Bravo, Wizard.
Wow 13 quarts on a supercar! Kinda puts into perspective that my econobox is a 1.7 liter 4 pot that happily takes 3.5 quarts, well is not that I could afford a Bentley with a part time job while I finish college anyways. Love how the wizard works equally with crapboxes and beautiful exotic cars
The starter noise on this engine is intoxicating. 😍
Reminds me of the old truck air starters.
A 4 liter (5 quart) jug of Mobil full synthetic, on sale, runs about US$90 in Switzerland. 13 quarts would easily run over $250 for the oil , alone!
I’m highly suspicious of any oil/fuel additives. I’ve yet to see any tests which support using it.
Yep.
Whenever I start do dig up information on how they came up with "37% LESS ENGINE WEAR" or "18% BETTER ECONOMY" I find out that they're using the cheapest possible mineral oil as a benchmark.
yes bentley dont like anything but oil in there
Yep obviously wizard wants to make a bit extra money by selling them. But personally if i owned a shop i wouldn't video myself to thousands of people selling that stuff. I don't have a problem when people spend their money on placebo effects. If it makes you happy, it makes you happy. But i think it's very transparent what the wizard is doing
@@ЕмилЕфендулов IF any legit data at all exists.
Car manufacturers specifically recommend against any additives. Project Farm has also demonstrated that the additive package in modern oil is much better than that in STP.
Does anyone think of Bubbles from TPB? Not in a negative way, in the most positive way possible. I really enjoy The Wizard and his endless amount of automotive knowledge.
The engine is pretty much 2 VW VR6 engines put together.
Interesting to see that the power output is scaling pretty much linear. One of those VR6 makes about 250hp naturally aspirated (at least the one in my 2004 Audi A3 3.2 does, the ones in the R32 Golfs may have had different specs) and the two bolted together here result in 630hp, but they aren't naturally aspirated. I would have expected more loss of efficiency from the setup. Or maybe I'm underestimating the increase in power forced induction on a >6l 12 cylinder should produce?
@@TheBigOne0305 if i recall well, the w12 in the A8 from those years puts out 450 hp.
add some forced induction, and you have... whatever you want)
it's pretty logical that if you add some more cylinders with corresponding displacement increase, you get that much power, it's the fuel economy that suffers, because friction and shit.
I was wondering if it was 2 VR6's, love VR6's.
The Aston Martin V12 is just 2 Ford Taurus engines (Duratec 30) stuck together with some Cosworth magic breathed into them. The early ones were in the 400 HP range, roughly double a Taurus as well. The Gallardo's V10 is 2 inline 5s from a base model Jetta, again with a little extra work done.
This is a dumb analogy, as you could literally say any engine is just a smaller engine doubled. Doesn't mean shit if it's not engineered properly. It's a silly reductionist argument. Well a Bugatti is just 4 Jetta engines, I'm pretty sure there is a little more to it than some piece of shit Jetta motor times four.
it's not an Audi, it's a VW....the engine is two vw corrado 2.9 vr 6 cyclinder engines joined together to create a 12 cyclinder engine...VW, own the Bentley brand.
What does JACK MODE do? Disable the alarm or something or stop the suspension drooping?
Yea it basically tells the car that it’s going to be lifted off the ground. That mode prevents the suspension from trying to self level itself, which prevents damage to the system
So if you park illegally and the tow truck jacks your ride there could be serious issues.

@@jaybee2344 NAILED it...JIT
It assumes a robust supply chain, though... which sadly - at the moment - is not a given.
@@RoyalFizzbin True, but then not many people are in the market for a car at the moment either...
There's a really good book, "The Toyota Way" by Jeffrey Liker that delves into the origins of how Toyota do things. Some of it's barely believable, the lengths they'll go to to get suppliers working well.
The other thing one realises from reading the book is that it's all very meta at Toyota. Their secret isn't just that they know how to do JIT or Quality properly. It's not just that they know how to train people to do them properly. It's not really even that they know how to train those trainers. But it is the next training level up from that.
That, plus they'll take their own sweet time making their minds up over new stuff. We're seeing some of that play out right now. Toyota used to be an investor in Tesla, but got fed up of Musk and walked away. A fair question now is, "Where is Toyota's electric vehicle?".
Well, it's on its way, and they've been working very hard on solid state lithium ion battery electrolytes. The result (according to their press release) is 5 minute charging time, deep cycle (so more energy), no wear life problems, full regen braking energy recovery (because the battery can absorb it all). This will be coming to Toyotas near us all in a couple of years or so. This will make electric cars "normal"; normal to refill (no need to wait around for 30 minutes), normal expectations as to how long big bits of the car will last (so good resale value), more efficient than other electric cars, and more range. Oh, and they'll likely never, ever break down and cost half the price.
If they're not very careful, Tesla are going to be stuck making cars with The Wrong Battery Technology.

18:01: In Europe we call that the "Just In Time" supply chain. Coronavirus has shown it has its limitations, but I see the logic.
JIT is a crucial part of a Toyota Production System (a lean manufacturing methodology). There's a wealth of different lean manufacturing ideologies that are used in the UK. That multitude of little Oil packs make for a lot of packaging waste. That's why we don't like to use them even if the price difference is not a big deal
Car Wizard, I'm thrilled to see you using the BG MOA friction modifier. I love that stuff. I also use LiquiMoly's Ceratec in my 5.7 hemi.

never been this early to a youtube video before
At least in russia, they normally sell oil in 4L cans.
Enough for most 4-cylinder cars, and it's cheaper than getting them in 1L cans.
And there are places where they mostly do oil changes, but they'll sell you mobil1 or shell from a barrel, but i don't need that in my volvo, i can get russian-made stuff in a shop, which is seemingly as good, and has the same tolerances, but 30% cheaper.
So it's kinda vice-versa, funnily enough.
