    It's interesting to think about why this occurs in nature too. I've heard of a lot of painters thinking that all light behaves this way, with a warm source having cool shadows, etc., when in reality it's a bit more specific. I think it's very clever to use the strobes in this way mimicking the sun as the point source and the shadows being lifted by secondary illumination from the cooler ambient light from the sky. I hadn't really given it much thought before watching this video. Even though it was simple for you to actually set up and execute, it was still very informative and I'm glad you made this video on the topic.

    I love your tutorials and how they can be used for other subjects. I’m currently trying to shoot lifestyle photos of watches with a sunlight effect, would you have any pointers on how to do it differently compared to this? The reflective nature of watches can really be a pain sometimes.

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  Месяц назад

      Yes, hard light on a watch is... kind of hard. You can do it if you place the flash far away and then play araound with diffusion and bounce cards.

    Hi Martin great tut as always. :)
    Just one little thing, i know that it's "sun" light and it makes strong highlights, specially the ones from de blue light, in the Heins bottle. Are you ok with that, or if it was for a real client, would you soften them?
    Thanks

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  3 года назад +1

      In this kind of shot I would let it be as "natural" as possible. Not care about gradients and fine tuning like a product shot. If the client would have some issues I would fix it of course.
      Not really 100% following you how you mean strong highlight from the blue? You mean the down side of the Heinz bottle?

    • @joaocovas
      @joaocovas 3 года назад

      I understand the "natural", and i'm ok with that, i like it also. Yes I mean the down side or the bottle, it looks like we see the bulb of the flash head. Just my OCD ahahaha. By the way you explain light like no one does! Awsome. Thanks for that

    • @botvidsson

      Yes, the "blue" flash do not hit the set directly, just bounces from a matte ceiling. Big big light source.

    Hi Martin, another great tutotial. Thank You very much. One question about zoom reflector grids. If I can't found 5 degree grid do you think 10 degree will be enough in dramatic scenarious like You created hiere? I tryed found some cheeper grid than profoto but I think 10 degree it is the minimum I can get in low price.

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  2 года назад

      Yes, absolutely. Sometimes a 5 degree is nice to have when you want a super small spot of light but in this case a 10 works I think.

    Hi Martin - I'm quite new to this and found your channel reasonably early in my journey. How lucky I am for that, because I'm learning so much. I wanted to ask you about this overlay that you use here. Can this be done in Lightroom Classic with the Live View? I don't have Capture One so I'm hoping there is a solution for this.

    Amazing tutorial as always Martin,
    I just have few Questions:
    1-based on your other tutorial you were using a bare flash to mimic the sun.but why this time you are using the grid.are you trying to mimic the sun lights going through a window for example?
    2-what are you using to stick the SSD drive to your MAC :)

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  2 года назад

      Hi Nader nice to see you!
      If I use a bare flash the scene will get direct light and the shadow fill from the bounce light in the room, and you can do that. No problem.
      In this case I wanted 100% control of the shadow fill with a second flash (The one with blue gel). I found this way better and more realistic to add a more neutral/blueish tone to the shadows.
      Does the make sense?

    Hi! First of all, thank you for this informative video as usual hehe. I have a question that some people say Feathering Light is quite a myth to achieve the softer look, only relative size and distance from light to subject matter. Do you have any more information about this technique?

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  3 года назад +1

      I feather the light all the time. Probably 90% of all my light is feathered. It's not about to get the light softer, well... it will be softer but the main reason is to create a GRADIENT. From bright to dark.
