To me, the beginning cutscene was the funniest of all cutscenes in San Andreas and I immediately noticed that Ryder made a reference to how most GTA players drive, I crash hella cars.
I done a little experiment, even when you drive perfectly & smoothly on the road, hardly any crashes & ryder still complains about It xD I know there ain't no alternative cutscene but still

Alternate story to GTA San Andreas: Big Smoke is with the Ballas from the start. However, in the Green Sabre mission, he and Ryder realize that it ain't worth it to betray Sweet and CJ. So they decided to give the Ballas the wrong advice. So instead of Grove Street getting led into a trap, it's the Ballas who are massacred. The remaining Ballas capture Big Smoke and Ryder and plan to kill them. Sweet is angered by their betrayal (even tho they switched back), so he decides to let them die. CJ was more forgiving, and requests the help of Cesar to save Smoke and Ryder. They get rescued, only for the LSPD, led by CRASH, close in. A gunfight ensues, and to ensure the protection of his sister, CJ tells Cesar to take Kendle to get out of town and then he'll meet up with them when he can. Cesar escapes, but it isn't the same for the others. They decided it'll be harder for the cops to find them if they split up. This was a mistake. Sweet was captured at Grove Street. CJ tried shooting some cover for Smoke and Ryder, but is eventually captured. Ryder and Smoke are ambushed by the Ballas, who turn them into the police. The game then goes on like normal, CJ does work for CRASH, dates Catalina, meets Wu Zi, gets a garage, meets the Truth, and goes to San Fierro. CJ is told about Mike Toreno, and finds out he can get his homies out of prison. CJ agrees to work for him. Finally, his homies are released, they recapture Grove Street, reunite the families (again), and manage to push the Ballas out of Los Santos. But there's still one target: Officer Tempanny. They do work to find their location. Smoke and CJ decide to dress as Ballas drug dealers and try to get a meeting with Tempanny. Eventually they do, and alert Sweet and Ryder to his location. Cesar and his gang agree to help, as you find out that CRASH has been a thorn in their ass as well. Wu Zi and his gang agree to help CJ, as they want to repay his services. Tempanny and the remaining Ballas meet CJ and Smoke, but then realized that it wasn't actual Ballas. He instantly recognized CJ and Smoke, but by then it was too late. The families, Triads, and Aztecas have surrounded the location and attack. CRASH and the Ballas realize that there's no point in fighting, and agree to leave the city. Tempanny resigns from the LSPD. The gangs return to their turfs, but agree to help each other whenever they're needed. In return, each gang welcomes the other gang in their turf is they ever want to chill. And that's how it ends.
Actually, he does open fire on that car attempting to kill him, Ryder, Sweet & CJ during the first mission, if you notice, CJ and Ryder jump and cower.
This is just a theory, but I think Smoke wasn't supposed to be a part of this mission. He barely says anything at all here, and when he does, it's just some generic lines that can be applied everywhere. There's like 0 interaction between him and the other two, it feels like he's a last minute addition. Also from narrative standpoint, Smoke aren't supposed to shoot Ballas. The game painted him as the funny, friendly hungry guy, while subtly hinting about his upcoming betrayal, so players who has finished the game can look back at it, but this mission doesn't really fit with that little detail.
I've never seen anyone mention it, as far as I know I discovered this. Instead of getting in the car, go anywhere and do anything with no police or wanted stars or gangs. The streets are pretty much empty and your wanted level is locked at 0. Area 69 will still shoot at you, but literally nothing will cause a wanted level. Collect all the oysters, take all the snapshots, steal vehicles from San Fierro and Las Venturas, move vehicles to Doherty, and do everything you can think of. The guys will wait patiently in the car until you get back. Then you can decide if you want to pass or fail the mission. I call it the drive by police holiday free pass glitch. You're welcome :-)
At GTA SA you can, drive a BMX an MTB, pilot a plane, do Base Jump, dive underwater, MOD a car, recruit members to do a drive by and a lot of things more.
did someone noticed that Big Smoke wasn't in the starting cutscene of this mission, in fact we didn't even picked him up, but still when you reach idlewood, big smoke is sitting in front seat of the car holding a tec-9
You don’t get a wanted level on this mission so I went to the police station and kept killing cops for like 20 minutes and got a shit load of pistol ammo, I also went to the restricted area to get a Hydra or a rhino but couldn’t find one
It feels like Smoke was put in this mission by accident. He didn't appear in the intro cutscene, only had 2 lines throughout the whole mission, one of which is in the ending cutscene and it doesn't quite fit in with his behavior in the mission Drive Thru.
