In my experience I found Russian language to be super easy to learn to a high level. There are so many intermediate and high intermediate full Russian RUclips channels teaching Russian, and the amount of movies, free resources and podcasts are superior. Certain languages are so easy to learn because of the amount of content.... I am in Croatia learning Croatian after escaping Ukraine. I lived in Ukraine for 7 years. I speak good Russian. But Croatian is hard. Why? No intermediate content! Only beginner stuff or advanced native stuff.

Most online resources out there don't have material past the intermediate or high intermediate levels. I sometimes read at the advanced level in a language and gradually look up sentences or words, grammar patterns, etc. That has helped me tremendously.
In my opinion, as a brazilian portuguese native speaker, japanese is waaay easier than mandarin or thai when we're talking about the pronunciation but the grammar is way more difficult than korean for example, especially because of the alphabet characters When I try learning these languages, the easier one in my opinion was korean

Yes! It is no problem at all! I started with training the ears the sounds of the language so I just watched content in the language until the jibberish started to sound like a language, and like sentences, and kept listening until I actually heard a word which happened to be hello. Then I learned the writing system to learn what sounds the language contains to better tell my brain what sounds we are listening for, and that's the point where I started to learn words. I kept listening a lot and found that when I learn certain words or grammar points I often recall hearing them used before so understanding and remembering is much easier. Language is 4 parts; reading, writing, listening and speaking and with those in mind you can decide the priority you hold in each for your goal.
I don’t think Matt’s seriously watched some cartoons or kids shows in a while. They’re generally pretty fun. Stuff like Pokémon, the grim adventures of Billy and Mandy, courage the cowardly dog, looney tunes, all great shows.
Also, just the game of trying to understand the foreign language is enjoyable, sometimes you’re not even really focused on the content, it’s just cool to understand what they’re saying in Peppa Pig or Sesame Street.
I think he would’ve been more accurate to say that “toddler shows” are boring. Most kid shows that target years 7+ are usually still entertaining to adults. It’s shows for younger children that are boring
Not everybody likes cartoons that much! Lol. It's one thing to watch a cartoon or animated movie once in a while. But it's entirely another thing if you have to watch them every day because that's the only comprehensible input that exists in your target language--regardless of the quality. I totally got what he was saying.
From a young age i wanted to learn other languages but unfortunately there were no mentors or language buddies, and worse than that my interests changed every 3 or 4 years so i went from German to Russian, Japanese, Chinese, took French in middle school, Latin in high school, then decided to focus on Spanish because its the most useful in the USA. I also had interest in Swahili and Indonesian. Anyway, i didn't make extraordinary progress in Spanish until I went to Mexico with a friend for 3 weeks. So i did teach myself conversational Spanish within 2 years when i went back. Along the way i did absorb a lot about linguistics and language in general. My Chinese isn't conversational (i can read and write a little) but i wouldn't starve to death if i woke up in China, France, or Brazil. I could write a book on how NOT to learn a language. Lol

The hard part of Japanese is it has 3 levels of courtesy... so there are 3x the adjectives adverbs etc.

There is no effortless way to study a foreign language. Persistence, patience and a lot of time is what is necessary.
