Why is 7x50 only good for Marine View?? I have purchased the Nikon 7x50 for regular use so is that a mistake?

I see some disadvantages for general use that are not significant for marine use.
      - Individual focusing. (you can get a 7x50 with center focusing too) In marine or astronomy use you just set the focus to infinity once and you're done.
      - large size
      - near focusing is often not very good with 7x50

You didn't make a mistake. It's not only suitable for marine, even though it's commonly used there. 7x50 is also good for low light situations, among other things.

@@OpticsTradeEU Thank you so much for the reply I have returned the 7x50 and got myself a Nikon Aculon A211 10x42 one and i find it quite good 👌

7X 50 porros are best for marine/military/astronomical use. Also is good for watching birds in flight or at night at distances longer than 20 yards. But they are heavy for hicking, hunting and any activity that requires long walks. I use a 7x50 Steiners for airshows, sporting events, marine life (bird and whales), watching owls an night and stargazing. A friend of mine uses his Fujinon polaris 7x50 for astronomical use.
PD, I just got some Polaris too!
If you are going to do nature watching, like birds, butteflies, or hunting in a forest, they 7x50 hare just too bulky and heavy, and often lack the close focus needed to see a bird in a branch at 10 yards or a butterfly at 5. But Meopta do some 7X50s roofs with central focus for general purpose use.

7X50 is a dream binocular for astronomy.

True and the most expensive 7x50 on the market is designed for just that purpose - the Nikon WX. Too bad that wide angle 7x50s are no longer made by most companies. But for around 50 € one can find vintage 10x50s with 10° FoV.
Edit: I meant 7x50 of course with 10°.

True, I have tried both the classic 7X50 and the 10X50s the current fashion pushes for astronomy and yet, I find the 7X50 more confortable except for planets and the moon. The 7X50 allows you to learn the sky faster and are comfier in long hand held observation sesions, As stated before, the best 7x50s the are the Nikon WX, the Nikon SP Prostars, and the Fujinon FMT SX and they are all designed for astronomy.

Hi, I a little older . Is the 7x50 still the best for casual stargazing use? Thanks.

A friend of mine who is a profesional astronomer said yes, he loves his Fujis 7x50 Polaris.
PD, now I got my Polaris too1. And yes, for clearing fields of stars they can be beaten. UI like 10X50s for the Moon and Planets,

Did they say "poor" lenses? Im not understanding. Are they saying that the lenses are inferior, and thus need to be larger (ie 50mm) to be suitable??

Which for scouting surfing, from the land? 8x42 or 7x50? I see benefits to both. 8x42 for more portable use (storing in vehicle glovebox) vs 7x50 for performance in low light (early early mornings). Thoughts?

There is one thing you missed regarding material construction. Optics in metal housing will be always heavier . The second very important thing is impact damage . Metal housing will transmit all the shock to the lens where plastic since it is softer and more elastic will absorb the shock in most cases if made correctly without a failure where in metal housing the lens can be easily dislocated out of alignment or develop micro cracks on the prism.

Nice review. Now would you reccomend 8x42 binoculars for marine use too or should I stick with 7x50 s ?

    • @OpticsTradeEU

We generally recommend the maximum magnification of 7x to be used at sea. With bigger magnification you're risking being seasick when observing through the binoculars.

Thanks for your detailed review! I'd like to ask if 7x50 binoculars are more suitable for astronomy compared to 8x42. On the one hand, 7x50 collect more light but on the other hand they are heavier than 8x42.

Hello . That was really useful video with practical tips .
I use nikon tropical 7x50 and sapa 7x42 compass binoculars . As you know 7x50 has 7.14 mm exit pupil and 7x42 has 6 mm exit pupil. I think that with my eyes pupil (I'm 40 years old ) about 1 mm vast in 7x50 and i saw the same through both of them at dusk or down. In my opinion the only advantage of 7x50 is that in low light i can adjust interpupillary distance more easy than 7x42. Considering that 7x42 has less weight and size than 7x50 Don't you think it's wrong to use a 7x50's binoculars for me ?
    Regards. Mohammad

Should i choose 7x50 or 7x42 for usual use, if 8x42 is not available?

      @mohammadvarzideh780 3 года назад

@@tubeysr for usual use 7x42 is better . Because it's lighter . But if you want to use that mostly at night , then i prefer 7x50. Good luck.

Delta optics 7x50 is basically poor man night vision. Not very useful during day ( they are heavy ) but in bad light conditions i am happy to have them with me and i am okay with the weight. Because the picture quality in low light is awesome. Next step would be thermal camera.
