I love you're videos so much. I tell people all the time to check out your videos. I've worked at a pet store and vet office for the past 7 years now and I always tell people to check you out. That you teach so much and they can learn so much from you
Pumpkin Seed is such an adorable bouncy little bean. Doing intros is one thing I don't miss about having rats, it was such a stressful time for both me and the rats. I'm glad Tofu isn't a bully, I would be disappointed if my favorite rat was anything less than perfect.
I am so scared for when their time comes but they truly are so intelligent and sweet.... ❤❤ leider mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut , Entschuldigung für Englisch. Ich sollte wieder Studie. I probably got something wrong haha 😭
Breeding for temperament always comes short when selecting for health and colors/body confirmation. its just a sad reality. i am breeding since 2017. and I try to select for temperament. BUT if the best temperament rat gets sicker more often (sniffles) or has a bad/misformed body shape then its in the best intrest of the line/animals to take the lil worse temperament rat - in favor of health. my main line has come very far by now and I barely have to do intros. but that was hard selection for the past 6-7 years! So yeah people can be ethical breeders, but line still will have some problems. there is also no gurantee how a rat turns out after it left the breeders home either. i understand its frustrating, but character sometimes is a hard thing to select. it takes time and patience good luck on your intros and greetings from europe
I am having the same problem, my nearly five month old boy rats have accepted my adopted 10 month old except one. The naughty one Badger constantly picks on him & has drawn blood, although I have seen them all sleeping together, Tonight in free run Badger attacked Ollie drew blood again & Ollie is such a lovely boy. Anyway I have put the three rats that really get on with him together in a separate cage for now & the other two in another. I will continue to see if they will accept him, but if not they will have to be separate, I don't like this but I don't want Ollie traumatised.
I have honestly stopped getting rats from breeders because of this reason.. Twice now the rats have just been mean/weird temperments or don't take newcomers/intros well. Not to mention the price of them, 150 for two rats is kind of crazy 😭 (not saying all breeder rats are this way, just what I've experienced)
I have to add (I still say fuck Major chain pet stores (coughcoughpetshartcough)), all of my rats are from a pet store and not a breeder. I work there: so three times, they left a rat behind without their friend. I kept telling them to sell them together not separate but hey nobody listens to me :') so in turn I couldn't resist so I took some home, not being able to stand them alone. Well, my first rats were from there too including my heart rat Binki ❤ but anyway. They have all, EVERY single one of rats I got, literally bonded within an instant of me putting the box next to them. I read all up on introductions and the like for days! My favorite story of this very strange immediate "OURS!!!" phenomenon, I put Mishkas box next to the cage to start intros. My girls, went WILD sniffing through the cage! Like little grabby hands and everything. I opened up the door and the box for them to sniff each other and one girl immediately plops into the other box like "this is also mine now". They loved her as soon as it opened. They accepted her immediately, and the only tussles were your typical dominance squabbles. I was flabbergasted. I have a really silly suspicion they are all related as my youngest girl (Zippy) has the same belly markings as my heart rat (Binki). So maybe theres some spiritual rat bloodline thing going on but yeah. So anyway, it's just interesting that spending about 20~$ for me was easier than spending over 150+ from a breeder hella far from me. The biggest downside to the girls I have are that they took a little longer to get comfortable with me. Out of all 7 only two are hella skittish. One girl in particular, she has never recovered from "pet store" (the coworker pulled her tail picking her up and I was livid but she said "it's fine", I was new&scared so I didn't argue but man I was mad!), so she will never be comfortable fully with me :( So sorry for the ramble maybe it's the RatTism haha 😭 they are my joy in life.
I’m having problems integrating my newest girls with my older girl. It’s very frustrating. Like yours, they do ok outside but my older girl (who was rescued from an abusive home) is too nervous and I hate to see it. Unfortunately I only have one DCN plus a single CN. I haven’t given up yet though.
I never wanted to breed rats, just did rat rescues. Of course, a couple of times, nature made its presence and resulted in great and successful litters.
