Should add a emergency blanket or two (or 4 like my kit). I also have these twist lights that clip to the inside of my pack, but they can clip anywhere.
Thank you Rusty - can you possibly do some videos telling stories of people who experienced great difficulty out in the wild and how they overcame these difficulties?
Good list but don’t forget a container to boil water in, a non insulated metal container with a nesting cup is great and you can put most of those items in it that you listed, overall great advice! And train, train and train some more👍
Thanks, Rusty. Although I am subscribed I just found this video of yours: I was not notified of the upload. Excellent advice on survival tools. Thanks for taking the time to keep us safe 'out there'.
The Good News: The Lord Jesus Christ died, was buried and rose again on the third day and shed his blood for you! Get saved today if you aren't already! Have a blessed day Rusty and everyone and thanks for the great video!!
Never hike alone. I’d add a small can of glow in the dark spray paint. It weighs nothing and could help you be seen if you fall and can’t move further down the trail.
Good Advice, more people should pay attention to the few items to insure chances of survival. Can add more to it later on , improving the odds. Water flask, coffee filters. GPS trackers are nowadays fairly cheap, it is a good suggestion and have been indicated as very effective by Searchers/Rescue, do not rely entirely on a cell phone.
Well done; however, I would add lightweight mylar thermal survival blankets to the list! There are many available types that can be carried in your pockets, and can be a lifesaver!
Hi Rusty, this is a superb video for those folks going into the wilderness. I hope hikers get real and follow your guidelines outlined so very well in this video. And if people don’t want to carry anything at all thinking they are “very experienced in the forests,” then they are only fooling themselves. I suggest that these people STAY AWAY FROM THE WILDERNESS 100%, and go home. 🙄 THANK YOU so much for letting us know what we need in the woods and/or national and state parks, it is truly appreciated. Your thoughtfulness is welcome all the time. I am immensely impressed. Excellent done ✔️ Bravo bravo 👏👏👏👏👍👍🙌🙌❤
Couple of things besides the compass which everyone should learn to use. A SatNav device like a garmin/navman, personal locator beacon and if one plans to go where no man's gone before, carry a gun an go in pairs. Well.. more than a couple o' things but hey, we're talking about saving bacon..
Great video & advice Rusty!! I’m glad you made this video because I’m an avid hiker and camper myself. And a lot of people I’ve found don’t carry any of these items! Which is crazy to me. What I would like to add to this list is you should also carry a space blanket, a poncho in case it rains (shell out $$ for a good one!!) and also to ALWAYS hike with emergency food rations, you can easily find these in any Walmart or camping store. Each block is equivalent to a 2,000 calorie a day diet, which means in an emergency you can also ration them if need be. Also ALWAYS hike with clothing for all types of weather-Even in summer hike with a jacket or a sweater in your pack because it can get cold at night, especially if it’s raining etc. I’m definitely adopting Rusty’s tip of using dryer lint as a fire starter so thanks for that great idea! To all my fellow nature lovers have fun out there in the wilderness and more importantly stay safe!! Much love all!
If in areas where there are bears ALWAYS carry bear spray too! I took this advice from one of my most favorite park rangers in Daniel Boone National Forest/Red River Gorge Ecological Area which would be Mr. Farmer. Like he said “Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it!” :)
Oh and one more thing I would like to add for back country hikers and backpackers-ALWAYS know what type of predatory animals are in the areas you’ll be hiking. I’m in Kentucky and we have black bears here which means if you are hiking with food or toiletries you need to either bring a bear canister and bury it at least 100 yards from where you are sleeping. Also NO cooking within 100 yards of where you’ll be sleeping! Animals, particularly bears will follow that scent. You can also look up how to properly hang your food/toiletries in a bag from a tree. Because keeping it real the LAST thing you want is a bear in your camp!! This is also important because if bears become habituated to humans and food it creates problem bears for EVERYONE, and when that happens people can get hurt and most often times the bear has to be euthanized by law enforcement/park rangers. Hope this helps anyone out there back country hiking or backpacking. Have fun & stay safe everyone!
Great advice. Thank you. I would like to add, don't go alone.

Should add a emergency blanket or two (or 4 like my kit). I also have these twist lights that clip to the inside of my pack, but they can clip anywhere.

Have a blessed day Rusty and everyone and thanks for the great video!!
jesus was just a man. only G-d is G-d.
That is also great advice.
Never hike alone. I’d add a small can of glow in the dark spray paint. It weighs nothing and could help you be seen if you fall and can’t move further down the trail.
I would highly suggest a Garmin InReach to that list…..it’s 2024 get with the technology.

Rusty 😢Don't abandon us for long time..
Also, don’t forget a Ruger Alaskan .44 magnum revolver!
A 10mm works real good in the lower 48 too. 😎👍🇺🇲
Petroleum jelly, mixed into a cotton ball. Wrapped in tinfoil. Is a great waterproof, and light fire tinder. Easy to use with a ferro rod.

Eating Snow
Not Eating Yellow Snow.

Another emergency all-weather fire-starter is potassium permanganate and glycerin, makes fire after contact by exothermic reaction
👍🐿😎
I would add a firearm and 2 Way Radios, Walkie Talkies fer U safety ..... just saying
Matches Weed beer knife gun compass rope. Thats what i take.
no GPS or GPS transponder?
He mentioned it with First Aid bit
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This cannot be the original Rusty West! The original would never use the word “ass”. The voice sounds much younger as well.
Also dont forget a shotgun with ash rounds and holy water.
Never can be too careful nowadays.
This dude still trying to pull off the fake voice....
Rusty id like to add a # 11- a set of walkie talkies or 2-way radios! A # 12- mace or pepper spray! 10:08
