@@just1servant I am sorry to hear of the abuse you were put under. It’s something I despise. I have worked in social justice for many years and have also worked with an activist group fighting against sexual predators and particularly against trafficking and enslavement. I worked also in educating people with what to watch for and how these predators operate. Please understand I am calling out those who followed this sinister offender Ravi. I have called out those who continue to defend him or claim that somehow he cannot be judged because he is dead. I was naming this man as a misogynist for years before he died. No one listened and now we finally have the truth. I do not by any means put you in that category. I am glad you found help and healing. May you continue to be safe and find loving relationships.
My husband made rules for himself like not being alone with a woman other than family, never eating with a non-family woman. Women who criticized him for it were often surprised and comforted when he explained to them that he was protecting our marriage and family and his relationship with God. It was refreshing to them to think of men actually being faithful.
I am 78 and listened to Ravi for several years . His teachings were so helpful in my spiritual growth but trying to grasp what he has done has saddened me to my depths. But it hasn’t diminished my faith in Jesus at all. Just praying for everyone involved in this scandal.
The problem I have with Ravi scandal is not just Ravi himself. The people around him must known what was going on and yet remained silent to the end. Not until after he died the whole thing sprung out! If they claim of not knowing, then they are all a bunch of liars! This I do not condone! Each one of them are just as guilty as Ravi was!
@jolenegleghorn4936 ..Well said! I feel the exact same way. I don't even know the whole story about Ravi tbo.. and not sure that i want to. I'll say this, King David messed things up. His son went astray as well. Many examples of Faithful men in the Bible that really mess things up. Many examples of those Christians that Ran the race well also. I've been a drunk since I was 16 years old (long story but true). I've prayed the sinners prayer hundreds of times and just truly hope God will let me in.. I am an embarrassment to the family of God. I feel like I shouldn't even talk about my faith anymore because of my drinking. *RABBIT TRAIL* sry, anyway. I was Blessed enough to have a Father to teach me God's word from a young age. I've never put TOO much trust in My family in Christ... They are still in the flesh until we get our new bodies. It has always been easy for me. But, like you said... His family needs prayer and also, the people that he might of turned away from the faith. Very sry for long response
i would not be quick to judge his ministry partners. Maybe they had no clue. Honestly, if someone had accused him before he passed away, they would have needed to provide some convincing evidence, for i would not have believed such accusations.
Wolves and false prophets/Teachers ask for money. Jesus and His disciples NEVER did! We were warned. If we give money to these "ministries", we are left with blood on our own hands. Motive is EVERYTHING! HE WHO SOWS TO HIS OWN FLESH WILL DIE...
It's not the point. I'm more angry what he did to the name of God. I shared his ministry with unbelievers. I will probably not listen to anyone anymore. Faithful Bible reading and prayer. How do we know to believe you two?
@@crissgerwing1704 I understand and I agree. We do need to test whether people who wield power in the name of God are legitimate or charlatans. I just want to make a couple of points. 1) Jesus and His disciples never asked for money. Charlatans have the wrong MOTIVE for representing God. If they ask for money, promote their own reputation, and glorify themselves, they ARE dubious. Don't give money for ministry, or you add to the power they wield. 2) False teachers and false prophets etc don't speak of dying to self. Jesus spoke many times about submitting our wills to walk by the Spirit of truth. These include; John 12:25, Matthew 10:37-39, 16:24-27, Mark 8:34-38, Luke 9:23-26, 14:27, 17:33. He also speaks of lifting your cross and following Him, and that no-one can come to Jesus unless the Father enables him (Jn 6:65) My point is that we should be very careful about what a person preaches and their MOTIVE. We can tell if they have chosen to "die to self" by their own words/focus. If they appear wise but don't preach what Jesus did, instead focussing on self-actualisation, their own reputation, rights, wants and abilities, THEY ARE FALSE, or at least very fleshly. I hope this helps!
I'm just going to take a break from certain teachers right now. This sex addiction most men have is so degrading to women and their family. Get over yourselves guys and be Faithful.
I agree, and Satan attacks those who have big responsibilities for God more and harder. Not an excuse, but a reality! Satan loves to try to put God in a bad light! JUst as the world does!
You must always keep your eyes on Jesus! Don't allow anyone or anything to distract you or gain your focus! Peter, for prime example. When he started to walk on the water, he was focused on Jesus! But as soon as he took his eyes off the Lord, he began to sink! Very important lesson!
I remember many years ago, when he was probably in his 30's, Josh McDowell saying to young girls during one of his meetings, "If a boy says to you, 'If you really love me then you will let me'; you say back to him, 'If you truly loved me then you wouldn't even ask me that'." I thought that was one of the most powerful things I had ever heard and still do to this day. Every church should have had him talk to their youth.
Amen. One of the things to wrestle with when you have daughters , is that usually a boy is not offering your daughter something she DOESN'T want... Women enjoy sex too and are not victims of men's advances. They are both driven by desire and hormones.
I remember that. I got josh's book for my daughter when she was a teen. It was people like him who delivered the truth of Gods word, was a testament to my daughter abstaining from sex prior to her marriage to her NOW husband.🙌🏾
I agree, I just love these two guys what a privilege to see and hear them! My first time to hear Sean! And Sean if you by chance read ths you are terrific, I just watched you in a high school in FLA you were terrific! It was amazing! I saw Ravi in Redding CA. several years ago, I drove 150 miles one way! I am still grieved, it does not change my relationship with the Lord! But I still greive!
I was just thinking how blessed these two people are to have such an open, close father-son relationship. I thought about my own father and to sit and talk about anything more than day-to-day to-dos never happened. Josh and Sean McDowell thank you for being a real example of how, with the Almighty's Guidance at heart, family relationships can be. 💓

@@kwamesolo3315 that’s the beauty of it though; He wasnt killed. Jesus gave up His spirit for us and died, but He was not killed by human hands. there are many prophecies in the Psalms and Isaiah that talk about this
No, Ravi Zacharias did not save you, he just lied to you through his teeth. And you say "Jesus did", presumably because very knowledgeable and charismatic people like Ravi Zacharias told you so, right? I doubt you ever heard a peep from Jesus himself concerning your salvation, but you heard more than a mouthful from Ravi. Yet, the fact that the guy was a scoundrel and, obviously, didn't believe anything he said about this "salvation" stuff doesn't seem to make you reconsider what you heard from him! That's very curious thinking. Until the scandal broke out, all you could hear about Ravi from his fans was "he is very knowledgeable, surely he can't say the things he says if he doesn't believe them to be true". Now, when you realize he actually didn't believe those things, you refuse to admit that, since he didn't believe those things, they might actually be NOT true (surely he couldn't do the horrible things he did if he believed them to be true), and this might be scary, so you choose to just ignore the issue. Perfect, indeed!

I love Josh McDowell. I'm in my 50s but when I was in my 20s I was in college. I had a public speaking course and I did a speech on the book Evidence that Demands a Verdict. I just remember after reading it how great it was to know that my faith isn't blind but is based on evidence. It really helped me. Later in life, I fell away and starting drinking. I came back again and am dedicated to Christ. I think having the foundation of having read things like Josh's book probably helped keep me from completely abandoning my faith. Sorry my comment isn't related to Ravi but I just felt inspired to share my love for Josh.. :)
When I hear rape described as "sexual misconduct" then it tells me that there is something wrong. Rape is nothing less than violent criminal activity which can totally ruin the victim's life. The term " sexual misconduct" is a slap in the face to any victim of rape.
Rape can be non-violent physically, but is is always emotionally violent and damaging. I think "sexual misconduct" is used as a broader term to encompass everything from watching porn to sending nude photos to saying crude things over the phone to inappropriate touching and so on.
All of these videos about this subject and I don't even 2% of these people would have had the back of any of the victims if it hadn't been for the Mea Culpa. It's revealing. And I've seen almost none who address that while talking about how it affects them.
@@getstartedwebsites I have experienced similar problems, not on this video. Many Christians with weak standards delete anything that would make them look bad.
It is extremely hard and it’s extremely important that wrong gets exposed. It was awful to watch some trying to salvage Ravi’s “ministry” empire as the most important thing for even a couple of years after Ravi’s death. This was a precious and transparent interview with these two men of God. Thank you Sean.

Same with every other job God gives us to do. Just as when a parent gives a job to a child, the parent needs the child to do his job. My teenage son and I enjoyed the radio ministry of Ravi. This was a way for us to grow together as we listened together. He was so thorough and intelligent, and passionate. I am glad for the reminder that the good news is that the Good News goes forward. Jesus is the Savior and God's word does not return void!
Videos like this one are needed for the healing of the Christian community. Thank You Jesus. Let us work out our salvation with fear and trembling ya'll.
I so appreciate both Josh and Sean, how gracious they are discussing something so tragic, painful and heartbreaking. My hope and prayer are for all his victims, especially Ravi’s wife, children, and those in his ministry that are just as shocked as so many of us were and still are. His victims were not only physically abused, but mentally, emotionally, and most tragically spiritually abused. It will take years of therapy for them to heal. I pray they turn to God for that healing and will be able to forgive him.
As an abuse survivor and abuse advocate, this was the best conversation I have ever heard on this matter. It is challenging to find ministries and preachers I can recommend that understand abuse from the victims viewpoint and leaders who have integrity and accountability. Thank you Josh for your transparency and your vulnerability with your story. Thank you both for your ministry and your obvious love for each other. Every survivor should watch this. Everyone in leadership should watch this. I will be profusely sharing this. God bless you both.
I cant see anywhere to make a direct comment on this video so here I am. Your abuser was not only a sinner, he was e.v.i.l. But you can be a sinner and NOT be evil. Therefore this👆🏻could not happen to a.n.y. of us. We are not all evil.
So many are forgetting that, and so many are twisting it to only mean that "anyone can be _victimized_ ," when the truth is that any one of us is capable of committing, *at any moment* , sin that is as devastating as what Ravi did--and MORE.
@@hotice8885 This is demonstrably false. Not all of us can do what Ravi did to those women. Not all of us can lie about our academic credentials to millions of people year in and year out for nearly half a century. This doesn't mean that we are without sin.
The notion that any of us could potentially rape a woman is utterly absurd. Surely, we've all fallen short of the glory of God. But that doesn't mean that all sins have an equal chance of manifesting in our lives.
@@AdamGeest , I don't know what your basis is for believing we all are not capable of committing sin on a level this serious and more, but Jeremiah 17:9 and all of Romans 7 (especially verse 18) make it clear that scripture says that we all have the same problem Ravi had. The only thing that would keep any of us from doing even worse is a dependence upon the Holy Spirit of God, _continually_ rooted in scripture.
@@James-nq8eh being a sexual sinner has actually always been a global sign of a global problem--a sin problem which was part of the reasons churches needed to exist in the first place. There are just people in every church who have not been _transformed by Jesus Christ_ , through the power of the story of His life, death and resurrection. Plenty of people know that story, and yet have still not given themselves to that POWER.
the Bible also says it’s okay to own and beat a slave, if he or she doesn’t die right away. In 2021, there are far better, and less damaging, sources of morals. Time to do away with religion, or at least quit giving them tax free status and acknowledging their damage to civilized society.
But Ravi's witness takes the salt out of the word that he preached. It's not that the word loses its power, but the likelihood of unbelievers or weak Christians not receiving that eternal word is increased. Remember, the Pharisees spoke the scriptures, but there was no power of the Spirit emanating from them. Lucifer knew and spoke scriptures, even to our Lord. But his spirit was wicked.
@@igotstaknow The first question is loaded. As for the second, churches in America yield and exert a lot of political influence, so there are separation issues at hand.
As a woman and a wife, I appreciate men that will not be alone with a woman. It not only affects your marriage, it affects other men and women. Other marriages and their children. Thank you.
As a single female , I have a rule never be alone with a married man, engaged man , or one that is dating . If I have to ask a married guy a question I make sure his wife is present , and I have her permission to first even ask that question , same with his girl friend, and betrothed . I make sure I'm in a group and pay more attention everyone else than a married , engaged and daring guy.
@DadisDad the idea is to avoid all appearances of evil. I respect the boundaries of relationships , and would rather be thought of as anti social than as flirting with a guy I have no business doing that with .
@DadisDad I like your answer especially that it comes from a man. Are we a generation of Christians lacking any self control to the point that a man can't stand being alone with a woman? And I'm not talking about alone in a bedroom here. What type of message are we sending to young Christian men? "Women will make you fall so avoid them?".
Well said. I also want to add, this should apply to all social media accounts. (not engaging in private conversations with women other then your wife, sister or mother.)
I'm deeply saddened by Ravi's sin. My faith isn't shaken, but my goodness, I spend so many hours on my commute listening to his messages, blessed by them. I'm sad for his family whom I'm sure they're especially hurt. Thank you two for your faith and helping us navigate these issues with grace. Soli Deo Gloria!
When one of my first pastors got arrested for sexual assault on young girls I was stopped when I wanted to throw away my notebook. I was told the Holy Spirit gave me those things to note, not the pastor. I did, however, throwaway all the tapes.
There are much better teachers. Ravi wasted way to much time telling stories, and bragging about his travels meeting big wigs of other countries. What are those big wigs thinking now? He hurt the church a lot more than helping it. Warren Weirsbe is a great teacher. Mike Winger on RUclips is good. BibleTrack.org is good. Chuck Swindol is good. This was so respectfully handled. Thank you for sharing your story of horrific abuse. Just breaks my heart that children have to endure and experience this terrible evil. Since the Ravi scandal broke I have been somewhat dumbfounded. My faith in the Lord is never shaken, but am so confused as to how easily I trusted this man. I honestly believed I was so much more discerning than this and it worries me how easily I may believe wrong teaching in the future. Especially in these times when we are warned about a great deception coming over the world.
All the advice is good. However, a deceptive person would not want to be so transparent, as in Ravi’s case. The fact is, if we are truly God fearing, then we should also know we cannot hide from God our innermost motives & thoughts. All the scandals Ravi committed, he has cautioned us not to do. He spoke with such conviction too. That’s bizarre & frightening. Like Josh, I would really like to know why he did what he did.
Good, so ravi was not that guilty as portrayed by the fools, He was married to these ladies as his secret wives and they agreed to the damn thing and when they wanted more and more and tried to some how black mail him he refused. And he was right, they agreed to be his secret wives by signing papers, but then they had something else in their mind so they turned against the very agreement of marriage they made. So who is guilty? According to the bible you can have more wives so that is not a sin. So he did not sin at all. It is so easy to fool the masses of religiouse people anywhere.
I have actually heard several very wise and biblical responses to this situation. Frank Turek of CrossExamined.org and Mike Winger of biblethinker.org are two. Both of these can be found here on RUclips.
It really helps to hear Ravi was the last person you expected this to happen to. Thank you for your sorrowful tone with realism that this could happen to anyone.
Agreed, Sue: It really was good medicine to hear him say all of that, and to express what he did. We are to weep with those who weep, rather than condemn along with those who condemn. Reproving deeds of darkness without guarding against our own fleshly attitudes (self-righteousness, arrogance, etc.) is a MUST.
Sean - Thank you for this interview with your Dad. It was excellent. My heart is broken for Ravi's wife and family . . . and these poor victims. The Bible says that David was a man after God's own heart and look what he did! Adultery, planned murder! I'm thankful the Bible is not sugar-coated but tells openly the sinfulness of man - and how we need to guard our hearts EVERY day! And - how we need to confront one another as brothers and sisters in Christ and speak up . . . and hopefully avoid falling into sin. I'm also SO very thankful for a forgiving, loving God. I really do believe that God took Ravi home early. The Bible talks about this.
Barbara, David didn't do that willful sin over decades, nor did he carve obscene images of many poverty stricken women, saying it was 'a godly gift for the Lord's servant' (per transcripts). Dont kid yourself, - 'Teacher's will be judged with a double portion' says the Lord of Hosts.
There is no such thing as a private moment, all is laid bare before the Holy eyes of God. He is our Audience of One. I'm so thankful for my husband who practiced the advice Josh gave.
Don’t be so quick to put your husband on a pedestal. Only God knows the heart of man. Most men fail when a pretty girl walks by. It’s not the second glance that snatches them into sin, it’s the internal thoughts, that a wife can’t hear.
@@michaelsolizjr5701 it's called bouncing the eyes. And while my husband is not on a pedestal he is a man who loves Christ deeply and loves me as Christ loves the church. The Lord used us almost divorcing to bring us to salvation, we value our marriage greatly and protect it so Christ is glorified. 42 years later he still makes my heartbeat quicken at the sound of his voice!
I just wanna say 2 things: 1) It's one of the most beautiful testimonies in the Church to see father and son like this. I think a lot of us envy you, Sean. Well, and your dad for having such God fearing son. 2) The telltale signs. I completely agree. I've seen so many leadership boards and meetings where you could taste the discomfort because of the leader's behavior, lifestyle or words, yet no one, not a single person stood up to confront them. I've been approached by a lot of these people sharing their concerns, yet even when I felt the need to stand up and confront these leaders, nobody had the courage and sincerity to stand with me. People take leadership positions super lightly and in my journey I've found a huge lack of accountability. I think it's very scary. Everyone is busy "building the Kingdom" with no time to invest in checking on people, neither to encourage nor to question. It saddens me a lot. The Lord bless and keep and multiply such godly men like you two. 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
I have many mistakes in my life, and one of them was to be in the car alone, and in the home alone, with our pretty young nanny. When our daughter was about 7 years old my wife (out of the blue!) asked for a divorce. She thought I was having a relationship with our nanny. I can understand why. I have feet of clay, but was I ever happy to tell her that I never touched the nanny with one finger. Please go downstairs and wake her up and ask her tight now. At times like this I was so glad that I stayed pure in this area. We're still together today, and the nanny is gone.
Thanks be unto God! 🙂 Thanks for sharing! 🙂 Truth is NOTHING AND NO ONE is worth breaking up a God ordained relationship over. God put you and your wife together for life. Not you and the nanny. (Nothing against her.) God kept you and you did the right thing dismissing the nanny. 🙂
Dear Josh, that you have risen above the terrible sexual abuse you experienced and done what you've done with your life is such an inspiration and encouragement to people. God bless you greatly.
Ravi meant so much to millions of people. What he did deeply crushed our hearts. I am grateful Josh McDowell has brought some comfort as we try to find healing for our wounds.
From Montana and I have considered it great joy to be able to follow both of these men (apologists) in their ministry. I have seen them both, had the extreme privilege of chatting with them, read and listened as a shark follows a blood trail. Having said this, I gained such an appreciation for the McDowell's (both father and son) for sharing this and answering questions that have bothered me. The standout remark made by Brother Josh had to be that "God does not need us... He desires us". Thank you for this presentation.
I never heard of Josh McDowell until I watched this video for the very first time. His message is full of wisdom. I would sit for hours just to listen to him. While I feel deeply sad about the truth on Ravi Z, I feel hopeful after hearing what he has said here. God bless him! 👍♥️

“I’ll pray, you pay!” Spoken like a true road warrior. I spent nearly 20 years traveling as a singer/songwriting hocking my wares and singing my songs in universities, churches, and coffee houses for whatever folks could afford to pay! In all seriousness, I read Josh McDowell books and attended his engagements in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Thanks for getting your dad’s take on the tragedy of one of his contemporaries. That’s a tough subject to deal with, but you all addressed it appropriately and many others can benefit from the call that was heeded. Keep up the great work🤘
The amount of love, compassion, sympathy, and respect that your dad has towards victims in general is beyond what I have seen and shocks me. Truly honoring towards Christ.

I am a medical doctor, but I don't like people calling me doctor. I want to be known for who I am, not what I do. The Lord gave me the call and ability to be a doctor and the glory goes to Him. I met Josh years ago and found him to be one of the most genuine people I know.
Kenneth i love this, it shows humility. I honestly find it amusing when Dr's request to be called such as though they need confirmation of their degree. In any case, the thought has seriously crossed my mind, would i ask people to address me as Dr if I had the degree? A resounding "no".
"Ravi Zacharias didn't save you, Jesus did. Ultimately, you grew through Christ" -J. McDowell This is probably the most impactful statement in this video for me. Ravi was a large part of my understanding and development of my faith in Christ. I had so many questions and he always pointed me to Jesus in the most profound way. But he was a man, and a deeply flawed, troubled man at that. Though he so elequently pointed to The Truth in his books and lectures, he is certainly not the only one. I can not bring myself to continue to utilize his resources in my studies. His lies and extreme sexual immorality have tarnished that beyond repair. So incredibly sad. Praying for his victims, his family, and praying that he sought forgiveness for his sins. ❤️
I think you meant to say: “... HOPING that he sought forgiveness...” it’s kinda late, to pray for that☝🏽Now... I too, am praying for his family and victims... “Truth is truth, no matter who says it!” Thanks for your insight, and faithfulness, brother McDowel!❤️

I was raised in a Christian home and went to church claiming to be saved yet lived a terrible wicked life for over 20 years. I only came to true repentance with godly sorrow two years ago some people would say i was not worthy of forgiveness because i lived a double life so long. Well in a way it wasnt double because people knew i was being immoral.

Who are you serving?.... I repent of my judging thoughts.. but I discern and humble my self daily to be lead by the Holy Spirit in Spirit and in true!
Serah Lee, thst is not a Scriptural statement, nowhere does the word of God says, He desires us, that is just man made stuff to feed our self love, and so called self esteem. But i tell you what God does desire, He seeks true worshipers and the only worship that is acceptable to God is when we worship in spirit and in truth. Worshiping in spirit is a matter of the heart, not external actions and is grounded and directed by truth. What God desires from us is obedience, He actually commands obedience from His children. Something today's so called Christians rebell against it, and embrace cheap grace of their own making, because according to the word of God, the true grace of God teaches us to deny ungodliness and wordly desires and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age. Titus 2:11-12. We are in the truth war, You better study the Scripture 2 Tim. 2:15, Submit to the Holy Spirit and walk in Him Galatians 5:16, or you will surely be deceived and you will be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine Ephesians 4:14. You must know that it is by God's Holy Spirit and not by our power that we obey God's word and walk in His truth. The Devil fears nothing but God and His word of truth. He runs from the truth because he is a father of lies, and there is no truth in him, he literally can't stand the truth because he has no power over it whatsoever. The only reason he is so successful in tripping and deceiving many, so called Christians today is, because they are literally ignorant what God's word says pretty much about everything. False teachers are everywhere and they are literally Satan's ministers of light, 2 Corinthians 11:14, they are disguisesd as ministers of righteousness by twisting the word of God just like the devil always does and has done from the beginning in the garden of Eden when he deceived Eve, and Adam disobeyed God and they fell and sinned against God, and the LORD had to curse the whole human race and the Universe He created. Jesus Christ through the death of His cross and resurrection has FINISHED the will of God and His plan of redemption for those who believe trust in Him, and submit to Him as their Lord and Savior, and the Lord also dethroned the usurper of the earth, the devil himself. The Lord is sooner than later going to come back to earth and claim what is rightfully His. Even so come Lord Jesus, Amen.

Thank you Josh and Sean for this conversation.I am with the Nazarene Church and I saw all these those precautions that you mentioned and my husband and I have been together for 45 years and committed our marriage to God because it really can happen to anyone regardless.God Bless you both.
Josh McDowell has certainly helped me in my walk with Christ. The last couple of years, I tuned in to Ravi Zacharias here on RUclips. I found him to be fresh air. The revelations have been painful, but the pain I feel is for his victims and the damage done to young christians who were drawn to Christ by his ministry. Thanks for this video.
Actually Jesus says "by their fruits shall ye know them" (Matthew 7) and that deeds begin in the heart (Matthew 5, 12 & 15) so yep, those of us with the Holy Spirit indwelling certainly CAN know their hearts. But narcissists, predators and abusers (and even murderers in some cases) aren't noticed in churches (and are even given positions) precisely because of unbelief in Jesus's clear warnings about false brethren and false teachers (the warnings are actually all over Paul's letters, Acts and the other epistles) and because they are carnal and deny and reject the Holy Spirit. They reap what they sow i.e they get what they deserve. I just feel angry for the innocent victims. Abusers AND their enablers (the ones who say "oh we had no idea. Only God knows the heart") are EQUALLY to blame
Sean - Thank you for this interview with your Dad. It was excellent. Thanks for great advise for Christian business people, very much appreciated. May God bless each of you !
I have long found Ravi's preaching was very articulated and philosophical but not spiritual. That was why I stop listening to his preaching after a few times.
Exactly! He did a lot of story telling, jokes, and prideful telling of where he got to go and the big wigs he got to wine and dine with. No good expository teaching. How are so many of these leaders not seeing that!
I looked up to Ravi and learned a lot from his books, preaching and presentations. Amazing insights, a great communicator and philosopher who helped me with many of my doubts/questions as a young, maturing Christian. As a matter of fact, I was distraught to learn he had cancer and was essentially on his death bed, and was upset and mad God allowed it. Cried out to God on Ravi's behalf. At the time, from my standpoint, here was a man who sacrificed so much with his time and relationships with family to serve God all over the world and was in harm's way on many occasions....totally sold out to Christ. Then the truth of Ravi's sin and failures came to light and God taught me a number of good lessons (some covered by the McDowell's): 1. God knows all, God is Holy, God will make all things right, God is worthy of our trust: we don't, can't, and aren't 2. God uses sinful man to do His work and accomplish His will (one of His greatest miracles): Ravi was guilty of grevious sins, but we all sin as Christians. Not an excuse, but a reminder that we need to be humble, gracious and kind as we reflect on Ravi's life, legacy, family, and many others who've fallen so greatly. Flip side, don't wait to serve God until you're perfect, won't happen this side of heaven. 3. Accountability, and checks and balances are needed and should be welcomed to help prevent unhealthy lives, relationships, and ministries so we don't ultimately don't misrepresent Jesus and comprise our testimony of Jesus. 4. We have an enemy who wants to kill, steal, and destroy and he has a whole army working against Jesus and His followers: we need to keep our relationship with Jesus and each other as strong as possible, in Him, we have the victory. Again, stay humble and be gracious and help each other out when failures come. 5. Don't fall for the "cult of personality" where individuals are put on a pedestal and portrayed as if they can do no wrong and we become their "fans" and "followers" and all that entails (idol worship): besides being sinful, they're not worthy and we'll be disappointed. This seems to be a common strategy of the enemy that can do a lot of damage to the idol and the worshipper. Thanks McDowells for all you do to help the body of Christ! I appreciate your videos and still use the New Evidence that Demands a Verdict, another book that was instrumental to helping me thru questions/doubts.
I may be late. It really hurts as to what had happened. Let me give my firsthand experience and what happened. First, I really like Sean and Josh, they've been like the best role models for me. I am hoping that one day, my family would see light like I have. When Sean and Josh went to Manila, I really went to the conference and wrote almost every pointers they gave. So with the topic. My first hand experience was my father. He was a pastor and showed me how to read the bible correctly, taught me a lot of parables and all. He was a great pastor. We even went to the Middle East as a family to build a church there. I will not disclose where, but it is still there. My father fell to adultery. When that happened, I back slided. I became agnostic. I hated the ministry. Because it wasn't just the family that was broken, my faith slowly was broken, then we realised I can't finish the university too, during that year, 2011, I severed myself from my Christian friends. I started to do all kinds of stuff. I was depressed and every time I'm reminded of God, I would curse Him. Cutting the story short, I started working as an undergraduate student. Met a lot of people who led me more to sin. But there was this one moment I saw Sean on youtube around 2017. It was a message for people who has a broken family. I slowly understood it. But I still continued on my sins. It was kind of a turning point too! I started checking out other religions and sectors. Cutting it short again, 2018, I met someone whom I was inviting over to drink and fool around, she instead invited me to church. I realised myself that I was just scared to face God to have Him say that I was wrong the whole time. And now, I'm back. I'm singing with a choir in our local church. I have this urge to lead people too. It's true that if God wants you back, He will get you back. I was wrong the whole time. I hope, for those who were relying financially from Ravi's Ministry, and was looking up to Ravi, snap out of their misery if they were. God uses all opportunities to teach us. He can even let a rock preach the gospel if He wanted too. Let's look to Christ, not the messenger. Always remember, Christ saved us, not the messenger. Up till present, my father hasn't repented, he won't apologise too. The Bible taught me not to dwell in it. God taught me a lot of things when I was lost. Right now, all I can say is I love God. P.S. I may be a gaming channel, but I'm thinking of changing it to my personal channel posting things that is for the Kingdom of God.
Hi John. It may be that your Dad (in all due respect) never had a heartbroken repentance when he first came to Christ. Many of us who call ourselves "Christian" have never had a truly godly sorrow over our sins, sad to say. Let's pray that your Dad will come to that place. 2 Timothy 2:24-26 24. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25. In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26. And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will. Glad God got ahold of you and turned you around. 🙂
Sean, I love your dad! When I was in a Christian high school in Phoenix in the 80s, I was privileged to hear your dad speak in chapel 2 or 3 times. I still remember it because it was so good! I'm so thankful for the influence he's had in our world all these years and glad to see you have followed in his footsteps. Thank you for getting his perspective on this issue. May God continue to bless you both!
During my graduation at Dallas Theological Seminary in 2005, Dr. Josh McDowell was the speaker. I expected him to speak on 'Apologetics', but, he spoke on 'family'.
@@theelizabethan1 Correct but that is what he tried to do because there are people who believes in different teaching that you can get married to more than wife. That is the reason he did not go to young prostitute abroad secretly if he wanted sex so bad. He wanted to make it legal in his own head so this way he can live with himself. He justified it to himsel not to feel guilty. If he was after sex the wrong way like people are assuming sure, he would have done that young girsl as young as 18 in prostitute houses or places and no one would have known about it. But he tried to make sure that he does not feel guilty so he did the old testament or Islamic sort of way. There are people like me who believes that you can have more than one wife if you do not divorce the first one. He was simply a man like me and others but I wont do that , I did tell my wife and she laughs but of course I cannot find any otherwise I will marry in the open but I cannot find and my Wife knows however, ravi just could not say that in the open because he thought his ministry will be gone so he tried it the Muslim or the Jewis sort of way but in secret . For me I will do it on broad day light and people can take pictures as well ha ha ha.
I hope Pastors and other church leaders would have a chance to listen to this conversation. There’s so much wisdom to learn from Pstr Josh Dowell. God bless you both, father and son.
I am so thankful that you interviewed your Dad. Great interview. I am 76 & enjoyed every teaching of Ravi & was so shaken by what he did, it was very interesting to hear your Dad's thoughts on the matter. I cannot imagine the hell that his family went through possibly still going through same for all his victims.
Josh and Sean, thank you for your honesty and insight. So many I’ve heard didn’t actually know Ravi. I know this was very difficult for you, but I am grateful.
The accusations are false and the organization sold Ravi out for the organizations interest and funding, his son has gone public exposing the truth. There’s not a single shred of evidence against Ravi. The women have been known to do these false accusations to past pastors
With much respect to Josh (and Billy G), whom I have learnt from, I think naming a ministry after one gifted leader is an especially American thing - a cultural blind-spot. Wish we could learn from people like John Stott.
Giving no appearance of evil is important and very difficult at times in this dark world ..be humble enough to always keep your intimacy with Jesus only.
Such a heart-warming, thought-provoking, dynamic, and honest conversation. Love the father-and-son talk on sensitive issues! We need to hear this. Thank you for sharing!
There were some red flags but people close to him were rebuffed by Ravi for raising concerns. Although the depth of his deception was never even dreamed of. Ravi has to face the music now; there's no hiding from God. Many people are reeling from this but none more than his family and victims. Tragic.
@@jeff7888 Presumably he has received thousands of letters over the years, testifying to that fact. Why would you accuse a man when you don’t know all the facts? Do you always assume the worst about people you don’t know?!
@@jeff7888 , oh yes you are being negative, and that saying that thousands believe, since he ministered to thousands of people over the years it's just an educated guess, Let It Go mr. Judge.
@@jeff7888 it's really strange how you attack a man who has been asked a question and just gives his opinion to answer. He's not on trial, he hasn't done anything wrong, why are you pointing out that is a big fault of him to say thousands have been saved through his ministry. Just knowing of his ministry I say the same thing.
Once when I was praying through being disappointed by some people who had taught me most of what I know, the Lord said to me clearly, "The truth of a lesson does not depend on the teacher's ability to carry it out." I think that may be helpful for people suffering from this revelation of Ravi's sin.
As a Christian I have failed probably in ways I don't even know. Our sin nature is so deep and deceptive that we seem to be able to justify anything. What happened is a warning to us all. I have read East to West and believe that Ravi is with the Lord.
Having seen a lot of Ravi's presentations on youtube and read books, I conclude there is a danger in focusing too much on apologetics. The risk is to turn faith into an intellectual exercise that may no longer touch the heart. If all you talk about is evidence for the existence of God, or that the resurrection really happened, you may neglect the spiritual significance. You may start to neglect that it's all about the Kingdom of God and Christ saving people, so they can repent, be born again, sanctified, be part of the Kingdom and live a holy life worshipping God. Apologetics is good as a starting point to shake the strong hold of reasoning in people's minds, who think science has made God irrelevant at best or even proved He doesn't exist. But that doesn't save them. Only Jesus can save them. That's why I'm so happy with the last chapter of Josh McDowell's book "More than a carpenter", where he gives his personal testimony of how God changed his life. After presenting all those facts and evidence, that is what it's all about.
I'm going to say I have to disagree. Sometimes people need alot of solid evidence, ESPECIALLY in our culture today. Even more than that, the way people are asking questions today, Christians need to know their stuff. The more evidence the better. We are called to be ready always to give a reason for our hope. Christian faith is built on both faith AND reason.
Thank you Sean. This is by far the best discussion on this tragic event. A balanced and thoughtful conversation about Ravi Zacharias. May the new discoveries and openness from RZIM start to bring healing to the victims.
. In 2021, there are far better, and less damaging, sources of morals. Time to do away with religion, or at least quit giving them tax free status and acknowledging their damage to civilized society.
“Unto you therefore which believe he is precious; but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, and a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient.” - 1 Peter ii. 7, 8.

This was far from being a thoughtful conversation it was irresponsible and to me I think it comes from a Side of envy they said all this without any evidence at all. I remember meeting your dad Josh on a cruise with my wife (it was a Christian cruise many years ago). Josh was one of the speakers. He invited us to sit at his table for a few minutes and we spoke about some pretty legit stuff concerning some "dad issues". He had some great wisdom, insight, and advice.
I attended a church where, ultimately, the Pastor and Sr. staff had set themselves up to have zero accountability. The deacons were stripped of any usefulness whatsoever. I found it dangerous. My current church has an eldership and the Pastor has an accountability partner, as well as others. The elders also are in contact with each other and the deacons for prayer, etc. I pray that we will be able to help one another if any of us stumbles. I was deeply hurt, angered, appalled and anguished at what Ravi did. I struggled with how he could be so deceitful and yet be such a good apologist and speak so lovingly about Jesus and the Gospel. He didn't fall into sin, he walked in it for years and pursued it. He relished in it. I anguished because of the people who's faith has been shaken, the counter-arguments that atheists and humanists will make now because of Ravi's duality. I feel for his victims, his family and the victim who Ravi sued and vilified knowing he was lying and sinning against her. He destroyed her and her family's life and her faith. She is still not allowed to speak the truth. She needs voice. We must stop putting people on a pedestal.
He can not be a good apologist because he is a Protestant. Protestantism was invented by Martin Luther. Like St. Paul said it is another Gospels. It is anti Christ and Church Christ founded on Peter the Rock(Matthew 16).
@@danpan001 The church is founded upon Jesus. No one else. It does not matter what denomination you are as long as you accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour.

Many people don't have a answer on this verset.
@@sica4you , a look at who the Bible says you are to trust answers that question just fine. Not only does it constantly tell us to trust in the Lord, believe GOD, etc. But it also constantly warns us against putting any confidence in flesh and blood, including both men and beast. The purpose of the church is to grow people who have been justified by believing on Jesus sacrifice at the cross, equipping them to have their minds renewed day-by-day, even though our bodies are decaying day-by-day. As we do that the degree to which we have been renewed by the Holy Spirit will cause us to shine brighter as an example of God's power to change a life after he has saved it. Then, the church will achieve their final purpose--which is to point other lost and hell bound people to the cross of Jesus Christ so that they may _also_ be saved from eternal separation.
@Patrick Skywalker you clearly do not understand the accent near east culture name is synonymous with nature. “Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.” Every sin is an inside job. Thank you for this! I was a RZ fan who was devastated especially for his family. This incident shows us to keep our eyes and heart devoted to Jesus alone, not on anyone else. How about a good lesson to leave this hypocritical religion.
18:03 - Spot on, Josh! If a Christian leader falling into sin shakes your faith, then your faith was in the wrong thing all along.
That's why we always have Christ in us, Jesus, Holy Spirit, man will have their faults, as will the Mcdowells.
He also speaks of lifting your cross and following Him, and that no-one can come to Jesus unless the Father enables him (Jn 6:65)
My point is that we should be very careful about what a person preaches and their MOTIVE.
Never put anyone on a pedestal. Stay ever so close to Jesus. We must pray for protection constantly from the enemy. Stay so close to Jesus.

“Ravi Zacharias did not save you, Jesus did” - perfect.
I love Josh McDowell. I'm in my 50s but when I was in my 20s I was in college. I had a public speaking course and I did a speech on the book Evidence that Demands a Verdict. When I hear rape described as "sexual misconduct" then it tells me that there is something wrong. Rape is nothing less than violent criminal activity which can totally ruin the victim's life. The term " sexual misconduct" is a slap in the face to any victim of rape.
I've been trying to post things and point that out. they deleted my first post let's see if they delete my second one I just left.
Rape can be non-violent physically, but is is always emotionally violent and damaging. I think "sexual misconduct" is used as a broader term to encompass everything from watching porn to sending nude photos to saying crude things over the phone to inappropriate touching and so on.
The Ravi foundation should be shut down and all of the money go to serve victims of religion.
All of these videos about this subject and I don't even 2% of these people would have had the back of any of the victims if it hadn't been for the Mea Culpa.

God CAN do anything. But He limits himself by His promises, and by His word.
God created us with responsibilities. He gave Adam and Eve the job of subduing nature. God's not going to do mankind's job. Nature runs amok not because of God, but because of mankind. God "needs" us to step up and do our job. He's not going to step in and do what He gave us to do.
Same with every other job God gives us to do. Just as when a parent gives a job to a child, the parent needs the child to do his job. Not because the parent couldn't do it, but the parent's job is to train the child, and if the child refuses to comply, the parent can't get that job done.

You survived abuse and now advocate it?
Sin is all evil of any kind to any degree. We all still harbor some degree of evil until we are made perfectly good in Christ.
"It can happen to any one" is the caution for every one

As a woman and a wife, I appreciate men that will not be alone with a woman. It not only affects your marriage, it affects other men and women. Other marriages and their children. Thank you.
What about women who don't stay around men ?

I love the comment, but I don't believe Ravi is home. He made his choices.
If Ravi repented and turned from the said sin, then Ravi is home with the Father.
Ravi was a predictor. RZIM on a public comment said Ravi maintained he was innocent until the day he died. He did not repent, David did .
David didn't live in the same sin over and over. He admitted what he did.
Love the gentleness & wisdom in which Sean & Josh have handled this dialogue. To fear God & shun evil is what I have learnt. God is watching!

Be careful unless you have walked in his shoes you are passing judgement God is the God of all we will be trying to pass your opinion on all and can hurt more people you are not perfect
U may turn people away from by even passing gossip God hates gossip this is not rocking my faith God will judge all even people who claim perfection
People can pretend to be who they r not
Only God knows the heart
Blessings AMEN and AMEN ❤🙏❤
“If you’re standing watch out because you can fall as well!”
Dr McDowell has been encouraging throughout this video/interview to live integrity!

Awe I love them both, what a gentle spirit. I miss my dad listening to Josh. He is funny and humble.
Ive been reading your father for decades this was a beautiful video, thank you for sharing your dad with us.❤️🙏
Sean - Thank you for this interview with your Dad. It was excellent. Thanks for great advise for Christian business people, very much appreciated. May God bless each of you !
I have long found Ravi's preaching was very articulated and philosophical but not spiritual. That was why I stop listening to his preaching after a few times.
He said a whole lot snd nothing at all
Exactly! He did a lot of story telling, jokes, and prideful telling of where he got to go and the big wigs he got to wine and dine with. No good expository teaching. How are so many of these leaders not seeing that!
Partly true, but wouldn't go quite that far as to say not spiritual!!
Yeah. He did not use enough Bible in his preaching. He mostly used philosophers and other books.
Same thing happened to me. I was never quit sure why he started to sound redundant.
Then the truth of Ravi's sin and failures came to light and God taught me a number of good lessons (some covered by the McDowell's):
1. God knows all, God is Holy, God will make all things right, God is worthy of our trust: we don't, can't, and aren't
2 Timothy 2:24-26
24. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
25. In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
@@MotherRussiaisforever you are a liar.
@@MotherRussiaisforever as christians we don't have secret wife's.
@@MotherRussiaisforever What you're describing is Islamic "marriage," not Christian marriage.
Josh McDowell has been a major foundational part of my faith in Jesus Christ. Thanks Josh
Mine is Dr Peter S Ruckman ( 1921-2016 )
Best reflection on that matter. I really admire Josh McDowell. His heart is in the right place. I love his books. Glory to God.
Wish we could learn from people like John Stott.
good observation
Jacob Cherian this is a very key point.:)
I agree. His ministry has always been a team effort. My brother worked for him.
Though he is known for Josh McDowell ministries, his ministry is part of Campus Crusade for Christ International.
Totally agree.
Dear Josh Mcdowell , you set the bar high, sir. much respect to you. "More Than A Carpenter" great scholarly book.
Thank you, so much. This has really helped me. It’s so unfathomable, just hearing you both talk it out has helped me process the facts.
There were some red flags but people close to him were rebuffed by Ravi for raising concerns. Although the depth of his deception was never even dreamed of. Ravi has to face the music now; there's no hiding from God. Many people are reeling from this but none more than his family and victims. Tragic.
I suspect many women came forward. He could not have gone on that long without enablers. The Church tends to deify men and worship their gifts.
How do you know thousands believed because of you. Can you see the heart? I'm not being negative but that is some boast.
Thank you for your wisdom Josh McDowell. God Bless you, your son Sean, and your family. 🙏
Once when I was praying through being disappointed by some people who had taught me most of what I know, the Lord said to me clearly, "The truth of a lesson does not depend on the teacher's ability to carry it out." I think that may be helpful for people suffering from this revelation of Ravi's sin.
Don’t blame Jesus for man’s failings.
@@melissaculpepper7663 That’s right
Whoa Josh sir ... @ 19:53 what a sharp insightful scary truth : " THE PERSON WHO COULD BE MOST DECEIEVED IS YOURSELF ... "
Thank you Josh for not compromise by not going to conference
As a Christian I have failed probably in ways I don't even know. Our sin nature is so deep and deceptive that we seem to be able to justify anything. What happened is a warning to us all. I have read East to West and believe that Ravi is with the Lord.
Our hearts hurt for his family! Praying for them! Thank you both for your words if encouragement! God bless!🙏🏼❣️
This is so insightful. It is so lovely to see your relationship with your dad, Sean. It is beautiful.
This!!!
@@joannaflowers5563 yes that's why I watch these YTs from various apologists and pastors to disciple me! I don't get much disciplship.
@@waltercarrillo7381 thank you. Do you know who said that, and how do you know it? Was it God? Jesus of Nazareth? A myth?

This was far from being a thoughtful conversation it was irresponsible and to me I think it comes from a Side of envy they said all this without any evidence at all. There’s not a single shred of evidence against Ravi. The women have been known to do these false accusations to past pastors

Lol, I love Jesus. Beware of everything else.

What a blessing to hear Josh McDowell again! My first job out of high school was with Campus Crusade in 1974, which is where I learned of you and your ministry. Wonderful words of wisdom!
This is what the Lord says:
“Cursed is the one who trusts in man,
who draws strength from mere flesh
and whose heart turns away from the Lord.

Why then is the church purpose? . If I can not trust my broter in Christ??? Yes church people are double faces and make small groups of interest among theself.. I am not going to any church and did not attend much before.. I prefer see people preaching on Interernet...But question still is Valid... Trust in who on this world.. Or suspect anyone...

Thus Jacob's name (western culture) is, trickster because he grabbed his brother's heel at birth, read what he did to his uncle and brother he was a shady guy by nature. Moses couldn't reveal the Lord's nature because men can't fully understand it, only the Lord can reveal His nature to men.
