- The OM is in effect tuned down from the standard GDAE to F# C# G# C# and a capo is placed on the first fret, in order to a) reduce the scale length by about an inch (21” ish to 20” ish) to make it easier for me to play in terms of reach, and b) to get the GDAD tuning used on Irish Bouzoukis.
We are new to your channel. Love the sound of the Octave Mandolin.

Lovely...learning it now with you! Thx so much for this version.
Thank you. What instrument are you playing along with?
Very nice, John. I like the combination of chords and dbl stops with the melody - and a bit of picking too - excellent.
Thanks for listening and commenting, Ginny. I hope you are in good health, that all is good with the dog, and that you are managing to play the mando often enough to maintain your playing level.
@@johnwilliamson6846 Thanks John, We are in the middle of a big move and bewteen the sale of the house, the purchase of the new house and all this packing !! I hope to be back and running but not for a while. It takes a village to get Internet where we are going, so we will see. But yes, still playing lots ! Keeps me sane.
Amazing mandolin playing

Thanks for listening and commenting, glad you enjoyed it. The Octave Mandola is made by luthier Ivor Pickard, see website…www.pickardacoustics.com/
I think a pdf version of the tabs, which look similar to what I used, is available at domriviere.over-blog.com/article-tablature-irish-bouzouki-44646723.html
Keep practicing/playing…and enjoy.
What tuning? GDAE?
Basically, the tuning I used was GDAD…but this arrangement can be played using GDAE tuning. Good luck 👍
Who made your OM?
Ivor Pickard: www.pickardacoustics.com/ Mine is what was the OM C Basic: www.pickardacoustics.com/pricelistM.html (though the prices might be out of date…). Details of specs are on the website.
Thanks! checking the website now.
