Ren has got many of us interacting and working together "across the aisle" of political division. His discord involves people from all political viewpoints teaming up and finding mutual ground. We're all human and have common ground, and have more in common than what divides us.
Man you helped me, your comments are so well thought through and your interaction always lovely. Sending you all the love and best wishes, and for your wife and kids, and we love your work xxx

It's nice not being in an echo chamber. Technically my views are left wing, but I don't agree with all left viewpoints. I'd be outed by the left for some of my values and beliefs. There's no black and white only shades of grey xx

American way of thinking just baffles me sometimes. People are so afraid of taxes. And they tend to only be scared of the government when it suits their narrative.

@@mcflyjp I can think of 1% of the population who are scared of taxes, and have a large desire to sow disinformation FUD campaigns. It would be interesting if the top 1% paid the same tax rate as the other 99% of the population, but seems only plebs actually pay taxes and the ultra-wealthy will do anything to avoid.

You can't go through MG without being political 😂
It's interesting to think about how US politics are left vs right, and then compare that to for example Iceland, the US left is a lot further to the right than the Icelandic left. But this is all just a money game in the end, isn't it though? Those who are in power will do anything they can, to stay in power and media is a very powerful tool to occupy our mind, to distract us, like Ren actually points out very clearly in his diss rap on King Dotta, they make money off of peopke being divided. And all of this is possible because of the fear of the unknown - we, humans, categorize everything unconsciously. It's just a part of the human psyche. And those who want to stay in power use that by putting us in groups - us vs them. Anyone can be put in the "them" category. We fear that and we will do whatever we can to stay in the "us" category.
Equal education is so very important in this matter, because the more we educate ourselves, the more we realize we are more alike than not.
I hope my comment makes sense and is not just a bunch of half thought out sentences, I have a migraine attack going on right now and I have no idea if I am making any sense.

I come from Denmark, supposedly the least corrupt country in the world, and even here, we are experiencing major changes and issues right now. Racism is spreading. We have a case where a Syrian refugee family was being harassed by the police. One late evening, the uncle and young brothers were pulled over without reason. That night, a 15-year-old brother vanished after the police were the last to see him. He has been gone a year and a half, with no answers and no repercussions from the police. I think your analysis is bang on, although #10 Downing St. is the official residence of the Prime Minister. And I also think the courage you've shown with opening up has helped more folks than you know. I have to ask: the portrait in the background (over your right shoulder)- is that Golgo 13? Right and left are not helpful terms. Those were an invention of the French King when he asked members of the Estates General to sit based on ideology.
As for the rest, yeah, it sure seems like we're all kept divided and fighting and always have been. Alexis de Tocqueville wrote a very prescient and powerful work called: Democracy in America (or maybe it was On American Democracy), anyway, his premise was that an informed electorate is critical to the survival of a republic.

10 downing street is basically our whitehouse - tho its just a fairly regular terraced house lol. And several houses around it are like where the chancellor of the exchequer lives- and the end of the road does have a big iron gate across it- so there is security.
p.s greatr breakdown- but i do think perhaps (and im not just talking ren) you should let your songs play through with minimal pauses - THEN rewind to the begining and go through with pauses. It would barely be any longer because its the 2nd part that takes most of the time - but it would let you hear the music as a more coherant song rather than the lines one by one? At least for anything you do where you expect to have a long in depth breakdown of lyrics - its not needed for more straightforward stuff.

Just to get clear on the difference between right and left, because I do think there’s a tremendous amount of misunderstanding here, the major difference is that the left historicizes whereas the right naturalizes.
In looking at a particular problem, a leftist wants to analyze the material, historical conductions that created it whereas the right will say “it is what it is”
Of course there are tremendous differences between how we view hierarchies and economic prescriptions but essentially it comes down to what I just stated, and the rest flows from there. It isn’t so much communism vs fascism as it is whether or not we essentialize a problem as endemic to the human condition or whether we see a problem as the byproduct of human actions

In fact I think the party system is absolutely useless considering it's just become a way to divide us during voting season.

instead of saying you wanna get paid more because you work more one could also assume that equal paid money to all would cause everyone to adapt to a certain workload what would possibly cause less greed because no one could get paid more so greed becomes useless or senseless, sort of. and if you would work more because you really love what you do then it possibly wouldn’t bother you because you are happy with what you are doing no matter how much you earn. that may work only if it is very clear that there‘s no additional money for anyone. politicians, managers and presidents included naturally so everyone can be sure that there’s no reason for people to have any financial advantage. you can be sure then that only the right people with the right character would sit up there and condone those corruption-prone jobs for the right reasons. a possible vision for a better world? the rules would have to be strongly observed for that i guess.

I don't have trust in the human race for this to work. I also think that that is essentially communism. People should be rewarded for hard work. Most people will realize it wont matter how hard they work if they get paid the same regardless.

@@mcflyjp i know that you americans have some issues with communism. you seem to suspect every little political decision towards a social state being communism. but as an austrian who’s been raised in a democratic country with a good social system next to the border of the back then communist czechoslovakia let me tell you that not every social invention is to be seen as communism. i‘m not a fan of communism as it‘s been realised as well but that doesn‘t mean that certain aspects of the original idea are bad. however, i regard the idea of equal paid money absolutely not as communism but as means for a better quality of life. if you say people will realize it won‘t matter how hard they work when all get the same out of it then i would say it would cause reduction of greed and related issues and much more people would do what they always wanted to do in life because money as the only motivation makes you wanting more of it regardless if you like the work that earns you the money. hence you can’t get satisfaction in the long term. there simply is never enough if that‘s one‘s attitude. money as the one and only motivation for work always breeds problems, be it in your private life having no time with your family, your truncated social life with real friends and other people, with destroying the natural environment which we all need or like finding yourself in some work you‘ve never wanted to do. i don’t say you need no money. of course you need some for a decent life but if it is your only intention it‘s like you’re a dog who only sees the bone not ever thinking of something else always chasing. that all said i‘m not sure whether that could work just as you but society at least should try something to overcome increasing egoism. l‘m sure though that trump wouldn‘t ever solve any real problem.

@@mcflyjp yes I suppose the dependency of government is technically false but in a practical sense it really is not, if a community depends on regulatory and controlled systems to put food in shops and for one reason or another be it food is too expensive or farmers are forced to kill their livestock to save the environment or many other possible things, it will lead to obvious very bad situations. its not like we can just go were we like and grow crops and raise animals when so many people are crammed into concrete jungles and most of the land is owned by a very small group of people.

The political systems have evolved (corrupted?) over time to become more and more dysfunctional. Voting for one party or another is rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic (although…certain choices are like opening the bulk heads to speed up the sinking process…but the point is, it’s not going to solve the looming disaster).
While the political system is driven by money (the money game), then the only winner will be…money. People are driven by money, they serve money, they use money to make money, they corrupt other people to make them money, they exploit people to make more money.
Money should be a tool, not a goal. It should not have any role to play in the political process.
If politicians had limits to what could be spent on campaigning and if that was allocated to them once they demonstrated having a minimum of support (ie they are lent the money to campaign but they have to pay it back if they get less than say 5% of the vote), then you immediately remove money corrupting the politicians.
Politicians should be unable to use their political office for their personal gain. Any decision which may personally benefit them (financially) they should be forced to recuse themselves from voting on.
All these things are fixable…but not while people allow themselves to be divided through “fickle shit” as Ren puts it.
That said - I do not think all politicians are cut from the same cloth. There are some who are driven by a sense of purpose to do something they believe is for the good of the country. They believe passionately in what they stand for, and being able to spot that difference should be the first step towards fixing the system.
If people write off all politicians as corrupt and selfish, and disengage in the political processes, then the corrupt are the only ones who will gain power, and down the spiral we go (as many great empires have done through history).
We may disagree with a politician on some aspects, but if they are genuine and not in it for themselves, give them some support - but make sure they know that the priority needs to be reform of the political system itself. If we can get enough people in positions of influence to start making that political reform happen, we can turn this ship around yet.
Now - you mentioned not knowing what a certain persons motives were for their policies while they were President? I would encourage people to listen to his own words on that - in an interview with Howard Stern years before he ran for office, he boasted that if he ever did run for President, he would not only make sure he profited from it (and anyone who didn’t, was dumb), but that he would also use his position to get revenge on anyone who had ever crossed him. He said similar things in the presidential debates and his campaign for election. He said similar things while in office. I don’t think we need to look beyond his own boasts and promises to know what his intent was while in office. And someone who steals extremely sensitive state secrets, who knows those secrets would be worth BILLIONS to the right people, is not really leaving much room to question their motives.
Regarding American education standards - I know America spends an absolute fortune on education compared to how well it performs - partially due to huge inefficiency, but also due to the need to turn schools into prisons, with metal detectors etc. Also, I understand while the average is comparable with some of the better performing countries, that hides a huge disparity between the quality of education in affluent areas compared to poor areas as schools are often funded from local taxation - meaning you have a cycle of deprivation with kids caught in poor education as their parents can’t contribute to a quality school, which means those kids can’t get well earning jobs, which continues the cycle.
America has been an interesting social experiment into what unfettered capitalism leads to (just as USSR tried a flawed form of communism) - and what it’s shown is that while it undoubtedly leads to a country excelling economically (if entirely unsustainably), the happiness of the citizens suffers, even the wealthy are not /happy/.
Various international studies into happiness show that a social democracy has by far the happiest citizens on average.
So the question is - do people want 1% of a country to have 99% of the wealth and the country have lots of money as a result, but in the hands of a an unhappy few while the majority are unhappy and struggling to survive…or, have less money, but people feel happier, more valued, more respected, to feel safer…?
Do we keep playing the money game or is it time to play a new game?

I won't respond to everything here but do feel a lot of what you said is extremely important. I think we lie in a state of uncertainty and control that is far beyond our comprehension. The governments control over everything is something that a lot of us can't fathom. From who gets elected to what our tax dollars are spent on. So not only do we get taxed up the ass, but we have no day where that money goes. That puts us in a situation that is quite drastically unfathomable.

@@mcflyjp just on the tax point - America actually has one of the lower tax burdens in the OECD (most developed countries). The US tax burden (as a share of GDP) was just 24.3% in 2018, compared to 33.7% OECD average (that was before Trump’s tax cuts). That compares to say France which was 45%. Or looking at the tax burden of a single worker with no children earning the nations average wage on 2020, US paid 28.3%, and the OCED average was 34.6% - with Belgium highest at 51.5%.
There are many ways to look at it (and I didn’t spend long getting the most up to date data but this is a pattern that’s been true for decades), but every way you look at it, America has a lower tax burden on people (and corporations) than most developed countries, and despite perceptions, the burden has trended down in the medium to long term, but with the burden shifted more from the wealthy to the poorer population under Republicans, and shifted more to the wealthy paying more and the poor paying less under Democrats (again, that’s over the medium term, back to the 60s ish).
The difference is the other point you make - that Americans don’t FEEL their tax is put to work on things they care about. America puts way more of its tax into defence (wars) than any other country, by a huge margin. A lot of the rest ends up going into the pockets of the wealthy through valuable government contracts instead of delivering actual value to people (I’d cite the construction costs of the “wall” as an example of that - a complete useless white elephant that was only effective at funnelling tax payer money into the pockets of construction companies who happened to be donors to Trump’s political aims). This feeds the perception that tax is unjust.
In social democratic countries, people tend to pay way more tax - but in comparison, they are happy to do so as they feel they get value back, with things like universal health care (so people don’t have to worry about health insurance on top), and quality education, and generous maternity and paternity leave etc.
If the government were seen as serving the people, then tax / socialist policies work. But while the government server capital/capitalism instead of the people, then any tax feels like it is money you need being taken away and never seen again.
America could have universal health care and everyone be paying less than they do now, but paying it as tax instead of private health insurance - but that’s seen as “socialism” so it’s “bad” - because capitalism has used propaganda to convince Americans that “socialism=communism=dictatorship=evil”
Which is why it saddens me whenever anything that works elsewhere and makes people happier, like universal health care, gets rejected out of hand by certain Americans - and often the ones who would actually benefit from it the most.
