Gamers: Oh this platform is glowing. Let's have a look!
Marine Biologist: These kelps are dead. I will ignore the giant glowing plate and dive to the bottom to see what killed them.
lol
Lmaaoooo
That's what a Marine Biologist is supposed to do. Even in a fictional world she's still a marine biologist, it's so sweet!
"are you guys super bored bc im just exploring"
maam dont worry, thats what we came here for lol
also....exploring is the WHOLE point of the game
"Are you guys bored because im just talking about the fish?"
No, no! That's why we're here!
Plus it’s looks relaxing to play this game
I loved how you didn’t just play the game but you took time to sit explore and educate us with your knowledge. Also I wasn’t bored with listening to the info
"I'm sure this is not the goal of the game but I'm just exploring," Something that's beautiful about this game is that that _is_ the goal.
8:36 "I keep getting distracted by things that are new." Oh hey! You discovered how to play this game. Discovering and unlocking the species nodes is basically the gameplay loop. There's something compelling about taking a vacant, empty grey pool and filling it with a vibrant ecosystem.
Who else is hoping for the day when Subnautica gets played
my word exactly the moment she sayed WOW how beautifull... :D I thought: You should check out subnautica... :D
"Warning. Leviathan class lifeforms detected."

Imagine her reaction to reef-backs.
The score for this game was written by Austin Wintory, who is widely acclaimed for his scoring work for video games. Austin is pure genius, and a genuinely nice guy. The people who made "Abzu" also made some other games you would probably love -- "Journey," "Flower," "Flow," and "Sky." "Journey" won a TON of awards and is one of the most beautiful games I have ever played in my life. And if you love music, Austin Wintory's score for "Journey" is unforgettable. Simply amazing.
This was just glorious to watch.
cant believe you are paying this, this game is magic !
I agree! It's absolutely gorgeous!
Two other games that might be of interest too you. First is Beyond Blue, a game in which you play a future marine biologist/podcaster using sci fi tech to follow a school of whales and probably other thing since I have only seen a little bit of it played.
Second is Subnautica a game in which the player is the survivor of a starship crash stuck on an alien world with almost no land and pretty much all ocean. Features what seem to me to be very believable alien marine life and lots of information on them from the in game tablet. Love to hear your thoughts on how believable the fictional biology is.
I have been recommended those two games quite some times. I will definitely check them out!
@@Seamemaria starts with subnautica first, It feels like a combination of 20 000 leagues under the sea & cast away but on an alien water planet. Both mesmerizing & downright hair-raising experience
@@Seamemaria Yeah but what all of you are forgetting is Subnautica can be a hard game for a beginner. You have to survive and manage a LOT of things and not just peacefully swim bye and watch. And the tutorial is also not very beginner friendly, assuming that you're already know a lot of things about games. Tho I would also love to see Subnautica on this channel, I'm just saying that it might be a rather annoying experience for a not experienced player in survival games. Don't throw her in the deep water... haha.
@@Seamemaria i would love to watch you play subnautica!
@@Seamemaria I would love to see you try out 'Maneater' just for the fun of it
You're playing a game, congrats you're officially a gamer.
"I don't want this to be boring"
Me, who explores every game I play: Boring how?
I love how she teaches us WHILE playing. I'm learning more than I learn in school right now.
I found this game during a deep depression, and it filled me with so much joy and happiness when I played it. This is really interesting to watch you as a marine biologist play, and hear your commentary about all the various ocean life and ecosystems. I'm also just glad you're playing it because I feel like someone in your profession will appreciate all the details put into this game!
I'm pretty sure the devs of that game would be proud and happy to see a marine biologist enjoying their game and wanting to explore every locations.
This is exactly what I hoped for. A Marine biologist playing one of my favorite games of all time.
*white shark appears*
Me: Instantly uncomfortable
Maria: Oh Hello! :D
I absolutely love this. Please do more of this. I have always wanted to watch a Marine Biologist play this game. It's one of my all time favorite games! Tip: If you boost swim multiple times and reach max speed, you can breach the surface and do a flip!
Why do you keep worrying if it is boring for us? We enjoy this just as much as you do!
I'm never felt so safe and happy watching someone play video games. You are such a amazing person doing so many great things I can't wait for next part. Thank you for making me happy
I absolutely love this, the game is beautiful but the best part is all the knowledge you drop about the marine, it's such a unique experience 😍
Thank you! That is very nice of you ^^ I'm happy you enjoyed the experience. I loved making these videos =)
You would love the aliens fish in Subnautica game
Subnautica is also in my "video games to play" list ;)
@@Seamemaria definitely give it a go, its a great game.
Looking at the performance of Abzu not sure the pc can handle subnautica.
But wold also like to see her play it.
I would die if Maria played subnautica. Dreams would come true
I am subscribing now just on the off chance that she plays the game.
my favourite maria quote from now on: "ooh it's many of the him... or ehr... her... sh-n pers-thing... person avatar."
but yeah I absolutely love this game. this game is so entrancing and calming and it has a bigger meaning about saving the ocean (which is always a good thing to do). then there are also little shark or dolphin statues that you can meditate on and just watch the fish (where the game itself also points out the name of the fish), to add to the learning aspect of the game. the visuals and score are absolutely mindblowing and make this game feel both surreal and super realistic at the same time. and I also love how the game shows less commonly known fish, instead of just the fish everyone knows.
and what? you're not a gamer? it toooootally doesn't show XD luckily enough, this is not an skill-intensive game, but more a game to just wonder around and be amazed and take things slowly.
😅 I'm quite happy this is an easy game, and not many skills are required ☺ But I'm loving the ambiance of the game. It's really magical.
@@Seamemaria yeah it really does an amazing job at showing the beauty and magic of marine life. to me, the underwater world is hundreds of times more interesting than outerspace and this game really shows why. though there is a major tone switch around 60% through the game. also, now that we're talking about underwater games; maybe check out Subnautica (or it's sequal, Subnautica Below Zero). they may be set on an alien planet, but many creatures and areas draw heavy inspiration from real-life creatures (though it is a survival game, it also has creative mode, which means you can just go around without having to worry about anything). could be interesting to see how well it mirrors earth's marine world.
@@Lusius8879 Quite some people have already recommended me Subnautica. I will definitely check it out! Thanks! 🙂
@@Seamemaria oh haha. I aint surprised. and I almost forgot: idk if someone else has reccomended this yet, but there is another game very similar to Abzu, but more realistic and it aparently used actual scientific data from ocean experts in it's creation. it's called Beyond Blue. People describe it as a simple narrative driven ocean game that's a great learning tool and a big love letter to the ocean. To me, sounds like a perfect fit for you.
There is a thing in the kelp forest that has glowing blue color in the middle and has coral around if you interact with it, Green Sea Turtles come out. 5:42 this is what it looks like if you interact with these they'll release new animals into the environment.
When you're a marine biologist the world is your oyster.
It's never boring, When I play these types of games, I just explore and enjoy. This was a lot more enjoyable than speed run gamers. These types of games are meant to be explored so, you were fine. This was awesome, a marine biologist enjoying a game like this. I loved when you explained a lot of things about these species as you were playing, it's entertaining.
I am so glad to have found this channel. I just started studying to become a Marine Biologist, hoping to turn some of my strongest passions (scuba, the ocean, and science) into a career!
I really get claustrophobic in the "big blue", when i'm just surrounded by blue and darkness. Even in games that makes me feel uncomfortable....
Also no need to apologize so much, I personally enjoyed this very much and for a big part it's due to your enthousiasm. And no, your "oooh shiny" type of distractions don't bother either :)
She puts so much editing effort into these gameplays and commentaries, it's wonderful
I came for the reaction, stayed for the facts.
Hi, I'm studying Marine Biology and I'm on my third year in college here in the Philippines. It's so cool that I've encountered your channel, I'll absolutely get to learn a lot of things from you. More videos! ❤️
One of the best reaction and playthrough videos of this game. Love the genuine joy when you saw the various fish and mammals.
This was nothing less than a magical experience I didn't even know I needed!
Beyond Blue would be right up your alley
The reaction to the Orcas was adorable.
This is probably one of my favorite games for exploration and just watching the visuals.
As someone who has played video games since i was 4 , and i’m 27 now and still playing video games, it was an absolute pleasure to watch you play. your curiosity and childlike wonder is something i miss having with video games but it’s so nice to be able to fall into worlds and play for hours.
please, if you have the time, play and post whatever video games you want to! it’s so nice watching you and learning from you too!
Saw this in my recommended and I don’t regret clicking on it! Hearing about marine information is really interesting especially when you’re super into it
I think that the portals are more of a spiritual thing
Love her playing this and showing the images what the animals are and the discriptions is amazinggg please keep doing this
Please explore and have fun, we came here to listen to your point of view as a marine biologist, it's fascinating to see you exploring the game
"are you guys super bored because i'm just exploring around?" No, this is exactly why I clicked on the video. 10/10
I'm 30 seconds in and I can't get over how green and stunning your eyes are! Wow!
I'd watch you do an entire series of this. Playing vicariously through you.
Just found your channel today, love how you took the time to explain a lot. I loved this game when I played it myself and now I can appreciate it a lot more thanks to you. Can’t wait for you to play the other games people are suggesting. Keep it up, your content is amazing!
Cool video! I love to see your view both as a professional on how the underwater world is portrayed as well as somebody who hasn't played games in ages.
And no, nobody will complain about you geeking about the things you love and are very knowledgeable about. That's the sole reason why we are watching this. That's what makes the "real world expert plays video game about their area of work" and "expert reacts" formats interesting in the first place.
You should play Beyond Blue
Have to check it out!
Naw endless ocean 2 is the best game has everything
@@inferlynx737 naw beyond blue is
Oh absolutely! I played through it in one sitting and it's absolutely captivating
@@kaipotter3245 beyond blue may have better graphics but endless ocean 2 has SOOOO much more content and a more intriguing plot.
Play again pleasee, i played it and the end it's very precious, I think this game my passion for the sea awakened
this is one of my favorite games - especially the art and soundtrack - and you reacting to it with such love and adoration actually made me cry a few tears of joy ♥
“Ecco the Dolphin” - I remember playing this game growing up, it’s super scary (because I find the ocean kind of scary), but super awesome as you play a dolphin and solve puzzles in a big ocean, fighting sharks while making sure you’ve got air to breathe, exploring scary underwater caves with glowing fish following you and electric giant eels coming to get you.
Your pure joy while playing this game was heart warming. Would love to see you play more of it. Don't sweat us being bored or your gameplay. Your happiness, enthusiasm, and info are very entertaining!
This was wonderfully entertaining and made even cooler because of the extra learning and wonder from someone who has seen these amazing creatures in person. This is cool!
this video was extremely relaxing and soothing. i rlly enjoyed exploring around the beautiful ocean with you and learning little bits of knowledge of the animals along the way. keep making these videos 🥺💗
I found your channel by watching your entire Subnautica game back when it came out and I remember you mentioning Abzu. This is a lovely game! I love how much detail you added to the game with the pictures and discussions. Thank you for sharing with us.
I think I've found my favourite casual gamer! Love this video so much!
Watching people being excited from talking soooo much about their passion is always a nice thing to do :)
I've always loved this game for the visuals and the underwater world it shows. But going down there with somebody who actually KNOWS this world first hand and knows so much about it, was another level. Thank you so much for the video. Not boring at all :)
Never apologize for playing a game the way you want to play it. 💓🧡💛💚💙💜 I love your enthusiasm.
I absolutely loved listening to you jumping from one one thaught to the next and then back again. It was relaxing, interesting and very entertaining to listen to. Thank you!
i really love how enthusiastic you speak about all the different life forms in the sea and thanks for the education i really love your playthrough🧜♀️🐳🐋🐬🐟🦭🦈🐠🐡🐙♥️
I didnt know I needed this! Abzu is one of my favourite games of all time, your commentary and exploration is not boring at all :^) Listeninng/watching while I work haha
This is such a fun video!! And thank you for identifying so many sea creatures for us, that was my favorite part
I'm really loving the educational commentary with the gameplay. Thank you. You have a new subscriber. 😊
You could never be boring. We're watching this, because we want to see a Marine Biologist's reaction to exploring this game, because we do the same thing... but unlike you, we don't know as much about the Deep.
I've played this game numerous times, and I always discovered something new every time I play
I love your channel so much and learn something new every time I watch one of your videos!😊This was so relaxing to watch. I hope to be a marine biologist when I grow up! Thank you for educating all of us about the ocean💙🦦
I love this! So excited. And I hope to learn more about marine biology from this playthrough! I don’t know what it is but I love seeing professionals interact with mediums of entertainment that have to do with their profession.
I’m SO happy RUclips recommended your channel!!!
Watching you have fun exploring while also giving really interesting tidbits was quite fun! Hope to see more of this.
I don't know how I got recommended this video, but I'm glad I did! Really appreciate the educational commentary in the video!
This video is amazing! Watching the gameplay and also learning about ecosystems, new fish, how they live, grow up. It was all so awesome🐬
Such a beautiful game and seeing your reactions and hearing your descriptions of the aquatic wildlife added so much more. I will never eat Tuna and I hope their numbers can recover. This was wonderful to watch and I hope you continue these videos
Your enthusiasm for sea life is infectious!
This is definitely one of my favorite games. This is my first time learning about your channel and I'm super excited to check out your channel. I really enjoyed the amount of knowledge you put into your videos. It was nice to learn things while watching you play through this game.
What a cinematic masterpiece. Great job!
The talk about whales at the end having different cultures, made me think about that one whale that sounds higher or lower pitched than all the other whales & is doomed to roam the ocean forever alone.
Because all the other whales run away, when they hear him/her approaching. Because the sound is different to what they're used to. Poor guy/gal.
Edit: It's called the 52Hz whale.
I loved the entire experience and to learn more about the different food-webs. I've grown up learning about fish and marine life and it's so entertaining and pleasing to see you play this from a naturalist perspective :') Thanks a bunch - excited for (potentially) more :)
As a fellow biologist (I specialized in hydrobiology and aquatic ecotoxicology) this is extremely interesting. Well, it's interesting both as a gamer and as a biologist. It's nice to have edacational content on the side of gameplay. I really enjoyed this!
Exploring is the main focus of my videogame experiences so this is amazing, especially with all the added information from your professional perspective.
And especially Abzû is all about the feeling of everything.
I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH AND OMG I LOVE YOU AND YOUR CHANNEL AND YOUR CONTENTTTT. I literally wish I had you as a teacher you make learning so much fun somehow. Hope u doing okay :)
Thank you
Being underwater/exploring underwater even in video games really freaks me out. But listening to you explain everything you saw made it easier to look watch for me. :)
I'm hoping one day I can move past my fear and appreciate the ocean more. ♡
Can't wait for you to get 100k subs cuz you deserve it. Amazing channel. Learning a lot from you
This is so awesome. I watch a lot of Let's Plays but your way of playing this game is so unique. In a good way. You're taking your time for exploring and explaining. Yet alone in this video I've learned so much about the ocean. And it's so great to see you getting so excited about the game. I didn't find it boring at all.
i love this game, the visuals and music combines to be so peaceful and engaging. i've always loved the ocean. the only thing i felt was missing from the game was a biologist mode or something that would give facts about all the species in the game if focused on or something to that effect. the meditating is kind of that but not to the extent i wanted so this video is PERFECT. i loved all the little titbits of information you could give about different species, and also focusing on the impact our species have had on these eco systems. excited to watch more.
Watching you play makes me want to play again. This is a fun game because it encourages exploration.
I loved watching you play! The game itself is so beautiful but I loved your commentary and your reactions to it! I would love to see you play more ABZÛ or any marine game! ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡
I'd love to see you play the rest of this game! :) It's such a beautiful game!
I may be late here but one of the design philosophies behind this game is to get the player in a state of flow, thats why there's no HUD and all the barriers are natural, for example. So theres no wrong way to play, its all about exploring, goofing off with the fish, thinking about the mystery, its engaging the player is many different ways to achieve the immersive flow state within the game.
A brilliantly designed work of art
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?! I love watching new gamers exploring game like this. Esp if it is something you love and specialize in (watching two middle-aged bomb experts who never gamed before, diffusing a bomb was peak entertainment 'Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes'). I fell in love with the peace and artistry of Abzu. Gave me the same vibes as another game called Journey. Watching you play this the first time gave me the same feelings again.
This was so much fun to watch! It was funny because my reactions mirrored yours exactly haha! Cool video!
It was awesome to see someone talk about something they love
I was the 2000 like :) I'm so proud. Love your videos!!
Firstly, i would like to say what a pleasure it was watching you playing this game.
Not only because the game it's self is beautiful but listening to you as a Marine Biologist talking about the different animals of the sea.
It is clear that not only do you know your subject well but you have a great passion for it and a good heart.
I love to listen to people who know a great deal about subjects that interest them deeply.
I also wish to thank you are others like you for the wonderful things you do for the animals of the sea.
There are not many like you out there in the world today and it's a wonderful thing to see.
If i may also add, you're a very beautiful woman too and i love your accent.
I was very impressed with your impression of the English accent in the later video!, hee!, hee! ;)
Great video, kept me wanting to see more and it was a pleasure!
this is amazing and definitely wasn't boring. i absolutely enjoyed this
Thank you! ^^ I'm so glad you enjoyed it :)
Oh You re so fun because you re natural like this is your environment, and you say interesting things, absolutely no boring, I played this game recently and it s a pleasure watch a marine biologist play this this game, I really like ocean and fishes but you are on another level ahah
My son just downloaded this a few weeks ago and showed me. It's an wonderfully beautiful game.
I'm definitely enjoying this video haha It's relaxing with you haha!
i don't really watch these types of vids, but I do enjoy knowledge and the way you do it,talking about what you see and adding the pic with the name,it's nice.I am sure I will go from watching your video, with some fish names and knowledge about them.Thank you.
You can tell someone is a scientist when instead of following the visible path, they go everywhere saying "I just want to explore" and it is great.
This fantastic game reminds me ever so much of flowers. The soundtracks for each part, how you can hear the dread, and at the end when you are at your highest power and burst through the dark objects. It is so reminscent I love it so darn much! Kane.
