I bought this about 2 weeks ago. Performance stalled a lot from a cold start. And the apps would freeze. Installed an Samsung 840 EVO SSD. Never has seen such a drastic change in performance. Boots in 10 seconds. Apps instantly open. If you want me to make a video on how to install the SSD give me a like :)

you have to buy an sata to usb adaptor online. look it up in amazon. Then you need Samsung Migration tool software to clone it

neil haque If you could create a video showing how to clone the drives that would be very much appreciated. I'm interested in eventually installing an ssd with the 8gb ram upgrade to get a very smooth running machine.

I have the Pentium version. I replaced the HD with a 256 SSD and I upgraded the Ram to 1 stick of 8GB.I need to run some test to see how the performance is now. I like to buy base models with an Upgraded CPU only, or refurbished and then have the option to add everything else on my own. The above review is very accurate and this laptop is a great machine for the money. I watch this channel because it has been spot on with every machine I have personally owned.
I buy about 15 to 20 desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones per year just because I am addicted to A. Seeing how much performance I can get out of lower priced machines. and B. The next big thing. I have used everything from the Acer R7 Star Trek looking laptop to every line of surface tablet from 1-3 and RT, Apple macbooks, Air, ipads, Samsung Galaxy Notes and about 20 different android tablets with my favorite being the Nook HD+ with a MOD (price and screen can't be beat). Gaming laptops, Gaming desktops and build my own machines. I basically play with them for a month or so resell and buy something else. Keep up the good work Lisa! This is my go to channel to feed my tech addiction.
I will post performance test with the upgrades listed above soon.

I got this refurbished for $315 on Amazon with 1 year warranty OMG I love it!! I just needed a laptop for school and the tablet mode is just a bonus for me!! I love the TouchScreen and how responsive it is, I am so impressed. Just remove the security software it comes with and all the bloatware to make it faster. If you're looking for something affordable, just go for this one. It does what it needs to and it's fast enough for me. :)

Anyone know of a capacitive stylus that will work with this screen? I've tried different ones and they always skip. Works well with finger touch but I'd like to find a stylus that would work with it too.

Just got one for $199 July 1, 2016. Bumped RAM to 8 Gb and dropped in a bigger SSD in place of the 32 Gb eMMC drive and a 120 Gb SD card. Fresh install of Windows 10 without all the Dell bloatware. Still evaluating it for the next 3 weeks. Stylus works, but no hand writing recognition. Wanted a tablet with a keyboard for checking off inspection checklists at work, may just use it as a small laptop with the added bonus of the touch screen.

This is a BIG difference that Lisa mentions about the capability to remove the bottom panel and replace the hard drive etc. A lot of ultrabooks do not allow you to do that. Some ultrabooks like sony have everything soldered to the board.

So, I got this laptop last week and actually had to return the first one to best buy because it wasn't connecting to wifi. After I got the second one, it had same problem, and I decided to sort it out myself. I found out the system is set to automatically turn off the wifi. You will have to uncheck that box in the wifi properties so that your wifi will constantly be on. Otherwise, you are going to have the pc automatically turn off the wifi even after you manage to connect it. I got the one with intel Pentium, 8GB RAM, and ssd.

+Nadun Buddhima Rodrigo so far, If you've used a Dell laptop or you want sth. with the new specs, this laptop is definitely a good buy for u. Also, it comes with Windows 10 so, don't expect lag due to update of OS. It's been really good so far. I was undecided as to whether to buy it or Lenovo yoga 2 with Intel core i3. The Dell has the 8gb of ram and ssd which makes it one with the predominant specs of 2015. The only downside is there are no backlight keys and the touchpad has some resistance. Also, there is a noticeable increased brightness when I stop using it for my old hp pavilion g7. Lenovo yoga2 comes with Windows 8. It's been awesome so far for me. If you don't plan on using it most times for stuff like heavy editing, and playing high processing games, you should be fine. For me, I enjoy playing fifa(not the one from windows store). Will see how it performs with that. Hope this helps.

I just got one with Windows 10 and either I got a defective one or something else but this is the most sluggish computer I have used for a long time. Everything is just painfully slow and at the end I decided to return it. I I like the design and gold color plus its very portable. Overall a beautiful notebook with a very sluggish performance. Mine is comes with Intel Pentium with 4GB RAM and 128 SSD which is why I suspect that it may be defective.

Why can't they take 99% of the laptops made (even the $250 ones) and just add the $20 plastic hinges? It would make
all of them SO much more useful.

Bought this laptop in 2014, it's been dropped, handled terribly, has scratches all over, but still runs really well. All I did was a RAM upgrade. Only unreliable thing is the track pad. Highly recommend as a basic pc for school or browsing.

I have the Inspiron Duo 1090 and I love it from day one. Other than the cool factor of the flip screen back in 2011 - it has proven to be a solid workhorse for office, internet and even videos production (not super uder editing but being able to do a basic nice vid). I saw this on Dell's site last week and want one so I very muchh appreciate your review.
BTW - the Duo is still holding it's own at 3-1/2 years.

i purchased the 11"version of this laptop with pentium (the best of the 11"). ive had it for 2 days now and have been thoroughly disappointed with its performance thus far. a lot of noticeable lag right out of the box. my used, 2011 11" macbook air ran twice as fast as this junk. my trackpad doesnt always work either. will be returning this laptop tomorrow.

  • @jamesbest3347

Lisa, great review as always. I do like how the yoga looks more, but those 3 USBs and the full HDMI is really nice on this. Is there any way you could use DOTA 2 as your gaming benchmark moving forward? I know you use Civilization most of the time, but I think the popularity on PC gaming leans towards games like Minecraft, DOTA 2, LoL, Hearthstone, etc. I'm really looking for an 11" convertible like this that will play the games listed at least on the lowest settings. I wonder if a SSD would make DOTA 2 runnable on low at native resolution on this. Thanks again!

This or the Surface Pro? I'm trying to get a budget tablet that has full windows 8 and can runs most programs. I already have a really good desktop pc so this tablet would be for college and a few very basic games. Anyway would a surface pro (1st generation) be better or is this laptop/tablet better is terms of specs?

    • @janessawest159
      @janessawest159 9 лет назад +1

The surface pro 3 runs from $799-$1300 not including the 2 yr plan and the Office 365 Home along with it. The Dell Inspiron 11 3147 Signature Edition 2 in 1 PC runs from $400-$500 also not including the 2 yr plan and the Office 365 Home. But if your a student or in the military that price will be a huge difference. Plus if sign up for the Bing Rewards from Microsoft with a purchase over $75 2-day shipping is free up until November 23rd.

Hey Lisa, Received my Dell Inspiron 11 3000 as a gift ( about 3 ) yrs ago ... Enjoyed your video ... Wondered why my laptop doesn't have vents ? Windows 10 as the software ( geez what a nightmare that is ) in addition curious what the tiny square ( port ? ) is on the upper right hand side ... I've watched many video's to try and conserve battery drain but nothing really works ... Battery life is an absolute nightmare ... I don't know if my Windows updates are using some battery life as I'll go to sleep with 87% and wake up to 70 something when I turn it on in the morning ... Thx in advance and happy holidays from New York

I got this laptop for Christmas 2015. It's only April and it just stopped working. Dead. No lights. Nothing. It will not take a charge and when I do plug it in: no lights - dead. I'm on hold with Dell and they want me to ship it back on warranty. They'll send me a shipping container to ship back. This is supposed to be a 7 to 10 day turnaround. Let see how this plays out. I'll add to this post once I find out what truly happens.

I bought two of these Dell Inspiron 11 3000 with i3 processor in Dec2014. One was noisy so exchanged for the same computer within a few days. So I have machine A and machine B. Machine A broke down almost every 1 - 3 months. Hard drive changed. Till the shop agreed to exchange it for another computer almost 1 year later. I did not choose Dell. Machine B broke down once during warranty, hard drive changed and now broken down again about 18 months later. I am not going to repair it. I had bought Dell for the brand and reliability and because I like the designs of this particular computer plus the price was right. The 2 machines had been used on flat surfaces and looked after with care.

Years ago I was shopping at Costco and seen one of these, I was really tempted to buy it at $499 with a two year Costco style warranty it was almost a no brainer. I say almost because at that time I had just bought an XPS 8700 tower.. and my checkbook balanced on buying that or upgrading my video card and since I had a Latitude e6410 at the time, I suffered for another year and bought my XPS 13 de. It was probably worth the wait... because I just bought one for $25 untested. Now could be a dud. But it looks to be in great shape. Still while quad cores on a budget is somewhat a norm today, it would have been pretty cool to have owned this back then I am sure.

Welp, mine is having a few issues after two years of light use. Really slowed down after upgrading to win 10, overheating and most recently the left keys on the keyboard (esc,1,a,z caps) stopped working. Did a google search and found it to be a common problem with this series. I had almost forgot I purchased a warranty for it, so off it goes to be repaired. Really do like the way it looks, hopefully adding an SSD and more ram will help.

Hey Lisa, you should try and get your hands on a Razer Blade 2014 14inch to review. Its a gaming laptop the size of a Macbook but as fast as an Alienware. Thinner than a dime but still sports a GTX 870m!

In the section for wireless display technologies, do you mean to tell me that Mirror cast is usually found on Bay-trail or box chip CPU platforms and WiDi wireless display tech is usually found on Intel Core CPU platforms ?

One thing I would like to know about this laptop...I know you can change out the RAM and HDD, but what about the CPU? Could I swap it out for say, an Intel Core i5? Or is the CPU soldered onto the motherboard?
    Thanks in advance!

The CPU is indeed soldered to the motherboard and not upgradable sadly!

Well I am heading to best buy today with $450 and I think you just sold me. I was going to get the asus transformer book t100 ( or t200 if they had it for $400) but this seems like it would be better for someone who will be treating it like a PC and not a sidekick tablet ( I don't have my own PC). I love the tablet formfactor but I also need a keyboard and trackpad when I am at a table. 2 in 1's are the only way to go for my computer and tablet needs :)

Please answer! How has this laptop hold up in terms of speed/lagg? I'm having WW3 in my head right now trying to decide between this or the Asus transformer t101ha.
For some reason Walmart has the Dell cheaper than the Asus.

Still deciding between these and 3 other devices
Which should I buy to compliment my Dell Inspiron 14 5458 laptop. (Note: No Yogas)
    1.Dell Venue 8 Pro
    2.Dell Inspiron 11 3000 (This)
    3.Dell Venue 8 7000 Series
    4.Microsoft Surface 3

    • @Mimiscellaneous
      @Mimiscellaneous 8 лет назад

Don't know if you are still deciding; but if you are I'd suggest one of the dell venues. If you are trying to replace your current laptop a bit more then look to the Surface or Inspiron. But just to complement your computer then pick one of the venues. The pro will have more computer function vs the 7000 which will be more like a tablet; assess your needs and pick one.
