In the Arctic, in February, “the thermometer plunges to way below -30°C”. You don’t need to go to the Arctic for that in Canada. I live just 4 hours northwest of Toronto, ON and having several days of -40°C , a couple times a winter is not uncommon. Kids are expected to bundle up and walk to their bus stop until the temps go below -35°C, WITHOUT the windchill factored in. With the windchill that could easily feel like -40°C or lower. A common Scandinavian saying also applies here, “there is no bad weather, just bad winter clothing”. :)
and now de beers snap lake mine is closed down diavik will shut down 2026 Gahcho Kué will stay alive until 2030 and the bhp ekati mine will stay alive till 2040 at least thats what the plans so far say
Why are they still using explosives to mine the diamond? Sounds so dangerous. I thought these days, the mining industry has shifted to boring machines to mine the rocks.
@@taotao98103 yes there is an inherent risk but there has been very few if any deaths from explosives in many many years, its the only way to mine bulk tonnage boring machins wouldnt cut in opn pit mining

How can you live in a place that cold. I live in the north eastern United States, and that is cold enough for me.

Nope blasting.. the areas always cleared prior to a blast.. it's generally very safe
@@Bowiiihowdy Explosives are unpredictable no matter how safe.

@Henry Lau I know your a hard rock mining expert but boring machines can only effectively mine soft rocks
