The mine is almost exhausted and will close soon. They have never found another big pink diamond deposit anywhere on earth. This was truly one of a kind.
Nice capture of this diamond operation! Very few people get to see what a mining operation looks like, let alone an underground one. Thanks for sharing!
THE AMOUNT OF EQUIPMENT UNDERGround AT ARGLE IS AMAZING.
I TAKE MY HAT OFF TO ALL MINERS!!
What an extraordinary film! Editing, music, drone fly overs, all convey the scale of this immense operation-much of it underground. Thankyou for the glimpse not another world.
Was there building that plant in 1983-1984. Jack hammering and drilling sold rock with hand tools down in holes that were blasted out but needed a second blasting..they were the footings foundations for the plant. Roberts costruction. So hot there some days 45c. Hard job.
What an amazing operation and video. I had NO idea the workings of the would be like this! I always thought a diamond mine was guys swinging pick axes. Fascinating!
That’s how the Seven Dwarfs did it 😉
Did my electrical apprenticeship here, started just after the exploratory decline was cut in by Downers and handed over to Macmahon for development. Spent most of my days in the main process plant then finished my 4th year of the apprenticeship and 1st and 2nd year as a tradesman as part of the underground team. Very fond memories of an excellent team and culture. Didn't get to see the crusher go in but have kicked a football around in the empty crusher chamber.
Thanks for sharing your story Michael. While i havent worked for the mine I have been tour guiding and flying tourists and workers in and out for 16 years and have got to know lots of the staff over the years. Always professional from what i could see!
Hi Michael
Could you see the sparkle of tiny diamonds in the rocks of the tunnel?
I worked building the main crusher in 84 and the rocks were shimmering with thousands of tiny diamonds.
Even the concrete was shiny at certain angles. I'm not kidding !
Did you get to bring home at least one diamond?
Worked there during exploration phase. Thanks for sharing this.
I need job here
@@pakistanrailways7972 check Rio Tinto website mate
I worked there constructing the main crusher in 1984. Hot like hell :(
The main contractor returned to Melbourne after sticking it out for over a year at 50 degrees + every day but soon died when he fell of the roof of his new house he was building. He was a very nice and fair boss. Life is just not fair for some.
That was really interesting. Thanks Rio Tinto for letting us see inside Argyll. Thx Chris Magnay for the video. 👍
Thanks! I had fun putting this video together for them.
@Jane Gray Hi Jane, thanks for reaching out. This footage all belongs to Rio Tinto. Now that the mine is in shutdown I'm not sure who would be the best contact anymore sorry.
@@chrismagnay hi Chris, ah ok. Thanks for letting me know. I was hoping it might have been yours.
Fantastic video. The public needs to see more mining video such as this in order to change their perceptions about the industry.
engineers are amazing people.
Brings back my mining memories
Love the lockout procedure, great simple method of knowing who is in the mine at all times.
Thanks for the video! I've spent a lot of time underground and it's not often you see it all lit up like this.
Wow! We sure do take a lot for granted✌✌ Amazing feat!
The video reminded me of "Deep Down Dark", the book about the 33 Chilean miners trapped for 76 days. Helluva story.
A movie was made, "The 33", but it left out a lot.
This was awesome to see. Thanks for making this
Lachlan Stanley No worries, glad you enjoyed it.
A serious feat of modern engineering.
The block cave design is incredible, so good to see it in action too.
It's a feat yes, but serious no, they have been mining since the beginning of time.
That was great. a good look underground with the different functions and areas
Seriously good video, the way you put it together communicated the information very well, well done!
Lachlan Scanlan Thank you Lachlan. I really enjoyed this project, it’s a different world down there!
At least the video should show the raw-diamond.
Usually, they are very hard to see as they are embedded in kimberlite rocks. The mining operation will need to move a massive amount of rock in order to just get a little bit of diamond, and so you likely won't be able to see it until the rock goes through the mineral processing stages!
This is a killer film. Loved it!
Thank you for the kind words!
Wow this take me back to the late 1980's when I was an apprentice on the Copper Mines. Would have been nice if you didn't fast forward the visuals in the tunnels so people could see a more better view of the splits of the tunnels in different directions. But all in all its a great short view of what it looks like in an underground mine. 🇿🇦🇿🇦
Ok to all that let's see some frickin diamonds!
Beautiful mate
Great job done by engineering.
When i watch this video i remember when i work for Freeport Indonesia as a mechanical construction, we build the crusher and Conveyor in GBC 601 underground..
I was part of this History operated there as a Fixed Plant Operator very unique experience. I still have some great photos shot that I took myself while there before I left in November 2018.
Very nice , i was working under ground in a copper mine as a machinist , take me there !!!!
Was there the day they cut the ribbon in 2005 the MAD the SAD and the tressels carrying the conveyor belt up to just below the open cut crusher. Great video .Thanks for sharing.
All that Mining for that 1 Diamond on a Woman's necklace
Have you ever heard of Laughing 😂
Diamond is most hardest material used to cut iron also !
Yeah its kind of a waste of time and sometimes its even a waste of life!!!!!
It's crazy huh? 😂😂😂😂
The office looks so unreal XD
Damn. The map must be all over the shop in this u/g mine. I thought Waroonga Agnew had some crazy left right corkscrew drives but damn
Amazing work and workers, great job
Thank you very much!
A whole world under there!
Amazing video 😎😎😎😎💖
Thanks Gavin
What an operation.
Super nice sir I like it so much thank you this video sir thx
great video..
Thanks Cris 💯
My old hometown of kununurra. I miss u
wow.. I have never seen an underground mine this advanced
It's one of the nicest I've seen for sure. Almost everywhere I've worked is rusty, worn out, and older than I am.
Hats off to you mole people's, I work at Australias largest iron ore port and I would every day above ground is a good day
how did you get access to the site?
Impressionante.
My uncle metod hobic used to work at abandoned posiedon bow River Diamond mine near Turkey Creek in Western Australia Kimberley region
Wow. Just wow.
Amazing...
interesting, thank you
Впечатляюще поставленное производство: почти все под землёй, даже офис!
Нет, на самом деле офис был на поверхности...
Would have loved to see the product coming out of the mine
Nice tour and sound track .. Dress code seems to be of SNC-Lavalin. Would someone share info about the track?
Omg engineering incredible
Sure is!
It's is nice and interesting...
I seem to recall someone washing samples at ACIRL Rockhampton
I would love to own an Argyle Pink Diamond.
I would have loved seeing one diamond and where how it was extracted from all the rock.
I agree. Where were the pretty rocks??
Nice video
It does amaze me what humans will invent and do to get a rock…any rock.
Nice!!!!
Sigh Pocket Thanks!
Wow really ossam
That is just mind blowing how deep and how many Ks and do you follow a seam like gold
Anthony Killen Thanks, it’s amazing being down there. This mine follows a big volcanic pipe or Lamporite Ore down.
@@chrismagnay Really? That's a lamp and not kimberlite? Very cool! I do diamond ore assay (caustic fusion), lamporite usually harder to extract stones from. Is it all industrial, or are there gem diamonds here too?
@@thirstfast1025 Yep, all lamporite here and i think they are getting close to 80% gem - mostly coloured diamonds including 90% of the worlds best pinks.
@@chrismagnay Very interesting! I've heard of finding less common colors and different inclusions in lamporite diamonds. There's an old lamprophyre not far from where I live that hosts unusual diamonds. Not just unusual because of the host, but also strange inclusion ratios or something, I don't remember the specifics. I love diamonds though! I get to find them at work once in a while, but I'd like to find my own one day! There's actually a few pipes around here too, but they're all claimed (or undiscovered and inaccessible). Have to find a good place(r) to pan downstream from one of them pipes! LOL! Awesome video! Thanks for making it!
Oh waooooo, such a huge underground, nice channel content friend. Show some love💖💝💛❣💖💕
@Chris Magnay, first of all, really nice video. Second, with all of that equipment underground, and all of the production from that mine, just wondering why they're planning on shutting down at the end of 2020? Will the mineral body be gone by then?
Thanks Cutter. They are nearing the end of the block cave they have set up, where you start at the bottom of the ore body and the material keeps collapsing into the collection points. There is more material underground but its too expensive to mine and outside the scope of the current operation.
Reminds me of a level on Red Faction game
Hard to believe the amount of diamonds they find would cover the cost of that operation!!
At its peak they produced a quarter of the worlds diamonds!
Background music sure reminds me of "Pink Floyd" (David Gilmore) "coming back to life". Regardless, nice video
Pink, yellow and champagne diamonds 💎 in this mine. It’s now closed down though… is this true?
sorry mother Earth😢😢
Its ok daughter 😋😋
Insomnia Fever 🤣🤣
Insomnia Fever daddy is that u
assassinated by wild children..
☺ wow modern mining
Nice sir
the biggest mine steady friend
Tag board lock is a great idea. Two near misses, at separate mines because of tag board games, one accidental, the other, an idiot playing games. Should be made industry standard.
I'm in the process of reopening an underground mine - I'm totally stealing that idea. It's brilliant.
What are your thoughts on the prices of the brown diamonds that grow there? Will they go up and be in high demand? I had bought some levian chocolate diamond earrings for about 16,000. Would this be a good investment?
How many levels underground are there and how deep does the mine go? What does the refuge chamber do?
The Refuge chamber is in case there is a fire, or poisonous atmosphere, or flood, etc.
It is a self contained survival pod basically. You get inside and seal the door, and it has batteries and tanks of oxygen, a co2 scrubbing machine, and basic survival supplies to keep 16 men alive for an extended period of time until rescue could reach them.
Think of it like an underground space capsule lol
Wow that was very interesting! Too claustrophobic for me!
I thought this video was guna show the raw diamonds before there cut and made to look like what we no as 💎
Gud Video ...
But Learnt that ... it is Very Difficult To Mine Diamonds ...
wow, that's a tidy site. I need a job here
Mining production will end this year or early 2020.
i need to use some parts on this video. how do i contact you
What will happen to this huge mine when it is no longer producing?
Can't believe that the mines is closing this year?
Well, just like with all mining operations - eventually you run out of the stuff you were after.
Gostei muito dó seu canal é sou garimpeiro é descobri muito coisa interessante pedra de raio fugorito é ó trás mais
Good
Thanks
I ma diamond polisher in india
Save earth
Kranthi!
Witch country is this
They have not shown there production.
Let's go into y=12!
Machinery principal same as has been.
I'mpressive infrastructure
Many way of getting out like in hell I'd have missed it
Where is the diamond?
Gut's
How did they get all of the equipment into the mine?
What they cant drive in they disassemble and bring in piece by piece and reassemble at the work site
A lot gets built piece by piece inside the mine.
Lovely music but there's nothing romantic about working in an underground hard rock mine believe me I did it for 14 years. Bogger in the hole.
It must be interesting I think
Better than those office jobs
@@Ydv_Saurabh26 oh yeah give it a shot then you'll soon find out.
Romantic, no. Satisfying, hell yes. I'll be back working underground in just a few months.
one stone......one tiny piece......from all this.
I'm looking for security job at this mine
I would have liked to have seen one pink diamond that was extracted from this mine. But no.
👍👍👍✍️✌️
