Hi Mate, I made one of these a couple of years ago, what you want to try is a piece of iron above or below a target item, in the other tubes, and then see what readings you get with and without the iron, might be more interesting, I definitely found it helpful when I done it.. Take care mate Tom

Something seems off, ask your self how many targets you dug up on hunt which are deeper than 10', let alone 17'? Seems that dirt box gives as much resistance as air.
The issue I have with these tests is your moving the coin and the coin is not mixed within the soil which can affect how deep a machine will detect a coin. I am going to do some tests myself but I will have to go out into a quiet country area as there is too much EMI where I live.
would all the Minelab Vanquish be same depth ? and can you put in single frequency too ? also do you know if you got one with the plug in headphones if you have bluetooth headphones or you buy minelab ones separate there work ?
Depth would be very similar. A Vanguish 540 is pretty much a non waterproof Equinox with a few less tweakables. Depthwise, and assuming similar coil size will be similar results.

Whats your point? He tests many different machines in this same soil and box. No one said it would replicate real world conditions exactly. But you can get an idea of detector depth moreso than air testing. Also, an item long buried will actually give an even better signal. Of course ground mineralization, colocated iron targets and so on will effect depth, but theres no way to replicate those variables. These Vanquishes are legit, and multi-iq is legit, if a machine is weak in this test it will be weak in the real world.

Agreed, this test is in no way accurate or scientific but it’s just an indicator as to the detectors capabilities
Typically though, a long buried coin in dirt will give an even BETTER signal than this test is providing.
I have a question what if thers for example 200 grams of gold down there will it detect deeper؟
