Weekly Torah Portion: Bamidbar

We pledge allegiance to the flags of the united tribes of Israel, one nation under G-d, with love and justice for all. What is the significance of the twelve flags which were raised at the head of the twelve tribal encampments in the desert? Why did the Israelites long so to merit the flags?
