    I grew up not knowing the lyrics back in the day before the interwebs, which is probably why I loved this type of music and more. The vocalizations are their own instrument, which made me focus on the sound of the vocals and the music and not care about the lyrics. This all eventually led to my love of newer bands like Lorna Shore. All of it is an internal stress relief for me.

    Highly recommend the band Death. Very commonly called the originators of death metal. Knowing that you like the complex time signatures and such, they’d be a great fit. Personal favorites include “Trapped in a Corner”, “Suicide Machine” “Flattening of Emotions” and so on (though I genuinely love every song they have ever released). Their later albums come into the progressive elements moreso than their first few, but they are all great

    Noice! Been jamming this cool little ditty for 30 years now. Cannibal Corpse were not my introduction to Death Metal… Celtic Frost, Possessed, Death (the band), Obituary, and Morbid Angel were. The late 80s and early 90s were a great time to be a Metalhead because the up and coming bands were pushing the extremities to their absolute limits and it hard to find bands that are more extreme than this these days. Love that you’re not afraid of checking out Death Metal bands. Saw you have some Opeth reactions which I’m going to watch now that I finished watching all the Type O Negative reactions to date.
    Getting back to Cannibal Corpse, they are a Death Metal band bar-none. All their songs have this vocal style. This song was with their first singer, Chris Barnes, their current vocalist is George “Corpse Grinder” Fisher, who used to be in another Death Metal band called Monstrosity. The album this song is from, Tomb Of The Mutilated, is one of my favorite albums by them. Enjoying the channel so far but, I will be avoiding the Nu Metal reactions. No Slipknot or Mudvayne for me… ever. 🤢

    Ahahahah. I see your facial expressions and I had to laugh all the way. See, I can understand when people hear/listen to this kind of death metal for the first time, that they'll think 'What the feck?'. When you have grown into this genre through the years than you'd probably appreciate it, but it's a quite monotone way of growling. Also, if you intent to react to my request for this theme please don't search for a lyricvid. The visuals talk for themselves. The combi of music and visuals is scary enough 😊. However, cheers☕️🤘🖤

  • @ResurrectionDreams
    @ResurrectionDreams Год назад +8

    I think my first Cannibal Corpse "experience" was the movie Ace Ventura.
    Jim Carrey makes Cannibal Corpse (and Napalm Death) better. 😆
    And yes, all their songs have this type of vocal. This is pretty standard death metal (more old school) and most death metal vocalists use deep, more guttural growls similar to this. Some death metal vocalists are easier to understand though, it depends on the band/vocalist. Plus, the more you listen to the genre, you get used to it and it becomes easier to make out lyrics (sometimes).

    • @dypetrod4766
      @dypetrod4766 Год назад +1

      I would argue that there is a big difference in their vocals in the albums Eaten Back to Life and The Bleeding. These are albums where you can actually tell that they're singing actual words lol. I like them much better than anything from Tomb of The Mutilated.

    • @ResurrectionDreams
      @ResurrectionDreams Год назад +1

      @@dypetrod4766 That's fair, I get that. I just meant that death metal in general typically has gutteral, growling vocals. People that don't listen to it usually don't understand what is being said. But vocals can vary from album to album, even with the same singer. Obviously, you have Corpsegrinder too, who I think is easier to understand compared to Chris Barnes.

    • @dypetrod4766
      @dypetrod4766 Год назад +1

    • @ResurrectionDreams
      @ResurrectionDreams Год назад +1

      @@dypetrod4766 Yep. Slipknot is much easier to get into, but also kind of a gateway into more extreme stuff. Metal elitists like to crap on Slipknot, but I think they got a lot of kids interested in more extreme metal with self-titled and Iowa especially. That's the case for me at least. I used to hate death metal because of the vocals but it grew on me over time.

    • @dypetrod4766
      @dypetrod4766 Год назад +1

      @@ResurrectionDreams Very true. For this exact reason, my initial impression of the so-called "extreme" metal subgenres was a negative one. All I constantly heard was "tr00" metalhead types crapping on Slipknot, which was exactly the first "aggressive" type of band I had gotten into. Obviously, Slipknot is lighter and more commercial compared to death, thrash and black metal bands, but I never understood their claims that Slipknot is not heavy at all. Self Titled and Iowa actually have a more intense aggressive kind of atmosphere than many of these bands, especially if you consider songs like Eeyore and Scissors for example. This kind of thing gave me a hard time opening up my mind to other extreme bands at first, but once I got past that and stopped caring what others said about anything, I enjoyed these bands a lot.

    But that dosent take anything away from how good this song is and how talented this band is, cannibal corpse are definitely one of the Death Metal's greats.

    This is old-school death metal. Yes, all their songs sound like this, and most old-school death metal have vocals similar to this, though not always as low (and there are death metal bands with even lower growls, like Demilich!). I'd highly recommend checking out Death, as they were one of the key originators of the genre and later went on to influence progressive metal including bands like Opeth. Their guitarist/vocalist/songwriter tragically died of brain cancer in '01 but he's since become a legend in the underground metal world, and their lyrics (at least on their later albums) were actually quite good (thoughtful, interesting). Spirit Crusher is a great intro.

    So. I like the reaction as always, but...I don't know how most other fans feel about this song, but I see this as a bad introduction to someone who is unfamiliar with the band. I mean, it is their most well-known song, that one song that almost everyone knows even if they know nothing about the band itself, but they have much better material. In the album where this song is from (Tomb of the Mutilated), all songs are like this - kinda static and with incomprehensible vocals. But if you listen to anything from their first album (Eaten Back to Life) or their fourth one {The Bleeding), it's a drastic difference. You can actually hear words, even if you're not sure what words they are lol.
    My first "real" experience with Cannibal Corpse was through the album The Bleeding, which I purchased when I was 13. It's my favorite album to this day. The songs are much catchier and well produced, and if you listen to anything from this album, I believe you would actually enjoy it more than this song, if I understand your taste in music correctly lol. I know I like it much better.
    The lyrics have always had that "serial killer" kind of theme, but neither the band nor the fans really take it seriously. It's more of a joke, a meme. They describe systematic killings and general violence in their lyrics in such detail, as if they were trying hard to show that they're "experts in violence", that it ends up having a "funny" effect lol. In real life, they're total softies and real nice guys. Their current lead singer even likes collecting plush toys and has a wife and children.

Barnes is more intelligible on this record, but he's clearly at the top of the well of suck he fell into after a few years in Six Feet Under. Vile is my jam, though. Bam, bam, bam and the T-rex scream from hell is the perfect opening to a death metal record. Corpsegrinder 4 lyfe!

    Well, here's a band I never thought I'd see on this channel! My thoughts on this band: don't look up the lyrics, there's no need. You will not get any deep meaning or substance out of them. Actually, you may get some substances, but the kind that stain your clothes. The vocals tend to sound like this, yes. If you think about them as another instrument, it's better.
    Now, there are other death- bands with cool music, lyrics, and tolerable vocals. You did one with Lorna Shore, though those vocals are extreme. Like others said, I think Slaughter to Prevail may be a deathcore band that could end up on your playlist.
    I'm finally going to recommend a band to you that I am almost positive that you would love: Agalloch. They remind me a bit of Opeth, but personally I prefer Agalloch. Opeth is more death metal inspired and Agalloch is more black metal and folk metal. It's very atmospheric, they tend to throw in acoustic guitars frequently, and sometimes string instruments. Plus, you would love the music AND the depressing lyrics. There are some clean and harsh vocals, which is my only question mark for you. I would love for you to listen to "In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion". It's perfect for Halloween, Fall, or Winter.

    I don't want to know what you're saying in the lyrics but it's the song about smashing someone's head in with a hammer some parts of the lyrics say that lol I mean hes actually saying words you just gotta follow the lyrics along with the song when you're playing the song cause you can tell what you saying a little bit better a blind lesson or listen with just your ears you might pick up 3 words minimum they gotta read the lyrics as you singing cause then you'll notice saying lol and the live version is way better you should definitely check it out

    This vocals are a good example of why most people don`t like growls.....until they hear Mikael Akerfeldt's growls and then reconsider the subject. Also, you should check the video of Jim Carrey talking about being a fan of Cannibal Corpse (the band even appear in Ace Ventura 1, that bit is hilarious)

      Chris barnes early vocals are iconic, what death metal vocals should be, not that crap all of Deathcore vocalists do now, all of them sound the same

      @@DM-rc4yu No, not really, train the ear, when a vocalist use the normal death metal vocals, the sound of his actual vocals chords is distinguishible from other vocalists much more than what a Deathcore vocalist does with the Tunnel Throat technique which makes a sound more based on the force of air passing trough the Throat with great force and doesnt really get the sound of the actual vocal chords.

    To explain it quick: this song and all the others from that album have vocals really hard to understand because they’re kind of buried in the mix wich sucks in my opinion. There’s also the fact that the vocalist that recorded this song is no longer in the band since 1996 and his vocals were always really deep on those last years with the band. I wouldn’t recommend you this album since it has some really nasty lyrical themes that I myself don’t like to hear. Try "Staring through the eyes of the dead" it’s by the same vocalist but the vocals are better and the lyrics definitely bearable.

    Do reaction to Dimmu Borgir - Gateways: Live at forces of the northern light. That is a lot more appropriate to someone starting with metal than this and it might be very interesting

    two comments, agree with SALOMON comment, you shoul look up Ace Ventura Cannibal Corpse and second I prefer a lot more this style of singing rather than just screaming like many bands do today because he is actualy singing not just screaming like crazy.

    I think he was singing?? anyway i always disliked the vocals of Canibal corpse, they just got some very cool guiitar riffs in some songs, i think i only got 1 of their songs on playlist, and thats a instrumental piece with some dope riffs..

    Cannibal Corpse is all in good fun. The lyrics are gross, but they're gross in a B movie sort of way. It's the music equivalent of watching a slasher flick. That is sort of the appeal. If you want something that kinda captures that same thing thematically but is easier to digest I'm going to suggest the band Ghoul. They're a bit less death metal, a bit more thrash, but still bring a lot of tongue in cheek gore and splatter.
