Great bike, modern colour scheme. But in general I'm not so sure about high positioned rear shock cause of the bike's higher centre of mass. BTW I am a bit confused about UK, which is on an Island (therefore isolated). I live in Austria, and next Monday we are going to gym's again. Schools and malls already work. Greetings from Austria👋🙂
@@tristandesade8635 Harsh to rub it in. Which country -- Austria or UK -- has the largest aviation hub in the world? Plus UK has 2.5x population density. That said, the leader is pretty dense too. It's too bad good people have to deal with bad political decisions.
The SE looks nice - it would be good to see a comparison between this and the Kona HeiHei in a future test. I like the fact that more and more XC Marathon, Down Country bikes are hitting the market at the moment. It will be interesting to see what future this type of bike has in the UK market where, lets face it, people usually ride up and down the hill.
Great vid, thank you BR/John. All pretty delish bikes, I'd have the cheaper 120mm one for more capability. Most impressive was how they matched the head tube colour to your spare room!!
Interested to see how these XC/Downcountry bikes will compare to what is put on offer from Scott/Specialized/Orbea/Yeti/Etc. From what I see, I would have expected better cable management system (looks rattlely) and assuming they are still using plastic lockout lever from fox? Pricing/weight looks comparable anyway, hopefully good things to hear from the long term review, Cheers!
Yes, it does still have the Cannondale AI (Asymmetric Integration) back end which you can read more about in Tom's article here: www.bikeradar.com/news/new-cannondale-scalpel/
It's a 'weird dish' but it'd only 3mm, and it means you can get bigger tyres in with a much shorter chain stay, meaning it's fast and whippy. I like that. :)
@@jessvarey2597 my old scalpel had the 6mm dish but used a standard crank and ring so was not wider at the crank. The new model maybe wider at the crank.
Just got the se 1 and yes the 34 tooth chain ring maybe a tad to big for steeper climbs . 32 or even 30 maybe more appropriate . I think they wanted to keep the manufacturing process as similar as they can between the 2 versions but for the SE version they should have went with the smaller ring and I will downsize eventually
shame the SE version doesn't get to use a lefty as well. I would LOVE a cannondale with their hollowgram cranks and lefty - but I would want the extra travel still
It's not the rider weight that's the difference between an S and XL rider. It's the CoG height which impacts the antisquat values. With the same suspension geometry a shorter rider will have more effective antusquat than a taller rider. The 100 % antisquat value is defined by the CoG height.
Unfortunately my spare room is fairly small, increasing echo, and I'm far from a sound recording engineer. I'm doing my best, and we're working on a better solution as soon as possible.
Love Cannondale, always have... but; From my 2001 Cannondale F2000 ELO (Electronic Lock Out) Lefty, 2010 Cannondale Scalpel Carbon Team Replica, to my current 2015 Cannondale Trigger Carbon 2; All the Lefty's pulled to one side or another severly. Could never ride hands free for even 2 seconds!! Cannondale claimed it should ride just straight but that never happened...so for that reason alone I want to switch to a non-lefty bike! If anyone has a solution, please comment...
Nice bike, but good luck if you need support from Cannondale. Have been riding Cannondales since 1999. Now have a 2018 Scalpel Carbon 3. Rear hub failed in March. Have been trying to get parts support from Cannondale since. No response, and when they did response the information was wrong. Sad state of once iconic US bike company.
Beware: Read Cannondale’s fine print in their Limited Warranty Policy. They may use it against you for their best interest. My $5000.000 carbon fiber frame Jekyll broke after six years of use. Cannondale never made a finding that it was due to use or abuse. A hairline crack formed at a weak point in the frame. The bike was sold to me with a lifetime warranty on the frame. The best offer Cannondale gave me, under their lifetime warranty, was 20% off of retail - yes, that is right 20% off of retail. I fought them on it over a two month period and lost. So, I am now stuck with a 34lb paperweight. Cannondale has what I feel is the worse warranty in the bike business. If you do purchase a Cannondale bike and something goes wrong, know that they probably will not work with you at any level in your best interest. In my opinion, they do do not value you as a customer, they only value your money. This has been my experience.
I see Cannondale is still committed to the Lefty fork on their high end bikes. It may be a good fork and has its benefits, but it’s just so awkward and weird looking. I can say this: including myself, none of my riding buddies won’t buy Cannondale for this reason. I think they are sacrificing sales because of this. Rock Shox and Fox are practically industry standards for a reason.
Sound quality doesn't bother me in the slightest, socks and sandals though?!!! It's either socks or sandals never, never both, not unless you want to undo all the hard work you put in to the rest of the video. I like the decor though 👍
That was near 20 years ago, let it go! But seriously, that was likely a result of 'dale using super thin-wall alu tubing, chasing ever lighter frames... Looks like this new bike has beefier than usual seatstays to compensate for those chainstays?
Let us know in comments on what you think about the redesigned Cannondale Scalpel!
BikeRadar Forgot to mention, 👍 on the dual water bottles for a full suspension, 👎 on the weird QR/thru axle idea.

@@richcole3931 dang harsh but true
The candy red frame is clearly the best looking of the bunch - why the hell did they make this the Carbon 3 stock build?!
Looks very futuristic and really, really nice. And finally the Ocho doesn't look out of place like it did in the previous frame
Thanks for your comment, since you're the first, have 1,000,000 gold stars from all at BikeRadar!! ⭐️
Gorgeous. The SE looks like my perfect bike, though if I was buying a Cannondale I'd want the Lefty. Love the way they look.
I love the 1 second of loud music between sentences. Really adds to my viewing pleasure.

And vs Santa Cruz Blur TR
@@chrisgarty ... Why the Santa Cruz Blur TR, Santa Cruz has "never" made a good XC bike.
Please stop with the banal music every time there’s a pause in the talking...enough already!😫
And the plandemic covid BS. Its not hip or cool and real. turn your tv and radio off and think for yourself.
Where does one buy canal music?
Love the SE model.
Sooooo nice!!
Fits two bottles 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
And actually Lefty had 55mm offset long before head angles reached those 68.5 - that's just the way they like it I guess.

Yeah show us
Tom has some serious quarantine style going on.
I've been drawing inspiration from Jack Luke 🙏🏻

What's the gearing on the cassette 11-32?
10-51 for Shimano 12 speed now
The question we all want to know is: Did they paint the bike to match Tom's spare room, or vice versa?
Tom's house interior is a huge inspiration for the paint scheme of many bikes brands.
If there's a model between 3k and 4k I'm in!
About lefty ocho weight... lets weight sid and fox with thru axle, like ocho.
It’s the Cannondale Time Machine that takes you back to 2015.
Looks sleek. How would it compare to a Trek Supercaliber? Im more interested in the Supercaliber.
Unfortunately we're yet to be able to ride a supercalibre - I'm trying though!
Can a.I fit the new ohco fork on my 2013 carbon one scaple lefty 29er
Rode it earlier, feels a lot more planted than the Scalpel SI very Super Caliber like.
is it the same frame across the whole range of spec?

Damn that's a beauty.
why do cannondale carbon frames not have that crispy look others do? They looks like they've been in the sun too long idk
like Ibis
Cannondale with Lefty Echo in the room :)
I just cant see the point with the strange downtube if the shock is not fasten there.. just dont understand the design at all.
Water bottle space?
Looks amazing
Cannondale comparing this to the Top Fuel seems ridiculous when the Supercaliber is what the Scalpel will be facing off against from Trek.

Not sure about those flat stays they look vulnerable.
Concern that flexible carbon fiber over extended use develops micro cracks and weak spots.
I'm concerned. Should I be tucking my t-shirts into my shorts now too?
A 1.9 kg frame is significantly heavier than the Scott spark 1.8 kg frame.
said the feather to the gum wrapper.
