    There are several channels that have focused a lot of time in Iceland and the volcanic activity there,,, but I am so glad that I found this one!! Clear and precise explanations that are easy to understand, and so many visually stunning videos too! The before and after videos are a requirement when dealing with volcanoes, in my opinion!
    Everyone gets a volcanology lesson, a sightseeing tour, and sometimes a day in the life from someone that calls Iceland home! I also get a little chuckle from time to time,,, wondering about things like,, are there any short or easy to pronounce words in the local language?? I can't help but think, how many times I would have been held back in school, if I was a student there?? I feel like Homer Simpson right now! Lol. 😮😢😂😂😊
    P.S. Thank you for making our days better!

    Hverfjall, Herðubreið, Askja… these are my top 3 places to visit if I ever make it to Iceland, I know the coast and especially south coast and southwest corner seem to be most popular but the northeast-ish highlands are where it’s at if you ask me. Askja especially now that it’s going to be shaking things up, Herðubrieð and Hverjall though look absolutely spectacular from all the photos and video I’ve seen, the size of Hverfjall alone especially in contrast to the small town nearby, just breathtaking. I hope I see all of them in person some day, but until then thank you for your channel so I can go on virtual tours!

    Good evening Gylfi,
    Greetings from the Netherlands.
    What a magnificent landscape. Lucky you to have all these wonderful landscapers at your doorstep.
    My country is quite boring compared to Iceland, flat as a pancake apart from some hills in the southeast.
    Stay safe.

    • @KatlaJokulsdottir
      @KatlaJokulsdottir 14 дней назад +1

      As far as landscape is concerned, yes. But on the other hand, Netherlands have quite a few beautiful old towns, which Iceland quite definitely lacks. I mean, some 250 years ago, Reykjavík had 200 inhabitants and the next two settlements, namely the bishop sees, about 100 each. And the number of stone buildings more than 200 years old you can probably count on your fingers; most buildings were turf huts and then a handful of wooden houses for the Danish merchants.
      Let's just say, a country without volcanoes and steep slopes and hot springs can still have some other rather nice stuff to look at 🙂

    • @palantir135
      @palantir135 14 дней назад

    • @palantir135

      @ the Netherlands has more beauty on the cultural side and Iceland more on the raw nature side you mean.

    • @KatlaJokulsdottir
      @KatlaJokulsdottir 13 дней назад +1

      @@palantir135 Well, Iceland has a lot of cultural beauty as well, but then in literature, not so much in architecture. But as regards architecture, in my view the Netherlands easily beat Iceland. (I like old brick houses and grachten.) It's also a nice place for cycling of canoeing along water with reeds and windmills and flowers - not breathtaking and spectacular, but still beautiful in a quiet sort of way.
      And yes of course as far as raw landscape is concerned, Iceland obviously beats the Netherlands. The one bit of landscape drama in the Netherland is the threat of storm surges...
      In a way, Iceland and (parts of) the Netherlands both "should" be sea floor and are just land by queer coincidence, Iceland being essentially a part of the mid-ocean ridge that piled up beyond sea level thanks to the hotspot, and the Netherlands being proteced artificially against the sea.
