Thanks Jon, I ordered the Quarq 9100 model and Dura Ace Rings for my Ultegra 8100 set up knowing this will work. Thanks for being the first person to show it off!
Wow, thanks for going through the pain of testing AXS cassette on 12 speed Di2. There is a ton of misinformation out there regarding this exact combo, especially on Reddit. A lot of people say it works flawlessly. I had a bunch of parts in my Amazon cart and was about to drop a mint on something that had no chance of working. Seeing a video on exactly how poorly it performs was eye opening. You just saved me a bunch of heartache, money, and especially time! Thank you so much.
Please address the issue of running shimano 12spd cassettes with Sram derailleurs. This is vital, because not all wheels have xdr freehub options and shimano 12spd are backwards compatible with HG freehub bodies. If people want to upgrade to 12spd SRAM, such mix would be a go to option. I would also try SRAM flattop and eagle 12spd mtb chain to work with 12spd shimano cassettes. Hope you can make it happen 😉🤞
@@jonmaloneycycling7593 any updates on compatibility testing? No need for detailed video, just say if shimano 12spd cassette works with SRAM AXS drivetrain (what chain would be best for this). I'm about to buy ultegra 8100 cassette and would like to have a confirmation, since you have both drivetrains at hand
@@samarskyriderI’ve seen a guy doing the test (GC performance) and it works great. I would choose the chain compatible with the cassette (Shimano cassette + Shimano chain)
@@antoineviard4580 Thanks for belated reply. I'm running this combo (SRAM RD + 12spd Shimano Cassette / Chain) since May 2022. Works okay except for front shifting, but this could be due to aftermarket Praxis 12spd chainrings
I've got the question, if it's possible to run the shimano 11 speed chainrings on Sram red AXS, because I've got a QUARQ Dfour powermeter and that way I wouldn't need to buy a new one. Thanks for the nice videos!
Great video! The shimano 12 spd cassette on the 12 spd AXS group set would be really interesting. Love my older eTap for the way you shift, but I really don’t like the new gear ratios on the AXS groupset, so if I could use AXS shifters and mechs on more standard chainring/cassette options would be super handy
@@jonmaloneycycling7593 I have to second Lee Sutton's comment/request above. I'd love to see the following: 1) Shimano Chain, 2) Shimano Cassette, and 3) "normal" 11/12 speed chainring ratios (50/34, 52/36), all coupled w/ the AXS front and rear derailleurs. A "Sramano" road setup, if you will. This would give more normal gear ratios, and potentially give better options to those with older 11 speed freehubs & existing power meters, etc., who want to upgrade to wireless shifting. Would also theoretically give more chain options to 12 speed users - KMC, Connex, Shimano, etc.
I've tried this today. Force axs front and rear mech. Shimano 8100 cassette and xtr chain. Everything works fine and all gears are smooth except gear 4 which chatters. Has anyone tried this successfully
I have two Quarq DZero power meters. Now I am contemplating if I’ll be able to run them on AXS 12spd drivetrain. Or if anyone makes 12spd chainring with 5 bolts 110 and 130 BCD.
hi Jon, can i ask something about mix sram and shimano set up? i have a vintage bike eddy merckx with italian thread BB. so far it works with Grx Crankset. but i want to change my crankset with sram red axs 12s crankset. all my groupset (RD-FD-Brifter) use shimano ultegra r8000 11 speed. So, is it possible? if yes, what’s chain and cassette should i use if i want to still use ultegra derailleur with sram red axs 12s? Thanks
Hello, I've found lots of interesting info on your videos, thanks a lot. Would the new dura ace 9200 groupset work with the 9000 chainrings (11 speed 2 gens before)? Thanks!
Thanks for another great video, Jon! I have a trainer question for you. I noticed that you weren’t using the updated through axle adapters on your Kickr. Have you had any issues with them scuffing on the dropouts? I have the new adapters from SRAM, and my bike fits great on the trainer. However I do experience small scuffing from time to time when mounting the bike and the trainer. Take care.
So you’ve experienced some scuffing from getting the wheel in and out? Same here. I actually put at protective patch on the left chainstay where the rotor was making contact when would remove the wheel. It really helped. Little scratches bug me…but our bikes are tools, not jewels and they’re gonna get “love marks” when we use them 😉👍🏻
I was searching for this demonstration for a very long time since my dream setup would be a 12 speed drivetrain composed of a 10-33 cassette with a single front chainring of 44 or 46 teeth. Now I know that Sram offers this setup but I hate their brakes and batteries system so I would go with Shimano for the rest. The only possibility would be a Sram 12 speed cassette with a Sram chain and the R9270 derailleur and levers so my question is; why does the sram 12 speed chain shifts so poorly on a sram 12 speed cassette when combined with a 12 speed Shimano derailleur? Also, I noticed the cassette on the trainer looked like a basic 12 speed Sram cassette instead of the 1290 one that you used on the stand; do you believe it could change something in the shift performance? Edit: do you believe the shifting could be better with a MTB Eagle chain instead of the flat top 12 speed road chain?
I'm thinking the exactly same set up like your (9250 with red axs chain&cassette) ! So have you tried this? Have you manage to solve the shifting issues Thanks
Very interested to see if shimano 11speed cassette will fit the shimano 12speed hubs. I know the other way around works i.e. 12 speed cassette will fit 11speed hub.
