I learned how to touch type my freshman year in high school. I remember having to look down and use my index fingers just to type a single sentence. I'm now in my second year of college and I'm proud to say that I type 120 wpm. It just takes lots of practice and repetition, and you'll be typing without looking at the keyboard in no time.

My problem is a little different. I've been typing while looking at the keyboard for so long that I type much faster while looking at the keyboard than some of friends who don't look. And In the process, subconsciously, I've memorized most of the keyboard but it's not actual memory, just my finger knows the region or location of each key but it's not really precision. Anyone else have this problem?

I think everyone could learn typing fast with touch method, you just have to put some time to it, me myself was typing maybe 20 wpm when I was using the two fingers so I decided to learn touch method and I learned it. In 2 weeks I could type for 50-60 words per minutes.

Around 1996 I started to teach myself to type without looking at the keyboard or my hands. Today, I can type 42 WPM, but its just the letters. I never focused on the numbers, symbols, or number keypad. I have been at this same 42 WPM without looking for at least 20 years. I just can't seem to get past this -- even with just the letters. I feel like there is something I am doing wrong that is preventing me for moving past this point.
