hi there. It is the first time I have written a comment on your channel. I used to only read academic books at school and nothing else. But in a few recent years, I have been reading other types of books a lot. With the advance of technology, of course, I can facilitate reading through a digital platform but I prefer reading a book traditionally. I love its smell and how excited I am to buy a new one and read for the joy of it and keep it forever. Also, reading a book creates for me an attention span that I really appreciate, it doesn't matter where I am, I can concentrate and dive into every single word. However, as a student who is going to take an IELTS exam soon, I have to practice skimming and scanning skills after several suggestions from experts. I think reading, either with a physical book or with a kindle/on screens, is equally great. It's important to find what suits you and your situation. For example, when I really need to read a book and I don't want to wait for its delivery, I opt for the kindle version. It just works beautifully. I used to be torn over this dilemma, but now it's no longer an issue for me.

Here is a big advantage to reading books: many of them were written before the internet, and consequently, there was a higher standard of writing in order to be published. Today, anyone can put something on a screen. There are many errors in syntax, word choice, spelling...there is a long list of writing failures today. Read the classics of English literature from UK and American authors, and you will have a far greater understanding of the language. For example, I am learning French and Spanish, and my learning will include many books from the last century in order to give me additional perspective about the cultures and the words the authors chose to use.

i want to read from books but it's been like over a few months since the last time i opened a book. and it was because i was watching an online class it requires a novel as the textbook. deep in my heart i do want to spend more time reading books, i really do. but for the most part i just read from screens as the host said cause we use phones everyday and it's natural that human nowadays read screens more than books. if i could, i like always to use a book dictionary,(i have an oxford dictionary for many years and i do look it up from time to time), i bought so many novels and other english learning books. i wanna try to read for the joy of it. i want to let the books fill the void in me. i hope, in someday(not far away), i could check all of my books. i knew 6 minute english from an app when i was in high school, now im in my 20s, i'm this show still goes on, this is the most long-running english podcast i've know and it is still very useful to me. i still have a long way to go.

Jeremy had a low attention span because he always skimmed through books, and at his book club, he always made terrible inferences about the book he just read. On the surface level, he seemed to understand the story of the books, but if you ask him some questions about the book, he can never answer them correctly. People at his book club often made the analogy that he was like a rock as they thought Jeremy was extremely stupid. Jeremy read books not for the joy of it, but to get more authentic English because his vocabulary was so terrible.
