    I worked at Disney during high school and college. I started two months after opening. My first job was as a Monorail Operator for 3.5 years. I was the youngest in the Monorail position, at 17. I was selected, along with five others, as opening trainers and leads at Space Mountain. We arrived in September 1974, four months before the official opening on January 15, 1975. It was still a construction site. We wrote an SOP, qualified ourselves, and then Tomorrowland management. We had to train about 180 cast members before opening. I stayed there for one year. A friend who had been an hourly Monorail Operator was now a Tomorrowland Supervisor. She suggested I might want to go to work for her brother, who was the Manager of Cash Control. I was a teller and Vault Teller.
    I left in April 1979 to begin a 37-year career at American Airlines.
    Now, forty-six years later, on December 24, 2023, I received a Christmas card from my friends at Disney.

    Thank you so much for sharing your journey in Disney . You showed it in a positive light , but you are telling us some of the reality of the position. I have a cousin who worked for Disney from the mid 70s to 2008. She started as a Monorail operator and finished in Casting. I think she met her husband there. He worked as a chef in Biengarten. They did not choose to leave, they were laid off in 2008 during the economic slowdown at the time. I am happy you were and still are pursuing a career that you have a passion for. Nothing worse than to be in a job that you hate and dread everyday. I know, I have been there. Again, thank you for sharing. Looking forward to your next vlog and enjoy yourself in my home away from home, Saratoga Springs.

I was kind of disappointed she didn’t jump up and down for me to stay but she was right. My sister in law worked for Disney Corporate and said it was extremely difficult to move up. I hope the CP comes back someday - it was the best experience of my life.

    Thank you for the glimpse into working at Disney. I would think just having Disney in your resume will be a benefit in whatever job you apply for. Thank you for the tip on not tipping the cast members and handing them a " thank you card " instead. They add so much to the enjoyment of my visit to the parks and Disney resorts.

    • @eliaswedway658
      @eliaswedway658 3 года назад +1

      The possible plus/advantage of having Disney on your resume varies greatly due to various factors. The role you held, the time in that role and the geographic location of where the position you are applying to, all matter. In central FL, those that can list Disney employment on their resume is a dime a dozen. There are literally thousands upon thousands of residents in central FL that can do so. Therefore it is not that impressive unless you held a very high upper level position. Disney employment listed on a resume for someone applying for a position outside FL, generally holds much greater weight One advantage of having Disney employment on your resume for a local hourly or entry level positions is: if a stable and established employment record is evident, it is a definite positive because it is well known that when you work for Disney-----You work ! I have been a full time WDW cast member for almost 10 years. I have worked in both parks and resorts in various depts. I can honestly say it is the most unique employment experience you can have. It has it's definite pros and cons. Even the difference from working at parks vs resort is huge. The difference between seeing Disney through the eyes of a guest vs an employee is also huge. But it's an experience that I would not trade for the world and I'm so grateful to have. When my grandchildren, who will tell you that I work for Mickey, lol, give me messages to rely to their favorite characters---because they KNOW I work with them!!!!! It makes everything in balance.

After 3 years I left Disneyland then later came back. Both times i was a ride operator. After about 6 years I started working for Disney Corp. Then went back to Disneyland as a R.S.T. I transferred to WDW as a R.S.T and later became a C.R.S.T. after 29 years of service I retired. I think Disney is a wonderful place to work. I loved it and the people I worked with. I remember when your dad came to Disney World and you drove home after your first CP to go back to college. You and your dad looked like you had so much fun together.

    Main Street Parade and Audience Control🥰 MS PAC was my role on my CP 2008
    Disney has black outs for Cast Members?! When did that start? That sucks. We used to go all the time, practically every day.

    My Aunt has worked for Disney for 32 plus years. She loves it! But everyone has to do what is best for them. Side note..... I personally think you would make an amazing prince charming at Disney.
