Live a life without going to the big easy? I hope you do get to go at least once. Maybe not try to challenge Mardi Grau, your first, second, third or fourth trip.😅 Late fall is good time to go, things are cheap for a big city (to my perception.) Check weather, about a month before, keep a little play in the date of visit, and you can visit the big easy on days that are like perfect spring days up north, and it will be late October/ early November with snow on the ground up north.
Thank you for getting to the Confederate memorial Hall they've got one of the five battle flags made I can't remember the whole story it is such a treasure trove I thank you so much for highlighting it the people running it are some of the best people that jhe museum are some of the best people thank you so much for highlighting it !!!!!!
I was there many, many years ago. So glad that they were able to reopen after Hurricane Katrina. I think I remember reading that they might be closing after that due to funding. Hopefully they are on sound footing now.
Garry, what a great video of what looks like an outstanding museum that's a must-see for any Civil War aficionado. I'll definitely get down there. I know my wife won't mind, because there's a gift shop. 😃 That said, I hope there aren't people whose heads will explode because of a museum showing the Confederacy. History is history. It's very important to study it, not cancel it.
Very sad that there is animosity towards the Confederacy. The war was fought over so much more than just the "slavery" narrative. I'm sure you understand this, it breaks my heart seeing our history being destroyed and mocked. God bless to you and your wife!
I always wanted to go to New Orleans. It always seemed to me, to be a bit in the Old World, and part in the New World. I'm thankful that these videos are available, for a lot of people, who may not be able to fulfill their goals.
1) Gary has an indoor voice?? 2) I can’t see Gary throwing hands when he’s behind the camera. 3). Thank you for sharing part of this historical collection!
I live near New Orleans and interference this place often as a “best kept secret” in New Orleans. I appreciate this video. Thank you for creating and sharing this!
GARRY !!!! I was there a year ago I stumbled across it because it's behind the WWII museum which is also amazing. If you read the stories that go along with some of the items, they are truly riveting! A lot of the Unit Flags were given back to the museum after the turn of the century They were taken at the surrender of the confederacy Great Video!
I found this museum 8 years ago while attending a reunion for my first ship, USS Dahlgren DLG-12, while serving in the Navy back in the early 70's. It is probably the best Civil War museum I have been to.
Incredible! Thanks so much for sharing, Gary and crew. Politically irrelevant but I always thought the south's officer's coats with their neck and sleeve insignia were so much better looking/stylish than the north's.
I visited there about 7 or 8 years ago but couldnt find it on my last visit, I was afraid it had been closed down. I dont live far from NOLA so need to visit the museum again. One thing that struck me with the uniforms was how small they were. Another thing, look at the building and it very much looks like a church inside which I imagine was deliberate in 1891.
That is a fantastic museum, just the way I like them with lots of artefacts and excellent explanations. To top off a brilliant day, the World War 2 museum is just around the corner. Who could ask for more?
The Confederate Memorial Hall is only a couple of blocks from the National WW2 Museum which is an embarassment of historical wealth. It should be noted that the museum itself and its displays are an artifact itself. You do not see that style of displays in wooden cases much any more. Interestingly enough, the gun outside (a Rodman IIRC) is placed upside down. This is because the left trunnion is broken off (probably when Spanish Fort was abandoned) and the gun is placed in a way that hides that defect. Also, when I was there a few years ago I was impressed by the gift shop. Very high quality for a small museum.
I will visit the Museum next Year! Too bad you didn't mention the great Confederate Museum in Market Hall in your report on Charleston SC, which is worth a visit, as well as the place where the first shot of the Civil War was fired. I think that's part of it. Otherwise great report.
Kids these days don't get taught about the civil war. It's up to the parents to do it. Nether one of my kids didn't know anything about the civil war. They was taught about civil rights. I had to teach me kids about the great Robert E Lee and the others. I have took my kids to Shiloh. They seen the nice graves of the union soldiers and the mass graves for our southern soldiers. It's best that you teach your children and not the school. That way they won't get taught the lie's they telling.
Thank you sir for sharing the truth with your children. I wish I could shake your hand and give you a hug👍 Checkout Donald Livingston on RUclips, he has some great lectures on the civil war and our history in general if you are ever interested. H.K. Edgerton also has some good videos on RUclips, God bless!
They've tried, someone tried to set the museum on fire but ended up cracking the front porch. There's iron bars and a gate around the porch and then a reinforced iron door covering the wood door.
Well, I'm a Pennsylvania man, and I had two great-grandfathers, who served in the War. Yes, you read that right... I was a Civil War reenactor, (42nd PVI, Co.B. "Bucktails ") for over ten years. I personally don't have any animosity towards those who fought. We could talk forever about the moralizing of the Confederate cause, the slaves, the reasons, why's, and wherfores of everything. Yes, it was a horrible time, and the best side won. If, you're going to find out where you're going... You've got to find out, where you've been... If, we forget our past, we will end up repeating it.
Your tour was too fast poorly done and it looks unscripted . I was kind of excited when I saw the girls but because u moved so fast I got dizzy and I thought u wasted my time, thanks for nothing
You gotta excuse that dute, he starts foamin' at the mouth when he gets near a battlefield. In museums, he ain't much better. I've told him, in other videos to give up coffee with caffeine. 'Cause dude your wound up tighter than an eight day clock.
Civil War museums are some of the most fascinating places on this planet.
Indeed!
Great! I was there 10 years ago with my soldiers of 14th Louisiana Regiment after battle at Gettysburg.
Thank you.
ermmm?
Beauregard's uniform coat at 8:47 is captivating, Thanks for the vid.
I’ve been to New Orleans so many times how am I just now hearing about this place!
Proud to be a Founding Member of the American Battlefield Trust and Civil War Trust.
Dang! That museum packs a punch. Thanks for the walkthrough. 👊🏻
My goodness, what an incredible collection, and so many items in such excellent condition. Kudos to the conservators on staff there!!!
This place is a treasure trove of knowledge and information. So glad a place like this exists and the educational value is immense.
So glad they got their asses kicked and the museum is the only thing left. Wonderful indeed!!!!
@@MrBigmurf1971 You just gotta love trolls. Especially when their comment makes no sense. Well, it would if you are on a 3rd grade reading level.
@@fateagle4life He does have a point, the pro-slavery crowd got slapped so hard they became a museum...
Awesome museum well worth a visit flag collection 2nd to none
Thank you, Garry! Not sure if we'll ever make it down that way, so it's wonderful to be able to take a little tour with you.

By the way the Confederate Museum is only about a hundred yards from the WWII museum

Without the issue of slavery, there would have been no War Between the States of the North and South
This is precisely where materials from the Confederacy belong- in museums, not public parks and squares.
What an amazing museum. Thanks for showing us
My dad always took me to civil war forts when I was a kid. If he had taken me here I would have freaked! Thanks

Enjoying these videos so much. Thanks for taking us along 😊
Thank you so much, it was closed the several times I was there.
A superb museum. I'd love to visit it again.

I'm putting this place on my list to visit.
I donated leather items to this and the Franklin Battlefield Museum. They were found around Franklin and Port Hudson Battlefields.

Jefferson Davis body was held " in state " at memorial hall.

Holy crackpot Batman, there's a history denier in here.
It's a good thing the confederates got slapped so hard they turned into museums...
Surprised the woke crowd hasn't shut it down yet...

Did you have a plane to catch, or something. Slow down dude !!

Don't think I feel right about memorializing slavers.

Museums concerning this topic should exist, but unfortunately some of them are run by the wrong people, who simply don't get it.
the civil war was caused by alot of OTHER things. i'm from TN and that misconception is way to common... also slavery is bad dont get the wrong idea
