what I like about Floor Jansen is their humility. She knows that she is a world class singer and yet she has no starry and is so down to earth

@@CUTnPASTEreacts Floor only has 1 year of classical training and she says she doesn't really like it too much, but I still love her voice, I think it's great. Whether it's her head voice, clean chest voice, or raspy voice and even death growls. She is just incredible :)

Yes, she's super sweet and humble. One of the moments you realize Floor is just a normal humanbeing is after she performed with Epica and leaves the stage with an awkward woohoo. Goddess in performances and so normal in a lovely way when she's not performing. Damn, I love that woman!
@@black4pienus Oh yes, I saw that! It was adorable! Also, there are times in live concerts where she can be a bit awkward with hyping up the crowd (ex. Stargazers at Tampere, Slaying the Dreamer at Buenos Aires) or during her live stories where she unintentionally makes puns and realizes it and it really makes her a lot more approachable and vastly down-to-earth.
If I'm not mistaken, this was the first song of season 2019, so everyone was still trying to figure out "who is who." They know now. haha.
It's important to remember that the only people on the show that actually knew about her were Tim Akkerman (the smiling curly haired guy who knew her from After Forever days) and Henk Poort (who had a general idea about the level of talent he's about to witness). There's also a funny moment after her performance where people go "How am I ever going to sing after hearing something like that?" Hearing Henk Poort was also one of the reasons Floor started singing, so performing in front of him had to be quite a bit stressful for her.
The producers of the show, however, knew exactly what they were doing, having Floor perform both the opening song of the show (this one) and the closing song of the show (last episode, duet with Henk Poort).
The most telling episode, however, was the episode where everyone else sang for her. Everyone was extremely nervous (except Henk Poort) and tried their absolute best to impress her. The funny part was pretty much everyone went "Well, I can't possibly replicate what you're doing, but here's my version. I really really really hope I don't screw up and ruin the song and really really really hope you like it".
Wow, I just recorded a reaction to all of her performances on the show, but I didn't think to do it for their performances back to her. I think I'll check those out tonight, probably won't react to them though. I will post the other reactions as soon as I can edit them. ✌️✌️

This was the opening song of the whole season. The only one that had any clue about Floor was Tim Akkerman(curly haired guy). The rest, she was a blank slate. Even the host had to Google her to get some info. She set the bar. An all the rest knew it. It really showed the night it was Floor's turn "on the couch". All the other singers really brought their A+ game to impress Floor. Henk especially. He went against 40+ years of training and against everything he knows is correct singing. To look at her at the end an ask with a look "hope that didn't suck". Doing a version of sound of silence. The whole show was amazing. Especially the finally. All of them are great performers. An the band is awesome.
Blank slate, apart from the 3 months all participants had to study each other, pick a song to do, practice it, etc. But, yeah, big difference between researching someone on youtube and having her right in front of you singing live.

Fun fact: Before Beste Zangers, nobody in the Netherlands knew her, the following year she received a Dutch music award for her life's work and everyone knows her.
kinda crazy, i'm getting all kinds of comments stating the opposite, that she was known in the Netherlands and all of the artists new her work. But more people saying that she wasn't known. I'm just enjoying her performances ✌️✌️
@@CUTnPASTEreacts Before their appearance at Beste Zangers they played in stadiums, but Holland is a densely populated country. Although the stadiums can therefore be filled well, they weren't sold out. After their appearance, it was them.
@@CUTnPASTEreacts An example: The album Endless Forms most beautiful reached number 3 on the album charts for 17 weeks. Next door in Germany they reached second place for 30 weeks. But metal doesn't appear in the mainstream media in either country (except for Wacken in Germany). It did not exist in public. Only the best Zangers bring them into the mainstream. The current album hasn't changed though. That too went twice as well in Germany as in the Netherlands.

Fun fact: Henk was the "Grand old man" that season, and up to the start of the singing, he went around friendly teasing the others of how they were going to do opera style for him.
Floor started the show..... As you just witnessed.
When Floor started in Nightwish 2012 as a stand-in, she sang old Nightwish songs - which you have seen a couple of, in the Wacken 2013 show. She made then her own of course - with Tuomas's blessings.
I the Wembley and Tampere 2015 shows, most of the songs were written to Floor's voice and capabilities - which you will discover.
On the Decades Tour in 2018, Buenos Aires, it is kind of "best of Nightwish" through the 2 decades, and Floor is doing old songs - but put through her own interpretation and vocal machinery.
On the new album, Human Nature, Tuomas has written all the songs directly to all 3 Nightwish singers (Floor, Marco and Troy) - including their phenomenal harmonies - and for the first time Tuomas was able to challenge Floor - which she absolutely loves (best and only way to get better and evolve) - and the album is a genuine masterpiece - but only as a studio up til now - with 1 exception!!

How is the Heart. Troy and Floor from a promotion tour this spring - Troy calls Floor's voice for "Stratospheric" - and the expression on his face in the end is pure confirmation.
It is an extremely voixe technical difficult song to perform - but you can't see it. Floor breath control and microphone handling when she gives full throttle are insane.
Tuomas, called the modern Mozart, are probably the happiest composer in this galaxy - no boundaries, no limits, just use the imagination and creativity way beyond anyone else - Floor, Marco and Troy delivers everything even better than he could imagine.
Just enjoy - but you will be addicted - just like the rest of us.

And that's how they all fell in love with Floor's voice❤
She went to a very different environment then Nightwish's shows, she sang only songs of other musical genres, and without the direct support of the fans, without the audience. She has proven her undeniable value on her own, without anyone's help. And as you can see, her interpretation had the elegance of a real jewel. The show was broadcast in the fall, although it was filmed in the spring, so nothing live, it was not possible to "intervene" in any way. We Nightwish fans from all over the world watched every week (with emotional reactions, like on a tournament of the favorite team on the opponent's field) the online episodes without translation, and through the effort of a Dutch fan, Denise H., who exposed herself by violating copyright, in the following days we watched the episodes with English subtitles, in YT (or in DM, when they were blocked in YT). Memories full of emotion, to which you are now part :)

The Merry Widow is an operetta composed by an Austrian composer Franz Lehar 😉. All the Floor's performances (and some of the other's too) on this show are excellent. Floor has sung fluently in 8 languages: English, Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Italian and Latin. She's a miracle, and we know it.

AFAIK Henk Poort's mother was an opera singer and she used to sing this song to him. So this was a nice shoutout from Floor and Henk got really emotional.

You right, this was a magical moment in the show, and a live-change moment for Floor. It was the first song from the season and had an extraordinary impact. And yes, you should see all further Floor performances from this show, all off them are brilliant.
Funfact: In 2017 Nigthwish started a sabbatical year because of the birth of Floors daughter. Tuomas uses it to found Auri with his wife and Troy and to release an album. The idea existed back in 2010 and it's a mixture of folk, pop and film music. It is the ingredients that Tuomas usually throws into the large metal pot and Nightwish brews songs from them. Markro collects all the songs and ideas that did not make it on a Nightwish album and releases a heavy metal album under his name, first in Finnish, later in English. Of course he's the main singer. Floor digs out a 10 year old hard rock album that she wrote 10 years ago between After Forever and ReVamp with a co-writer. The two rework it again and publish it as Northward. The corona pandemic is having its first consequences: Auri II was completed in October 2020 and is awaiting publication. At the beginning of the pandemic, Floor had announced that she had been requested for Northward II. She also had other projects on her mind. Since then it's been quiet ...

For the ones that don't know: Jan Smit (the host) says (around 4:04) he is, ""of course, touched in advance" just because Floor is gonna sing in German. He says this because, being a singer himself, he has performed in German and Germany very often.

Great reaction again C. - I'm over 60 years old man from Finland and I started really listening to Nightwish only a couple of years ago when I found their music and Floor from RUclips (yep Finland, and I hadn't listened them before, I know!). There's something unexplained in her voice. It somehow resonates inside of me. I don't get those chills with any other artists. And Floor's stage presence is unbelievable. You just can't get your eyes off her. On top of all that, she is a very modest, kind and down-to-earth person in everyday life (just check her own videos from her channel). All that and the ingenious songs by the mastermind Tuomas Holopainen + the highly talented, family-like band members who always seem so happy on stage. I couldn't dream of anything better. Ever since I started listening and watching them, I have had to get my daily dose of Nightwish and/or Floor. - More please.
Thanks for the feedback, and I agree with you I don't think there is an artist alive that gives me goosebumps right now on a regular basis. The only other that did it this often was Freddie Mercury. All of Floor's performances on this show were wonderful. You are correct about this one. Only Tim Akkerman (curly hair) new anything about Floor's ability. However he did not know she could do opera. All of them were somewhat shocked by her vocal talent. This was the first performance for the season of this show. Needless to say. Floor set the bar very high and got the show off to an epic start. Three of Floor's performances charted to #1 in the Netherlands during the show. They all know who she is now. She has 5 sold out shows scheduled (may be postponed) for this December in The Netherlands. Loved your reaction to this beautiful song. Her next performance was a folk song that she sang for Samantha (The woman who laughed). It is called "Mama", and she sung it in Dutch. See you then my American/Pole friend. Peace.

This was everyone's, save for Tim, first introduction to Floor, if you think they were blown away after this....just wait til she has them all crying like babies or standing up screaming, arms in the air.
Every song she performs in this show is awesome. The amazement is still there every song. The other singers are also very good and worth looking at. Can't wait for your reaction to Floor and Henk doing Phantom of the Opera.
Nice reaction. I am Dutch and you are dead on. They did not know what hit them. To be honest I am one of the Dutch that did not know her until this show. By now I am a total Nightwish fan and hope to see Floor perform solo with this 'beste zanger' band (incl Henk Poort) in Amsterdam. I have tickets to see her in December. In May Nightwish will be in town and I am on a permanent ticket-watch for that. Both Nightwish and Floor are huge in Holland now (finally). Selling out huge venues in no-time. Let's hope it will actually happen: Covid....jada jada...
The amazing thing about Floor on this show, aside from dominating the others (except Henk), is that she sang in four different languages (German, Dutch, Spanish, English).
Don't forget that Henk Poort is the master and can sing many voices. He is a Rembrandt. simply the best of the best. And Floor adores him just like everyone else in the Netherlands. If he says you are good then you are someone.
Couple of pointers:
1. This song was the first song that was performed on the first episode of last years season. Tim Akkerman's reaction ( the bearded guy with the beard and curly hair and black shirt: at the end: "Oh my God and we still have to do the whole season!" is surprising because he definately knows what Floor's all about because back in the day they bumped into each other on numerous occaisions in the festival circuit in the Netherlands prior to Floor joining Nightwish.
2. Henk Poort is also aware of Floor's vocal abillities but his amazement is shaped because he - like Floor - is classically trained. Henk is a famous baritone who sings opera, operette and musicals and his awe is more because of appriciation as a classical singer towards a fellow classically trained vocalist. Which makes his reaction even better in my opinion.
3. Shock and awe for the rest of the couch. And not only on set but also at home. Floor definately got her accolades after this show. She did a sold out solotour in the Netherlands, Nightwish show in the 17.000 seater Ziggodome was sold out in a blinck of an eye - second announced after that and yup - i bumped out for tickets on that one as well. And to top it off - Floor Jansen was granted the Popprize early January for her contribution to Dutch music internationally.

It isn't surprising that you feel a bit of vicarious or empathetic vindication for her because she has had quite a journey in her career up to that point. I think this series was important to her on a personal level because she finally broke through in her own country after years of success elsewhere. She experienced bullying coming up and definitely paid her dues as she made a go of it as a singer in the Netherlands. So the vindication here is real and it was indeed very much a success story, as you'll see more of if you watch more episodes of that show.
I definitely still have that feeling for her. But i also think i was a bit to hard on the other guests. ✌️✌️

The whole series was amazing. I started watching Floor’s performances, but then stumbled on the full episode where they all sang for Floor. I ended up watching the whole series and found myself loving all of them. By far the best music show I’ve ever seen.
Floor is an extra-sensory/high-sensitive person herself, and she seems to be able to transmit that to listeners of her music. Hence the goose bumps, the wows and ultimately, the floorgasms. :-) There is such a video for each of Floor's 8 performances in BesteZangers posted by 'jenniezelf', including the pre- and after thoughts. "Mama" is next to be reacted to by you.

You left out Italian, Latin, and Finnish. Also possibly Swedish. You can find examples of all of them on RUclips. Finnish and Latin are on Christmas concerts, raskasta joulua.

It was really quite the fall of 2019. Every Saturday we waited for RUclips’s new Floor video. The last episode was dedicated to duets and we already knew halfway through Floor and Henk singing Phantom of The Opera. (Someone had found a preview of the ad on the show CD!) It was really hard for us to live those few weeks when we knew what was coming!
And when it finally became Phantom’s turn, I think we were all around the globe at the net waiting for it to come to RUclips. You can probably see the situation "through the eyes of your soul."

A true story. After reading in a few comments here about singing after Floor ...
When Nightwish was on a world tour in 2012-13 they also had concerts in China and Japan. Somewhere between those they had a few days off and they had decided to vacation in Thailand. And went to some bar where there happened to be karaoke !!! And if you bet that did Floor sing or not? Yes, she went to sing at that bar! What if your name was next on the list, who’s next singer? Would you have gone to erase your name? :D :D

Floor did four years at the Dutch Rock academy, while being the lead singer in After Forever. But she didn't feel that she really got what she came for when it came to the voice training. So she did another two years at the conservatory studying classical singing and musical theater.

To me, this show really showed her actual range, well... for those who know what she does in Nightwish that is.
In this season she surprised even her biggest fans with what she actually is able to do with that voice of her, a "we knew but... we didnt know it all" kind of thing i'd say.
And from this season, in all honesty .. you cannot go wrong with pretty most any performance from any of the singers, all different types of singers, different ranges.. ranging from very to to incredible.
So basically, you can make 25 more videos just from this season, and still have a few options to go.

Tim was the only one who knew who she was, the rest had to literally Google her to find out who she was and what she did. At the end of the series Henk all but adopted her, he looks at her like a proud father
You are absolutely right. I had the same feeling every saturday when she was singing. I knew about and listened to floor since 2002 or 2003 and told people about her, but they did not listen because it was almost all metal. I have only seen some of the show so far, but for me the best part has been how everyone seems to be genuinely happy to be making music and hearing each other make music. Everyone seems to push themselves because they want to make good music for each other.
It is such a nice change from the mocking of people that so many other shows have taken.

I was able to watch the entire season of this show (with subtitles) before they took it down. It waz absolutely wonderful. It's not a competition at all, but Floor clearly won! Henk Poort was a strong second! I suggest you do every song she did from this show; she's amazing.

New subscriber here. I have been a fan of Nightwish and Floor since 2013ish when I was still in high school. Unfortunately I never got a chance to see her live. This year just before Corona I finally managed to actually do so. It was magical. So many goosebumps!
Speaking of goosebumps, I really recommend checking out "Shoemaker" from the recent Nightwish album.
I love that moment when reactors realize that what they thought about metal bands and singers could be completely wrong. It's a popular reaction trope to capitalize on in RUclips, and Beste Zangers took that trend and made it into a show. It's such a unique way to show the artists' talent, to challenge themselves to be better singers, and to look deeper into genres they would have dismissed otherwise.
your reaction videos are my favorite.... I've seen these just as clips of her and the others singing .... but you give the context of why they choose the songs .... the added emotion makes this even more amazing...

From what I understand, the Dutch have very little time for metal music despite there being some great Dutch metal bands (Epica for one) and a small but solid metal fan base in the Netherlands. This reality was reflected in their faces as their expectations were so low. Only Tim Akkerman knew of her and he obviously still had no idea of her talent level.
I have to give a special shoutout to Henk Poort for how well he worked with Emma Heesters for their duet "Vivo per lei". Emma is a RUclips star and has the biggest YT channel in the Netherlands. Henk is a famous Dutch opera and musical theatre star. It would have been easy for him to be dismissive of her, but he clearly wasn't. Apparently Henk was a big James Brown fan when he was young so Emma sang "Sexmachine" for him and she nailed it. I know we're all here for Floor, but it is worth checking out some of the other performances.
It is a shame metal is not giving a proper shot by the radiomedia here in the Netherlands. The big radiostations barely play it. Only interested in the poppy music our youth is being brainwashed with today. Epica, Within Temptation, Sabaton, Nightwish, Ayreon - all metal bands in a subgenre of symfonic metal i think (as a non metalhead!) are very accessible as a music listener. But they are never played and therfor never get a chance. So many people miss out because of corporate radio that only want rating numbers.
I'm getting some opposing details on this topic, it seems there is support and fans, but it wasn't really pushed on the radio or other media outlets there.
@@CUTnPASTEreacts It's no different than here in Canada. We have a solid metal fan base, but virtually no air time for metal music. There maybe a few FM stations here and there that may have some metal shows, but they would be a small minority. All of the major radio stations just play simplistic pop music. The average music consumer in Canada has no idea what music is like beyond pop, hip hop and country.
Before the pandemic forced its cancellation, Nightwish was booked into a 3,100 seat hall in Toronto. Consider that Toronto is the fourth largest metropolitan area in North America and all they can fill is 3,100 seats, when they can pull 82,000 to a cow field in Germany.
It's more like she started out metal (at age 16) and branched out into classical, but her bands have always utilized classical styles in their music. Awesome reaction, I'm going to be tuning in to all of them.

Good reaction, i am a big fan of floor and beste zangers 2019 was awesome.....more gems are sound of silence by henk poort( for floor) strong by emma heesters( for floor) winner by floor( for tim) shallow by floor( for emma) and last but not least the duet phantom of the opera( floor and henk) you wont be dissapointed and enjoy it...also nice to use the same videos( translated into english by jenniezelf) for those.👍

Thanx! The beauty for the people who don’t know her and discovered her listening to Nightwish can relate to this start from the series beste zangers. I definitely suggest you do the numbers she sung in the show in order to get the full feeling of what happens in the Netherlands. After every show there was an hype over the song she sang. Shedding an tear with her singing will happen again...rest assured...:) one thing that you instantly noticed in her fist song you saw is her versatility. You will discover that to be the thing she stands alone at the top ... she can sing everything. And she combines that with adding tons of emotion. That makes her so special. Carry on my friend and enjoy the ride....

Hello from Michigan where I am still riding my motorcycle to work most every day (last week was a bit cold. 25F most mornings).
The stunned guy in the roundel target new her from the days she was in a band called After Forever and he was in a band (Di-rect) and they'd play festivals together. Henk sorta knew her after a bit of google work.
Floor is amazing, always. But let me tell you that each and every one of those other singers are incredibly talented in their own right.
yeah I learned that as I was watching more of the episodes. I was definitely too hard on them in this reaction, I realise that now ✌️✌️
@@CUTnPASTEreacts Also, I am German and can tell you that her German here is quite flawless. The first time I had trouble understanding what she sang, but that's only because it's opera, which I have a hard time understanding generally without looking at the lyrics first.

Dude, great reaction. And.. we've all been there. It's weird to say, but i was so damn proud to see those other singers reactions when she started singing, really smashing it out of the park and making them recognize her as a world class singer. Somehow, the metal scene is overlooked, people have too many preset notions of what metal is. Floor is an exceptional talent and deserves all the recognition and love that she gets. I'm just happy that the dutch people are waking up and starting to realize what a fantastic performer they've had in the country and never given much attention to.
I love your reactions very much and subscrbed. Thank you very much. One littlr sidenote, Floor is not a classical slinger Who branched out. She is into metal since She was 15 years old. In all her eagerness to be a better slinger She studied at the rock academie and did classical training and theatrical (dunno how to properly say it in English) AS you correctly stated She also was a vocal coach for a while..
