    One of my favourite films. There's so little dialogue, and yet each scene says SO much. The acting from both Josh & Alex is breathtaking. And the trick with skinning the dead lamb is as old as the hills.

    Just a well done love story...it isn't impossible for rough lads to actually be gay, and find love in a situation like they were in...what made me love this film is that it had a happy ending...

    I'm so so so happy that you reviewed God's Own Country! This is a beautiful love story & I wish that more people knew about it! I watched it on the day it was released in London & I loved every second of it! It was also so refreshing to go to watch a gay love story that didn't leave me bawling my eyes out as the credits roll at the end.❤♥. Thank you, Luke

    I'm so glad you've watched and reacted to this film - it's one of my favourite queer films of all time. Having watched so many queer dramas that ended badly, and being so used to negative tropes, I was expecting a horrible farm accident or a brutal queer bashing at some point - instead, we got the continued focus on Johnny learning to open up and trust someone, thanks to Gheorghe's tenderness (the latter shown beautifully in the way that Gheorghe teaches Johnny that sex can be sensual and gentle, not just rough and rapid, as well as through his concern for the orphaned lamb - including skinning the dead lamb so the ewe will think it's her own baby - which is the first time we ever see Johnny smile in the film).
    Then there's the quiet, subtle way it's filmed and directed, with every touch choreographed to convey so much emotion; filming sequentially so that we see the slow blossoming of spring to match the characters' own journey; and of course, that most beautiful thing, a happy ending. It's a contemporary queer masterpiece.

      When I first saw it, I held my breath until the end. Hell, some of me feared that the nighttime bus scene would reveal that it had only been a dream. We need more happy endings in these films.

      Been a long while since I’ve seen this, but if I remember correctly what Gheorghe was saying in the pub was more along the lines of “I want a commitment from you, something deeper” if he was going to stay. But again, tis been a while so I could be well off.
      Fantastic reaction btw. Such a beautiful film.

    A jewel. Actors are great... of course, I lost tears... deep suffering, tenderness, love, and a needed good end. Fucking hard life in the ferme!

    John has a chip in his shoulder because of the life he’s been dealt and his escape is alcohol. He won’t let anyone get close to him. When someone tries, he pushes them away. Gheorges has to break down his walls to help John help himself. The rock wall that he never fixed is symbolism of their relationship. Him having sex in the restroom is a way to say they are getting too close and he’s scared, and pushes him away again. To watch his growth into a good, loving human being is wonderful to see. But he never would have gotten there without falling in love with Ghorges. And I believe the old woman was his mother, not his grand mother. It’s so beautiful there, but watching this, I can feel the cold from here!
    On a personal note, you are so cute! I’m glad I came across your page.

    Some people said it was a rip off of broke back mountain but with a happy ending.

    • @huh5912
      @huh5912 4 месяца назад +2

      Its very different story wise, Brokeback mountain is more about denial, discovering your sexuality and internalized homophobia.
      While Gods own country is about discovering love and self-love. Both character already aware of their sexuality from the very beginning. The only denial Josh has is he deny the love and care given by Georghe.

    This is one of my favorite films! You should do "A Moment in the Reeds" next. Both of these films came out around the same time as CMBYN, and I think they were lost in the shuffle due to all the hype over that movie. I think "God's Own Country" and "A Moment in the Reeds" are better films. I really enjoy your reaction videos! 👏👏👏

    if you thought some of these scenes were cringy, you probably couldn't handle Paris 05:59 Theo & Hugo (2016), if you can get past the meeting the movie turns very sweet about two men falling in love on the streets of Paris in the early morning hours
