"That fuggin sucks" absolutely cracked me up
🤣🤣🤣
It makes me happy to see NH doing so well.
Ikr
Yeah, I saw it listed and saw it going one way after the first match I had with the new Nighthaunt book. When you can reliably lift 20 mortek guard, Ossiarchs just don't stand a chance.
Two of my favourite factions! 😍
I guess the Harvester is a must in an OBR army for the increased damage vs. Mortek Guard. And the Stalkers now can do quite some work. On the NH side stacking -1 to save on charges seems too powerful to me. Great battle report guys! You rock
This is the first video of this channel I’ve watched and HOLY SHIT is that intro fucking amazing
Clever play from Alex to use the hexwraith double move to use them as blockers wouldn´t have thought of that myself
Can’t take credit for that, read about it online somewhere haha 😂
Love your battle reports so much! The songs are amazing too 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Welcome back Alex, been too long the original crew back together!!!
Grate bat rep as usual! OBR against the odds but game would have been waaay different if you got priority. It only confirmed to me to leave catapult for a harvester. Really have my hopes that bonedaddies will get some love in 2023.
Priority strikes again
Love this style of br!!!!!
Alex and Jordan, it must be 2020 again. Great job guys
Well, if anyone was thinking games went on too long, I think games of Bounty Hunters vs Galletian Vets will be short.
That's a good point on the damage output essentially doubling from the coherency changes and then going up again from the BH Battalion --- the BHB.
It's not that the Nighthaunt did well, so much as I think Jordan made some strategic mistakes with the OBR.
1. He should have taken the first turn instead of deferring. The fight is over 4 quadrants, and his Mortek are expert conquerers, so he should have focused on getting to the middle of the battlefield first.
2. He should have played the Harvester instead of the Crawler. Harvester is essential for bringing back infantry, ESPECIALLY at times where you face a -3 rend. Harvester brings back slain models within a 3" range on a 4+ roll, so if you keep the Harvester near your Mortek, you have a 50% chance of bringing back a lot of Mortek.
3. Katakros and Mortis Praetorians are the way to go. I know it's not the "Meta", but I would rather have 40 Mortek and Katakros than 70 Mortek and no Katakros. Why? Supreme Lord of the Bonereaper Legions and the +1 to hit and +1 to save it gives. Plus, Katakros can bring back/heal 3 wounds on 3 units per turn in the hero phase. Combine his ability with Arkhan's same ability, and they can bring back 6 Mortek models per unit per round.
4. Mortis Praetorians have ability called Counterstrike, which lets you re-roll hits on a unit that just charged you. You use it at end of charge phase, so you can combine it with Shieldwall or Endless Duty.
5. Arkhan was held back. His ability to move 16" when he's undamaged, combined with the Protection of Nagash spell means that he can be a deadly hit and run, or you can focus him on an opponent and then use Unflinching Coordination to immediately attack with a nearby Mortek Unit.
6. Arkhan should have been casting Mystic Shield and Reinforce Battle Shields on the Mortek as often as possible. No offensive spells, just defense.
7. I'm including the endless spell Emerald Lifeswarm in my current list because it heals/resurrects D3 wounds for units within 3". Just another way to keep the Mortek alive.
The strategy here for OBR should have been simple. If you know you're going first, and the objective is the middle of the table, then run to the middle of the table, hold it with your Mortek and use the power of the Expert Conquerers for model count. With the Mortis Praetorians, and the seven lines of defense, he should have been almost unassailable.
In the spirit of sportsmanship, I offer this critique not to be mean, but because I think OBR doesn't deserve the bad rap it gets. It's actually quite powerful when used correctly. Contrasting thoughts from any other OBR players?
MP is nice but petreifex reduce rend by 1 is effecivly the exact same thing as the kat buff when against rend plus even though it woudnt matter against NH, blugeon > counterstrike when running a list that isnt centered around mortek when most people these days are starting to pick up stalkers. emerald lifeswarm plus kat and ark is overkill tbh because when mortek are grinding in combat they are either going to be in sitations where the are losing next to no models, or are dropping so fast that the healing is kinda pointless from my expereince.
@@adamanderson8542 Interesting. I kinda base my playstyle around NOT losing my Mortek units, even if it's overkill. And while Petrifex reduces the rend by 1, it doesn't help my hits. Almost everything in OBR hits on an unmodified 3+, so the +1 to hit makes a big difference. So it turns the Mortis Praetorians into hammers. They survive a lot, then they hit back hard. And if you combine a 2+ hit with the Counterstrike ability to re-roll hits after being charged, and maybe Endless Duty to increase attacks by 1, you get good results. It's a numbers game, but I've had a 20 model unit of Mortek have 60 attacks that hit on 2, with rerolls, wound on 4+, and deal between 25-30 wounds.
I'm sure there's things he could have done better or list building that would help him tailor to a specific match up but nothing he did wrong warranted him being tabled in two turns. SD Bladegheist are insanely strong right now (I play all the death armies), there's not much he could have done differently. Literally all he had to do was charge his hammers into our biggest anvil and wipe them, something that shouldn't happen easily as the army is pointed toward keeping them alive and on the board.
Also the harvester is nice but likely would have been focused first. The other component is people misplay the Harvester terribly wrong right now. He's effectively a 4+ after-ward for any mortek within 3" of them. You can't rerez models in the same wound allocation and you can't try to save a unit that's been wiped. With those limitations being acknowledged he's really not that great of a piece for something that gets sniped off.
Newest stats put OBR at the bottom with like 32% win rate? Yeah it's not pretty right now.
@@BuffShamansplz It’s true, the harvester can get sniped off. That’s why I usually include a unit of deathriders and try to tie up anything that could do sniping. Plus, anything that tries to kill it had better do it quickly, because I can heal 6 of the harvester’s wounds every turn.
@@BuffShamansplz Could you ellaborate on that "You can't rerez models in the same wound allocation"? The way i play my harvester is, my mortek guard around him takes hits. I roll my save, i roll my ward. I sum up the wounds and allocate them to the guards 3" around the harvester, and for every dead guard i roll for the harvester and on a success i bring a guard back to the table (assuming the guard is still within 6" after i had to take models of the table after allocating wounds). Is that wrong and when, why?
Could have used the cursed stele to break coherency on the hexwriaiths turn 1 instead of just shooting!
True - but I was planning to go in there and take them out with the Mortek anyways!a
Where is that gaming mat from??
Arkhan was casting both Drain vitality and Mortal Contract in the third turn. I believe the line "nagash and arkhan know all the spells from the spell list" was removed. Nagash gains that line on his battlescroll but Arkhan doesnt. so shouldnt he only be able to cast one of them?
Great game. Great stuff. Stalkers as battle line now!
biggest biceps in wh history said..90 bodies on the objective... :D
Good run down and details of the match. I really think Bounty Hunters should have been/should be changed to 1+D on 6s to wound or even double damage on 6s to wound. A straight +1D is just too powerful, like was mentioned, when you combine with Bladegheists (subfaction) battleline its just too much. And this is coming from a Nighthaunts player
Are the trees from Printable Scenery aswell?
Don’t you need to be wholly within the board quarter to contest them?
Models need to be wholly within a given quarter to be able to count towards contesting it, but the whole unit doesn't have to be.
"every wave of terror effect.." 🤣🤣🤣
In NH turn three not sure the big block of BGRs would have been able to retreat due to the Incarnate debuff.
They weren't wholly within his range - so were free and clear to retreat, sadly for me!
Where is this battlemat from if I may ask?
I would also like to know.
You can see how unfun this game was in his face.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm pretty new to AOS, but I thought in 3.0 the player who deploys first simply breaks a tie on a priority roll at the beginning of the game to decide who goes first in the first round. I thought the rule changed to nerf one drop armies.
in the core rules yes - but the GHB battlepack re-introduces the mechanic for matched play!
This matchup was kinda flipped before the GHB in that OBR had the benefit of ducking a good amount of their damage and making better trade, but still winnable for NH if they went for objectives. Bounty hunters and the addition of things like purple sun (as well as mortek being roarable now) is probably going to kill the traditional build (likely the army as a whole as well) and the traditional mortek heavy build was only ran because all the other builds/subfactions were subpar and had poor synergy with the rest of the book.
Definitely could use a new tome sooner than later, I've retired mine in lieu of other Death armies. NH & SBGL are great and FEC isn't doing half bad with new stuff.
Nighthaunt Besthaunt
NH looking strong. Chaff models with lots of attacks are the clear winners for bounty hunters. I think its abit of a mistake putting elite units with less volume in there if you can avoid it.
This seasons meta is shaping up to be a cracker!
Did I hear you were saving on 5s with the mortek? Shouldn't Petrifex have removed the one point of rend there? 4+ Rerolling is a ton better then 5+
so the units themselves have rend on them and NH Wave of Terror subtracts one from save rolls, which Petrifex cant avoid regardless of the rend on the NH weapon
@@mrigank3855 wasn't thinking of wave, you're right!
Dont think the catapult is playable personally :(
And with the GV changes id rather just play one 20 Mortek squad and the rest split up in Deathriders / Morghast / Stalkers
Bone Tithe Shrieker and QuickSilver swords are ace tho for OBR
Yep, I don't think the classic OBR approach works anymore. Mortek take it harder from the changes (no immunity to roar and extra damage from bounty hunters) than pretty much any other unit in the game. You can't count on Mortek being able to do anything except hide behind other stuff as expert conq until the bounty hunters are neutralized, so investing a lot of points in them doesn't make sense.
Love nighthaunt
Hexwraith are 160
That's way too few BGR lol.
Agreed! 20 more on the way.
The new battalions were a massive, massive mistake for otherwise perfect ruleset.
Count as 3x and +1 dmg is just absolutely insane bs and very unhealthy for the game, now we have to wait a whole year till they go away, god damn.
Did the Nighthaunt player forget to use scarlet doom ability - MW on the charge?
Just as a minor thing, you can't actually put any faction terrain down on this battleplan. All four table quarters are objectives and because of this, no faction terrain can be placed because you can't put any down within 3" of an objective (which is the entire table quarter). :P
I think that’s not true at all. The battleplan states that the quarters are treated as objectives for abilities, strategies and so on. If you look at the Warscroll of faction terrain there will be a part called Set-up and that part also contains the placement restrictions. If you look closely you’ll see that Set-up is not an ability but just a rule. Because it’s not an ability it does not have to treat the quarters as objectives and therefore you’re able to set-up faction terrain.
@@furipuri7988 Yes, the stuff on warscrolls for a factions terrain is an ability and is indeed not able to be used on this battleplan.
@@Turtlesism it’s not ^^ e.g. look at the Warscroll of the Mawpot in the Warhammer Age of Sigmar App. The Set-up is not listed under Abilites, but above it. What makes you think that the set-up rules are abilites? The Names of Descriptions (rules) on Warscrolls are written in capital letters. The Names of Abilities are written in a normal form. The „SET-UP“ part is written in capital letters so it’s a rule and not an ability. If the battleplan would affect all rules it would state „for rule purposes“ but it doesn’t. Have a look at the Bad Moon Loonshrine in the Gitz FAQ and you’ll see what I mean. I’m pretty certain that your wrong mate.
@@furipuri7988 Everything on a warscroll is a part of that models abilities. Again the quarters are entirely objectives and you cannot place nearly all faction terrain within 3" of objectives. This is really clear RAW.
@@Turtlesism You are wrong with your assumption that everything on Warscrolls are abilities dude. Look at Core Rules 22.0 there is a part „Description“ and a part „Abilties“. Descriptions are written in another way. You are making stuff up and act like you are handing out facts… again: The Names of Descriptions (rules) on Warscrolls are written in capital letters.
The -1 gaven by the charge is cumulative but it still count as -1 when you attack. You can have just -1 to your save, the rest is rend, it s cumulative because it can beat the all out defence if you cumulate a -2 but even if you have a -3 cause you changed with 3 units and choose that effect it s still a -1 when you roll the saves.
There is no cap to negative save modifiers. I dont have the nighthaunt does it say in there they dont stack?
@@michaelunderwood7498 it says the effects of wave of terror are cumulative.
@@NexUtInfinitus Pretty much this. Even if the designer notes means the different effects are cumulative (in that you can get shriek, stun and the other one), nothing says that same effects do not stack. They actually did an interview in white dwarf talking about mechanic and how it can stack rends. If that isn't enough, FAQs just dropped and they didn't change anything about it.
Ok, that s make me happyer that cause i play Nighthaunt and the effect like this it s betther then what i was thinking
@@andreabentivoglio764 stack -1 save modifiers and use a purple Sun too
Nighthaunt is too strong atm. Way too overloaded.
Nighthaunt were basically unplayable from the start of 3.0 until now, this is just NH players collecting karma they were due 👻
Definitely not too strong. Very dense ruleset but not broken IMO.
Scarlet Doom subfaction may be a bit over the top. The other subfaction are fine. I’ve played 7 games with the battletome so far. I’m liking it, it isn’t LRL OP, or SoB level OPness
You're probably looking at a match up of a really good army who has a 3.0 tome vs. an army whose entirely broken by two things: Not having a tome and GHB punishing Mortek. Blobs of GV against Bounty Hunter centered factions are going to lose badly. Any army with solid bounty hunters would have done the same thing to Jordan's list. Mortek are utter paper here.
