Hope you're OK dude. This has been one of the most entertaining campaigns I've seen in Total War and that's what it's all about I think. You've inspired me to get Rome again. I lost my original discs. You don't owe us anything but if you could let us know you're OK that would be good. I know real life can get in the way sometimes.
Lugotorix you're the best place on youtube to come for raw uncut old total war. You don't sugarcoat anything. This is the first series that I watched of yours as you uploaded it and I was on the edge of my seat every time. Can't wait for part 8!!
I've just discovered your channel and I love it! Unless other youtubers, you actually make your campaigns very exciting because you comment with passion and you don't always win (like others do...). Keep the great job!
armenia is so op late game with phalanx, cataphracts and cataphract archers! but they r very weak start game, they dont even have light cav! thanks 4 uploading these btw!
using your main general and sounding the horn just before they charge will cause the leader to stop for a few seconds. this is useful when dealing with phalanxes cause you can place the general at the back of the group. hope this helps.
It's always a pleasure watching you, especially when you struggle and come out on top! Please continue making these - don't just go away. :) P.S. Loved that Stealers Wheel reference. Stuck in the Middle is an awesome song!
@@lugotorix6173 I think I might have already told you that under another video, but, watching someone play and slightly struggle, is much more entertaining than watching someone steamroll the map with blitz campaigns etc. We all know that once cheese tactics are being used this game is easily beatable, but what's the point for the viewer I will never understand. Difficult campaigns are good campaigns. Greetings.
You're taking lots of hits, because you have your horse archers all bunched up together. I think your cavalry needs to practice social distancing. Melee cav can be effective when charging as a massive blob, but horse archers generally are not effective that way, unless they're firing into an enemy's back. You generally want horse archers to shoot into the target from multiple angles when the target can fire back. Don't get too close to them, because that encourages them to pull back, and they're harder to hit when they're moving. However, if you can get them in a corner, you can probably melee them, as they won't have anywhere else to run. You also can't click on the battlefield and expect the unit will go there. You have to right click and drag out the formation.
@@lugotorix6173 I honestly don't recommend loose unless your volume of fire is much less than the enemy's. It and cantabrian circle can be useful if you find yourself in a ranged duel with foot archers, but I personally find the results less than stellar. There's a thread on totalwar.org called "hunters all there lives" with good info on the proper care and feeding of horse archers. And yeah, increasing difficulty does make the AI's missile units more effective, but the AI's missile units are ALWAYS more effective than yours, no matter the difficulty.
37:55 - Yep as soon as they attacked I knew you were gonna be in for a very unpleasant surprise. Attacking army always attacks across the bridge. Reinforcing army comes from your rear. And you had set your river defense up so nicely, too.
only just discovered your channel but love the videos hope to see the conclusion to this campaign. been playing Rome total war for years but finally got a better pc to play the other TWs
A wonderful campaign. Based on my experience, if you don't beat everyone on the field winning every single battle, it's so very hard to continue the Armenia campaign. It is so very unforgiving.
make a faction guide for Macedon in Alexander Total War, as well faction guides for the Medieval Kingdoms campaigns (America,Brittania,Crusade,Teutonic)
The least annoying way to play an Armenia campaign would be probably to migrate your starting forces to the North, take the Parthian settlement at the edge of the map, start pumping out Cataphrapcts as soon as you can and start expanding from there. (maybe Greece would be an even better starting point, with the richer settlements, but the culture penalty might be a bigger problem than the poor income from the Northern steppe settlements) The starting position really hurts the faction early game, but the units are worth it.
also, could you do another challenge campaign? maybe name it "fight to the death" and do arcade mode, no battle time limit, and add the limitation of cannot withdrawl.
Your lets play's are really awsome and enjoying to watch. I'm really glad to have discover your chanel. I hope you will continue, if not the armenians at least a other nation, and maybe a faction guide with some advise for a the rebel faction in Barbarian Invasion.
Would love to see this campaign continue, i ve been struggeling myself with the Armenian's aswell getting destroyed by either ponthus or Egypt... Hope you find some time :D (and motivation for this struggle haha)
I'm a new subscriber to your awesome channel Lugotorix, nice to meet you! I admit this episode is the quintessence of the bad luck, hope you will do soon a new campaign on Barbarian invasion!
Honestly this is why I'm not playing on very hard difficulty. I want to feel like my game makes vaguely sense, not just all the AIs tryharding to kill me. I remember in my last Carthage campaign Spain, Gaul and the Romans all declared war on me without ever fighting themselves. Even the Julii didn't attack the Gauls, instead all of Rome focused on me. It was ridiculous.
In my experience, what you're describing happens on any difficulty. It happens faster the higher the difficulty is, but even on easy, all AIs that border you will declare war, even if it would be better for them to fight someone else. Unlike Shogun I/Medieval I, the AI in Rome I/Medieval II is programmed to always hate the player.
@@timothyernst8812 Hm, I remember playing on normal and Gaul actually fighting the Julii and getting attacked bu Spain. But it might be confirmation bias...
@@couchpotatoe91 That's quite possible if Gaul no longer shared a border with you after being attacked by Spain or there was just some weird RNG. @@timothyernst8812 Yeah, the bias towards attacking the player is just super obvious. Like when Gaul doesn't go towar neither with Spain nor with the Julii nor with the Britons for 20+ turns. Like wtf!
@@couchpotatoe91 Yep. It's what happened to Lugo with Scythia. Likewise if you play Parthia, the Armenians become ultra aggressive against you. I suspect that this why if you play as England in Medieval II that Portugal develops such a raging hardon for invading Ireland and Wales.
Againts missile cav factions (like Scythia) if you are going to fight missile cav vs missile cav use the Cantabrigian Circle, it helps you skirmish a lot better because the enemy troops will just stand there and will be easy to take down.
