what a lovely place to unblock drains, stunning architecture.
Bit of a slog getting hoses round the house, thats one good reason to rod a drain but as you will see ... I got the jetter out in the end.

04:53 Understand Tony it's your choice but... rods only works once in 5 and you often waste time and energy in finally getting out the jet like in this video. Of course we understand that taking the jet out of the truck need also energy but certainly more profitable. Thks for all Tony !
Yes ... I was brought through with rods as I never had a jetter when I was a plumbing, heating, gas and drainage ebgineer for 25 years. I always used rods so apart from habit ,I also like using the rods, as you could see it was a bloody pain getting the hoses round and sometimes I try to avoid getting into that, also certain property will need me to leave my van out of site and I am reluctant to leave my van open to thieves by using the jetter.
@@drain-unblocker Very understandable when the truck/eye distance is a long distance ! Very understanding too when there is a risk of theft !! Maybe for this problem a hole/door on the side of the truck would be a solution for risky sectors... Anyway, rod or jet we love all your videos Tony !

Hi Cheryle yes The camera has a transmitter called a sond and I have a locator. The customer is having the drains dug up in the area of the burried IC. (Some one will be connecting from a new plot ) happy christmas 🎄

If it isn't wet wipes causing the blockage, it'll probably be that super comfy soft tissue like Charmin, as it tends not to break up in water like 'cheaper' toilet roll, or it could be the perennial 'Sanitary/Incontinence' products!!
The other inspection chamber could be seen in the video @ 13.48 there is a circular depression in the gravel roughly the same size as the lid of the chamber you were working from.

I like the fact you use rods first , its better fir the environment, better than using fuel to run the motor , plus it wastes less water , plus its a great work out for you judging by what we can see , and you know you can use a jetyer if you need ,its great and interesting to watch .

An interesting video. Very poor foul drain, that one. Insufficient fall with junctions coming in at the wrong angle/against the flow and sections where the run has been badly installed or it's settled/dipped and is holding water. I reckon they'll have further trouble with it. I'd tell them to flush twice after a No2 every time - just like I do!

That red sandstone is very familiar, it was quarried and used in and around north west Cardiff and the vale of Glamorgan.
Wasn't that mock Elizabethan manor once owned by the very wealthy Lever family, of the Unilever empire.
You know my feelings on modern buildings, imagine building a modern dwelling next to lovely buildings like that, modern buildings very rarely fit into the surroundings.👍

Hi Tony, nice area that. Not a particularly happy drain line that. As you say, settlement going on there in a place or two. Didn't look as though there was much of fall on it either to be fair, as for connecting a junction the wrong way round 😮...burying/ covering an ic...another big no no as you know yourself. But further on where it's picking up the neighbouring line, wasn't too good there either...something for the utilities to sort out maybe? Anyway, enjoy the weekend, hope you manage to keep out of the rain.
Hi Howard, yes multiple issues and I did tell customer to call utilities over the shared connection. (Part of it needs replacing I think)
looks like the pipes were laid joined in the wrong flow direction full- stop, it flows uphill according to the joints ? did the customer want you to turn that wrong junction ?

I think I would of shown the customer that the connections coming into the main run were going in the wrong direction,not one but two,and a possibility that was causing the blockage, did you get him to flush to see if they were toilet connections coming in the wrong way ? 👍

What I don't understand fully about using the rods, is that surely all you are doing is pushing the blockage further along the pipe, rather than actually clearing it. That's why when you bring the rods back, all the water that was sat behind the plunger head comes back with it, and you nearly flood the decking. Or am I missing something obvious?
Good question, the rods should be used with a plunger downstream (that is pushing the blockage further down the line and breaking it up, it will enter a larger diameter pipe) now if rods are used upstream it would be a worm screw or retrieval tool. Hope that clarifies it.
That T.P. doesn't look like it's dissolving like it should. Don't you guys have TP that dissolves like the ones for septic tanks? Those don't look like wipes, but they SHOULD be pulling apart by now, right?

I have to agree with you that rodding is best due to the mess that pressure jetting makes [just part of how it works. Unless it is a long run between inspection/access points, or you can work from the dry / downside of the blockage rods are best. The two inlets you showed make me ask has someone changed the direction of flow at some time??
Good theory about changing direction of flow but my money is on poor installation mate. Thanks for you comments re rods etc.
It was just a theory, but I have seen it done before to work with an extension that had been built.

Wet wipes should be banned. Even if they claim they are flushable, that's just sales pitch, they know nothing about how it affects the smooth running of our drains.
