How nice to see Judge Newman again! I kind of missed him. We should each have our own Judge Newman in our lives. As for that haunting, at least for a somewhat normal person, killing another human being is almost always traumatizing, especially if we are talking about a very close and dear person, such as one's own child. It bothers and a person can easily have nightmares so it really haunts as Judge Newman said.

I have respect for this judge and it wasn’t until after the sentencing that I recalled his words to the Uber driver that kidnapped and murdered a young woman passenger. His words were sobering and full of quiet truth, wisdom, and full of sound judgment. I am not a lawyer but I hope he considers doing more lectures and presentations. The way he conducts himself and the court is a reminder that there are still people operating with integrity and high standards in the judiciary and in other fields related to law and Justice!

Murdaugh not having had prepared a speech, was in my opinion the most embarrassing moment of the entire trial. It makes his appeal appear only grotesque. Especially since his attorneys also didn't have anything to share in his favor.
It definitely adds to the defendant's sentence. That Judge Newman was righteous in his condemnation of this awful crime. A saluatary lesson to humanity worldwide. "Thou shalt not kill". Judge Newman is an amazing judge.
“Thou shalt not bear false witness” refers to testimony in court, and the only one who admitted to lying in court was SLED, who went in front of a grand jury and claimed “blood spatter” that didn’t exist.

They can’t say “this guy has 25 previous convictions for drugs and guns” and use that as evidence for a murder charge. The only exception is if it’s the exact same behavior; e.g. if Alex Murdaugh had previously shot someone intentionally.

His calm and wise demeanor is even more remarkable considering he lost his 40-year old son weeks before the trail started. Many condolences to him and his family and respect for how he conducted the courtroom under a lot of pressure.
When the Defence lawyers were running around acting like they owned the court house. Judge had a look on his face that told a tale. When he had the family portrait removed, I said, now we can begin to bring Justice for this mother and son. No one deserves to be slaughtered. Alex will be tried again one day, and it will be by the ultimate judge.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Watched internationally. Watched every day from Ireland and can honestly state the judge has my respect. Calm, moved it along. A few, but impactful (not melodramatic) words pre-sentencing. Respect from 🇮🇪

Eloquent and elegant Judge Clifton Newman…..a measured man who interprets and applies the letter of the law. I loved what he said to Nathaniel Rowland (fake Uber driver killer) at his sentencing: very moving💜
