If resetting it takes you back to the locked screen Switch it off, then press the power button to turn it back on, as it comes back on with the apple logo hold the power button and it will come up with the reset option then click reset, confirm then put in charge pad whilst it resets. Worked for me 👍

When I start the process, it seems to be like it’s doing it and after about 75 percent the screen goes black and the “erase all content” screen shows up again. this is very helpful but although it didn't end up being the video that fully helped me due to my left half of the screen not being functional i was using a 2nd gen apple watch and i couldn't press and hold the slide circle, if your looking for how to reset it without a fully functional touch then just try to fidget with the what side the scroll is on setting, that allowed me to touch the reset button in settings

Series 4. I finally got it to work but when I pair it to my phone it says it has an activation lock and needs whoever had it before Apple ID login info. I figured there should be a way to completely factory reset it.

HELP! Pressing the power icon without sliding it and then releasing the pressure does not show the reset option. Tried many times. Please help.
I had this problem. I did not have a passcode on the watch. Go into passcode and set one up and then the press and hold power button works as shown.

When you go to power off, don’t have it connected to the charger
Only do that after it says connect to the c power outlet or sorce
You have to press pretty hard but once everything zooms out or turns small than you can let go
