  • GLUTEN STEAKS
    2 Tbs marmite
    4 cups boiling water
    1 dsp garlic powder
    2 Tbs sweet basil
    3 1/2 cups gluten flour
    tamari/water mixture
    wholemeal flour for coating
    Dissolve marmite in boiling water.
    Add garlic powder and sweet basil.
    Whisk together.
    Slowly add the gluten flour, mixing as you go.
    Form into a dough.
    Break into hand-sized balls.
    Gently knead the balls individually.
    Put 4 litres of water in a pot and bring to the boil.
    Add the gluten steaks.
    Cover the pot and slow simmer for one hour.
    Drain off the water.
    Cool the gluten steaks.
    Cut the steaks in half lengthwise.
    Soak each steak in a mixture of tamari and water (suggest 80% tamari : 20% water) for some 30 seconds.
    Lightly coat in wholemeal flour.
    Fry on both sides until brown.
