You gotta get in touch with Strike to set up a lightning wallet. Think of lightning network wallets as a debit card and on-chain like an armored truck delivery. Strike is interoperable with the dollar, so merchants don't have to worry about volatility or how many zeroes come after the period or on-chain transaction fees.
I thought it'll be simple, I'm from Guatemala planing ahead to travel to surf city to experience the BITcoin era. Thanks for the video I'm subscribed just now!
I am very excited about the prospect of using cryptocurrency, not just as a money equivalent, but using it as a way to earn something as a result of doing some type of work.
Yeah bitcoin has been rising for a while now and it might keep rising or decide to fall again. The truth is no one knows, I believe it's the make purchase.
Yes due to the fall in bitcoin price now, In few months time People will be kicking themselves in few weeks if they miss the opportunity to buy and invest in bitcoin
Thank you .You are great blogger. I really appreciate you info, about every thing in El Salvador. Always with a big smile. I am from Santa Tecla, but I live in the states. Looking forward to go to vacation there. Thank you again.
Yeah, until volatility goes down and LN is more prevalent, most people don't have a reason to use it for spending. It's important to have payments as an option though, just so that it can mature in the meantime.
@@samuraifis : Agreed, but it’s no different in North America if I use a private machine in a bar here. At least 4 to $5 in fees. If you buy on an exchange and transfer to a mobile wallet, the fees are nominal, but it will be interesting to see how this all works out.

You don't actually pay with Bitcoin for small purchases, it's too expensive. Think of Bitcoin like "digital gold" and you need to convert some of it to "digital cash" for day to day spending and that is the Lightning Network which is virtually free.
@@jrodriguez9602 Bitcoins on the lightning network _ARE_ bitcoin. They are just like 'turbo' bitcoin, and in the future people will only use bitcoins on the lightning network, never going back to the bottom layer unless they really really have to. (Because that's when you pay the on-chain transaction fee.)
Howdy Texas! When was the last time you got to visit El Salvador? I am excited to learn more about Bitcoin and what it may do for El Salvador for sure.
Excellent! Thanks so much for doing these videos, for sharing your experiences. You have a beautiful family and I wish you the best! Greetings from a Salvadorian in Canada!
There are other ATMs that charge less comisions like 1 dólar, that one in El Tunco is like an independent ATM, it doesn't below to any cryptocoins company, hopefully when the government brings more they will set up a cheaper charges
That’s reason will be new law Bitcoin. They got that commission because it is not regulated, from 3rd September 2021 it is gonna be start new law Bitcoin.
Bitcoin will gain purchasing power over the years. The dollar will loose purchasing power over the years. Save your dollars in bitcoin LONG TERM. Use it as a savings account. Few understand this.
Thank you for your information, I did not know about this (Bitcoin) since 2 weeks ago. I'm from EL Salvador and I need to know more about this, even I'm not living there, but sometimes I have to go to my country.
If you send remittances to family there than you really need to download the Strike app and see how fast and free it is to send dollars through that app instead. It's now the #1 most downloaded app in all of El Salvador!
We talk about it constantly to each other, and some of our friends that have already been tell us that the hotels around El Zonte are full of other bitcoiners constantly too. Some are talking about buying property nearby as well.
No need to use ATMs. If you have an internet connection, you can purchase Bitcoin on an exchange or an App like Cash App. Then transfer to a wallet like Strike or just use the Cash App wallet.
Thank you yes electronic transfers seem to be the most economical when possible. Cash App is still not available in El Salvador at this time but you can do a direct Bank transfer through to strike or use another Lightning wallet to transfer to Strike. We are playing around with Strike right now and can't wait for part 2.
I am not an investor and don't want to make any suggestions as some people I see about investing in crypto BUT, it is easy to see how much money you can lose if you don't know what you're doing. Kudos to this couple who did this exercise for us. I would not but bitcoins unless they give clear rules how this process works!
Thank you Oscar 😊 it is all very new the law still won't go onto effect for almost 90 days so I expect things to get much clearer and easier soon. We were excited to document the process from the start and can't wait to try again for part 2 soon.
@@ThatExpatMom hey there, thanks for the video, and yes I know the real deal will be when it becomes law. In the meantime, and I'm sure you guys are doing this already, get yourselves familiar with the rates when withdrawing from those ATMs, to me 6 bucks for a 20 dollar deposit is well... You know...just make sure you get that info and yea share. On another note, I was there at Tunco a couple of months ago, visiting my native land after 5+ years. It was Nice. All the best!
Totally! 😁 💙 More atms are coming but it seems like wire transfers are the way to go... Moneygram may be a thing of the past very soon. Right now it's all about starting as educated on the process as possible 😁 I'm so happy you got to come back and visit hopefully you can come again soon 💙
Buy low sell high.... 13.83 cents so in order to make a profit a higher amount will need to be invested.. I see but low ... sell high.. perfect thank you. .. Excellent video
Good job my dear friend... Bitcoin is optional in partnership with the dollar. Another thing if bitcoin is good or bad is El Salvador business, no body else we are the only one who will know the true .
Correct You can now use bitcoin almost anywhere he in ES (my local tiendita takes it now) as well as the USD just like before. I will be trying it out again very soon in part 2.
So cool to see!! I think ATMs are practical with people that want to convert large sums of money ($200+) into bitcoin inside a wallet that has Lightning technology available. So, ATM->$250->0.005 bitcoin ($240) inside a bitcoin-lightning wallet seems a good strategy to use when in El Salvador in this early days! Ps: your kids are so adorable God bless them 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you so much Howard! :) Yes I agree I think ATMS are practical for people who may not have a bank account or are transferring large sums, but it seems electronic transfers are much more economical. We will be trying that in part 2 for sure.
I'm torn about this video. On the one hand, this video excels at showing what it would be like if someone who knew nothing about digital assets was forced into using El Salvador's current crypto ecosystem. On the other hand, I wish I could see how someone who actually knew what they were doing makes choices. There's a popular video on Reddit of a dude in El Salvador buying something with Bitcoin in like 4 seconds using the lightning network. This chick is clueless. But that's also the appeal. Because most will probably be clueless at first. For sure gave a like.
I was clueless going in... most of us are at first 😊 there is a learning curve for sure but one worth investing time in. Much will change here over the next couple of months and we are excited for the Chivo app. We have also been experimenting with the Strike app and electronic transfers as well as finding local vendors who already accept Bitcoin (all will in September) thank you for the like I think you'll like part 2 coming soon.
Yes is very expensive to buy Bitcoin from atms or even exchanges. But is like pennies from one person wallet to another person. If you send like 10 k in Bitcoin to another person would cost like 3 to 5 dollars and that is the transaction fee for the bitcoin network. I loved your video. thanks.
We are all learning together :) I expect things to become much more streamlined soon I can't wait for part 2. (also sorry about the previous bot comment there have been many on this post)
El zonte was much sketchier than the first beach. Dang I really hope all this works, the ATM was pretty bad in terms of fees honestly. I feel like this was a bad experience. I have a decent amount of money in Bitcoin and this was very discouraging.
I wouldn't be discouraged. This is all soooo new in fact the law doesn't go into place for almost 90 more days. These ATMs have been here since before the bitcoin announcement and we were eager to try them out and see what is available now and document the progress in El Salvador as it happens. Next time we will skip the ATMs and do an electronic transfer I predict more and more if not all places will be accepting bitcoin payment soon as well. This is new but we will all get there together.
Appreciate this video with you n your family learning abt BTC locally! Ty for going through the experience and filming to include viewers. Love it! This was a great example of what to expect. There ARE so many wallets and apps but NOT MANY to explain them. Like others, I'm also concerned abt privacy n security of downloading apps that may be linked to my bank account. Some apps let you delete that info while the app is not in use. Much to learn! Gonna ck that Lightning thing some comments here talk about. Again mahalo nui loa from these Hawaiian Islands, H. I., a country in continuity learning how to bring BTC and financial freedom to the Kanaka Maoli in Ko Hawaii Pae Aina (our country name in our language 😀).🌺💫🌴
Wow…that’s a very expensive ATM. That process is not viable if it’s to encourage more use. Thanks for sharing the experiences and hope this is used to help enhance the user experience.
It was pricier than I expected for sure but this is all very new and we just wanted to see what was available now and document the process as it grows and evolves. Next time we will try a direct bank or paypall transfer and skip the ATMs. Thank you so much for coming on the adventure with us as we all figure this out together.

Thank you! Yes we set up our strike account already 😁 going to try electronic transfers next

I am very excited about the prospect of using cryptocurrency, not just as a money equivalent, but using it as a way to earn something as a result of doing some type of work.
EVERY informed person needs to know about Bitcoin because it might be one of the world’s most important developments.
Yeah bitcoin has been rising for a while now and
it might keep rising or decide to fall again.
The truth is no one knows, I believe it's the make purchase.
Bitcoin trading right now should be at every wise individuals list. In few minutes you'll be ecstatic with the decision you made today
Yes due to the fall in bitcoin price now, In few months time People will be kicking themselves in few weeks if they miss the opportunity to buy and invest in bitcoin
I Had interest in investing crypto but I am discouraged by dip and some friend and family, I was being ignorant though
Thank you .You are great blogger. I really appreciate you info, about every thing in El Salvador. Always with a big smile. I am from Santa Tecla, but I live in the states. Looking forward to go to vacation there. Thank you again.
Bitcoin is better used as a savings acct vs spending. Imho
Yeah, until volatility goes down and LN is more prevalent, most people don't have a reason to use it for spending.
It's important to have payments as an option though, just so that it can mature in the meantime.
That’s why Bitcoin Cash will be the one taking over.
@@samuraifis : Bitcoin Cash will not be going anywhere really. The real BTC rules.

I really wanted to see how you actually pay using bitcoin, when you purchase a drink or food, etc.
It’s easy to transact with bitcoin. The payment is fast and efficient

No need to use ATMs. If you have an internet connection, you can purchase Bitcoin on an exchange or an App like Cash App. Then transfer to a wallet like Strike or just use the Cash App wallet.
Thank you yes electronic transfers seem to be the most economical when possible.

So awesome!!!!! Fantastic, boots 🥾 on the ground #BTC information ℹ️ TFS! From a new Sub!

I loved your video. thanks.
