I’m a black former female college basketball player, I haven’t watched the WNBA since the first season not until Caitlin Clark. She is a very exciting player and I am now a Fever fan. I agree, this has nothing to do with race. I don’t understand why people choose to ignore how good this woman is at playing the game. She reminds me so much of Curry. Could it be that she is getting a bit worn out and the speed of the pro game is much higher, CC22 has even spoken to this, but yet she makes no excuses for her performance. She says I have to improve and work harder, she is a humble human being and knows she has work to do to get better. I am positive she will improve before the end of the season so just back down on her performance, she knew it was going to be different and tougher and stated so on draft night and has whenever dealing with the media.
CC22 gives new meaning to the words role model, she is teaching kids that hard work and sweat will not hurt anyone, if anything it will make you better in the and thusly make you a better human being overall.

What rubs me raw (and I am not even a fan of womens basketball) is how these idiots talk as if CC didn't have a legendary college career. They talk like she isn't a household name as a female basketball player. There are many college legends who didn't win a National championship. I can understand bringing up the 10 turnovers in her first game, but I can't understand the people bashing her for those 10 turnovers and saying that her 20 points were meaningless, and talking like she somehow failed. She was playing against one of the best defenses in the league, and she is playing in a brand new system, with a brand new group of women. I have seen many rookie big name stars have 10 or more turnovers before. I have seen that from all-time greats who were a decade into their careers. It's like people just desperately want to see CC fail. What did she do to instigate this kind of hate? I get not liking a player, especially if that player is unlikeable in their behavior, but CC has done nothing but be normal, and respectful. It makes no sense. Oh, wait, it does make sense. It's jealousy, and the media's glorification of her legendary college career that upsets people. I think it's more an element of ignorance to make a statement like that. Some people never get it.
I'm a black man and i hate it when some of us bring race into conversations, especially when they feel that they've been overlooked for certain opportunities. I'm not to sorry to say this but, A'ja Wilson wasn't who people wanted to see play, no matter how good she is. A'ja Wilson didn't have the same star attraction in college and she sure as hell wasn't bringing new viewers to the college game and that has nothing to do with the color of her skin. It's all about her game, it wasn't anything appealing about it. Clark is playing in a women's league like she's Steph Curry. No woman has done that in the WNBA nor the college game and it's amazing to watch. I hope Clark doesn't let comments from the past and present veterans get her down. Clark has shown nothing but respect to the game and it's players and maturity when confronted with questions like this one.
Ultimately, at the end of the game, the scoreboard doesn't care what color skin the person had that put up the points. Every real sport that scores are based on a measurable result (baskets, goals, touchdowns, how fast) doesn't care about race. You are either good enough and are on the rooster or you are watching from the stands or at home. Race doesn't mean anything.

First game looks like the WNBA is rigged the way refs called that game. Carrington fouled CC 5 times that if I was the ref would have gotten called. I am a retired Bball official and coach. Take away the 10 turnovers by CC, they still lose because if you get 50% of those non turnovers into that offense you are still only coming up with about 10-15 points, which is still not enough to beat Connecticut because the rest of the Fever, which are not rookies sucked even worse. I mean the next best player had 7 points less than CC. Boston had 4 damn points. Pathetic and the other Fever players are more out of shape than CC. Its because the coach is forcing them into an offense where she says go for the long 2s. That comment Coach Sides made and the way she put CC under the bus publicly should get her fired.

CC was in a no-win situation, being the #1 selection by the Indiana Fever...the Fever were the LAST PLACE TEAM the past 2 years. This team CC is playing with is playing like a last place team; the other 4 players on the team still needs to improve their game in order to help CC play better against the other teams on the WNBA. The Fever defense need to put more stops against the other team's offense and turn those stops into more points on offense.
