Had my Mac all fixed up due to getting stuck with an MDM locked one but accidentally upgraded to Sonoma and it triggered it again. So happy i found this video, I am going to downgrade to Big Sur and then upgrade using this method. Hope it works !

I figured out that I had to click on Crtl+X to "save" and exit. Also, instead of using the cd commands that were mentioned, use "sudo nano /etc/hosts" because otherwise, I didn't get the rest of the script on my screen like Matt did. I got a blank.

Thank you! This worked perfectly installing Monterey on a 2016 MacBook Pro. From what I gather, I won't be able to install software updates online going forward?
This will not work with T1 Macbooks meaning 2016 and 2017 Macbook Pros both 13 and 15 inch. Reason being that you will be prompted to connect to the internet to install a critical update. I did this method in this video on a 2015 Macbook Air after finding it mentioned on Stack Exchange. I just left WiFi disconnected. 2018 and on are T2 up until M1 silicon Macs in 2020 and you will definitely not be able to get around MDM in any way at all. Hence your video title is wrong. It works for pre T1 macs, so up to and including 2015 Pros and up to and including 2017 Airs.
@@SantanaDiego yes it will not work with T1 Macs and definitely not with T2. T1 will always ask for an internet connection to instal that annoying critical update
@@MattsTech no way this will work on a T1 or T2 Mac sorry. Good video and thanks, it good for up to and including 2015 Pros and 2017 Airs. Anything else will always require an internet connection
Like I said, it worked perfectly fine on one of my friend's T2 Macs. He had a 2019 MacBook Pro, and not only did they bypass the lock, it did not require an internet connection in the installer. Now obviously every computer is different, so it may not work for you, and if such is true, then I'm sorry it didn't work, but speaking from experience, I have seen this work with a T2 MacBook Pro. I wrote the title as "Pre-T2" because I wasn't sure if a T2 Mac would work, and it seems to work unreliably. However, I've seen multiple guides that state that this will work with both T1 and T2, and I've seen one T2 Mac work with this bypass, so...unsure what to tell ya, you might need to adapt my instructions to work with your machine. If I get a T2 Mac that's MDM locked, I will release a follow-up video. :)
Great video! Question: I checked my device for enrollment and it said NO to both. However, every 30 minutes I get a prompt from system preferences asking me if I'd like to enrol my Mac to said company, and I keep saying "SKIP" and it goes away for 30 minutes. Comes back again with said prompt. Any advice?

I have the same challenge than you on the video. However it is Macbook Pro 2021 with M1 chip. I do have a bootable USB stick with Monterey. After erasing the HDD (without internet), when I select "Install Monterey" is directly asks me for an internet connection before anything is installed. There no option to not choose internet. It says I need to connect via Wifi or Ethernet. So I am stuck...Any idea what is the cause for that (M1 Macbook, Monterey...)?
Thanks for the video, it is super easy to follow. A couple of questions here; Why cd System/Library then go to etc? I still got the notification after restarting what should I do?
Great video, Thank you so much i have a question if you can give me an answer please when i run the command ( sudo nano hosts ) nothing appeared just this "( UW PICO 5.09 File: hosts ) and a blank page and some shortcuts at the bottom" and when i run the command ( profiles status -type enrollment ) this appeared ( Enrolled via DEP: No MDM enrollment: No ) Does this mean that my Macbook is MDM/DEP free? and can i reset it freely?
After installing BOTH Ventura and Sonoma using the steps provided, both installs, when done, I have no wifi. I'm installing using the Opencore Legacy Patcher because the macbook is no longer supported. So how do I get the wifi to work?
Hello Matt, tried on a macbook air 2017 with sonoma and went all trough until the HOSTS edit was different (didnt show all characters you had on the video) rebooted and started asking for the MDM. Will this not work on sonoma on unsupported mac this bypass? Thanks!!
It should work, that’s weird… I would check what you did again, and if you did everything correctly, you might need to reinstall the OS, unfortunately. :/
After I choose my computer does not connect to the internet, my prompt says "a critical software update is required for your mac. Connect to a network to install this update. Your mac can't be used until this update is installed" Options are shut down or continue, which does nothing, takes me back to "How do you connect?" screen
Fantastic. Saved my old mac mini thank you. Learned a lot about making a boot disk as well. The 'profiles status type enrollment' returned 'there are no configuration profiles installed on this system'.
Well, I goofed and missed the "Pre-T2" portion of your post. I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, 2018, A1932) and can't get past the portion of the device looking for the Internet. Any suggestions on how to 'image' this and get around MDM?
It should work just fine! :D Opencore might be able to give you a step up too, by spoofing the serial number to another one that doesn’t have an MDM lock. :)
Hey Matt, were you able to test this on a post-T2 Macbook? I have a macbook pro with m2 chip, which is mdm locked. I'm just scared if it gets permanently locked even if I try this method LoL. Thank you so much in advance.
It's already locked, so there's no reason not to try it. :) Just make sure your Mac is not connected to the internet when the setup starts, past activation. Once you get to the macOS utilities screen, disconnect your machine from the internet.

Hi can you please help me out with my macbook air 2017 ? I did the factory reset and now it asks for password for remote management Can you please help me?
Great video. Quick question…I followed your instructions exactly, restarted and reopened Terminal and typed profiles status type enrollment but instead of getting what you said I should see, it says, “there are no configuration profiles installed on this system”. Can I assume that means the machine is free of MDM?
That probably means it’s clean, though I can’t say for sure. The worst thing that’ll happen if your device gets locked will be that you get a notification to enroll it every now and again, which is easily dismissible. You can then follow the steps to block the MDM servers again (without reinstalling macOS) if such happens. :)
@@MattsTech Thank you! I've been trying to get this done for a while and your video was the first that fully worked thanks so much for making it so easy to follow along to
Sometimes it can take a day or so for the notifications to show up, but even then, it’s easily fixable without needing to reinstall macOS. Glad I was able to help you both! :D
When install with ventura os there is no option without internet. Its only 2 option wifi network and ethernet. Do you know how to continue without internet then
The MDM configuration has already been applied to your system, so you’ll need to reinstall macOS from a USB device to install without an internet connection.
@@MattsTech So my hosts file was located @ /etc/hosts so I did as you said. It has lasted through am upgrade to 11.7.7 and a time machine move as well and it has so far held up! Question, If I get a replacement logic board, do I just delete all that and save?
Yes, it works on all kinds of MDM locked devices. I don’t know your situation, but it’s best to contact your employer to make sure they can’t remove the lock first.
You might not have grabbed the right installer, some smaller ones require an internet connection. Make sure you grabbed the full installer, they should be on Apple's website.
This doesn’t remove the lock from Apple’s servers, so every time you need to reinstall the OS, you have to do this process. However, when updating macOS, the hosts file isn’t touched, so you can update it as much as you want. :)
Pre-T2 Macs are from 2017 and earlier (including the 2019 iMac). No Mac that is currently supported right now with macOS Sonoma, excluding the 2019 iMac, is a Pre-T2 model.

Any advice?
My bypass recovery would never be successful without their support and hard work. i feel blessed to work with such an incredible and talented person like *_Strategic techies_* I knew they could do this…
I have the same challenge than you on the video. So I am stuck...Any idea what is the cause for that (M1 Macbook, Monterey...)?
monterey needs internet connection, try big sur
Thanks for the video, it is super easy to follow. A couple of questions here;
Why cd System/Library then go to etc?
I still got the notification after restarting what should I do?
You can try repeating the steps again, no harm in trying. Otherwise, you might need to reinstall macOS and try again.
tried on macbookpro 2021 M1 and an activation step is required, without internet mac can't be activated.
Mhm, that’s why I titled the video “Pre-T2 Macs.”
@@MattsTech what does pre-T2 means?
@@MrIsrael3000apple’s T2 security chip. Google it. I had to as well.
Worked like a charm! Thanks man!
Not a problem! Glad it helped ya!
A pin is asked for mine right now. How to bypass?
Great video, Thank you so much
i have a question if you can give me an answer please
when i run the command ( sudo nano hosts ) nothing appeared just this "( UW PICO 5.09 File: hosts ) and a blank page and some shortcuts at the bottom"
and when i run the command ( profiles status -type enrollment ) this appeared ( Enrolled via DEP: No
MDM enrollment: No )
Does this mean that my Macbook is MDM/DEP free? and can i reset it freely?
Can you say how we open terminal, how we input and save the things you say to do. I feel like steps are skipped and I don’t see what you’re saying lol
Wont work on Macs which shipped with Monterey and later but that's basically the M1 Macs and later any way.
Do we have to run this after every update or re-install?
After installing BOTH Ventura and Sonoma using the steps provided, both installs, when done, I have no wifi. I'm installing using the Opencore Legacy Patcher because the macbook is no longer supported. So how do I get the wifi to work?
Hello Matt, tried on a macbook air 2017 with sonoma and went all trough until the HOSTS edit was different (didnt show all characters you had on the video) rebooted and started asking for the MDM. Will this not work on sonoma on unsupported mac this bypass? Thanks!!
It should work, that’s weird…
I would check what you did again, and if you did everything correctly, you might need to reinstall the OS, unfortunately. :/
Thanks man I think it worked. This was very helpful.
After I choose my computer does not connect to the internet, my prompt says "a critical software update is required for your mac. Connect to a network to install this update. Your mac can't be used until this update is installed" Options are shut down or continue, which does nothing, takes me back to "How do you connect?" screen
Try installing the update and then start the process again. :)
THANKS A LOT hermano! Saludos desde Colombia, your content was very helpfull , Macbook Air 2017, Im making an upgrade so we will see what happens
Fantastic. Saved my old mac mini thank you. Learned a lot about making a boot disk as well. The 'profiles status type enrollment' returned 'there are no configuration profiles installed on this system'.
@MattsTech, have you tried this process with OpenCore-Patcher, to install the latest macOS instead of the last supported macOS for the device?
Indeed I have, though since I was setting it up for a family member, she wanted the latest supported version installed for guaranteed stability.
@@MattsTech great thanks. Glad to know I can go down this path. I’ll be trying your process this evening and will report my success.
Well, I goofed and missed the "Pre-T2" portion of your post. I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, 2018, A1932) and can't get past the portion of the device looking for the Internet. Any suggestions on how to 'image' this and get around MDM?
I did the Ventura thing, just came here to let you know
7:59 wondering if this will work on router for an M1 Mac whicu us promoting Apple ID login even before the recovery screen.
Activation Lock cannot be bypassed using this method.
Very Interesting and helpful. Can you make a video on the iPod touch 2nd or 3rd gen if possible?
Hello, any reason this would not work with an OpenCore patched OS on a pre-M1 Mac? Thanks
It should work just fine! :D
Opencore might be able to give you a step up too, by spoofing the serial number to another one that doesn’t have an MDM lock. :)
2015 MacBook Pro with Sequoia . The command prompts are not working for me.
I made an error, check the pinned comment. :)
God bless your soul for this!!
Thank you! I’m glad I could help ya! :D
Could you link the video where you showed how to do the bootable usb previously?
When I attempt to type in cd ../../ect it's telling me there is no such file or directory, what am I missing?
you need to be as a root user sudo su and password
etc, not ect
Hey Matt, were you able to test this on a post-T2 Macbook?
I have a macbook pro with m2 chip, which is mdm locked.
I'm just scared if it gets permanently locked even if I try this method LoL.
Thank you so much in advance.
It's already locked, so there's no reason not to try it. :)
Just make sure your Mac is not connected to the internet when the setup starts, past activation. Once you get to the macOS utilities screen, disconnect your machine from the internet.
@@MattsTech Thank you for your support and fast answer.
xD
No problem!
Will this procedure work on a Mac Pro 2012?
This works on M1 Macs also tried and tested 👍🏻
Work on macbook air m1 lock icloud ?
@@agussupriyanto8978no. You have to desolder the T2 chip for that.
Are there any issues to install the macos again in a company laptop after bypassing mdm?
Fire 🔥 it worked
Thanks! This should help with my MDM Locked 2012 15 inch
Glad to be able to help!
why "cd System
cd Library"
and then
"cd ../../etc"
before
"sudo nano hosts"
it would go faster, if you only type "sudo nano /etc/hosts"
Hey Matt, will this solution work on a MPro 15inch 2017 ? Thank you !
Bro i did as u suggested and it says dep enorollemnt no so it means a green signal to me? Can I now connect my wifi?
Yep, you're good to go!
What about macs that 2019? Instead of older macs ?
that gnu thing was new to me. I only do vi.
can you still update as normal or with OCLP and still have no MDM communication? I've been working fine so far but I'm wanting to move to Sequoia

I had an ex agree to give me the MacBook I bought her back ONLY if she could “share werkends” with my frenchie that I had BEFORE dating her. I mean my pup loves her so I thought why not. I get my MacBook and maybe we can be Civil and my pup peaches would be happy. Well I didn’t get my dog back and the MacBook was remotely iTunes locked. Idk what to do. I’m considering checkm8 but idk it’s a 2019 m1 MacBook Pro. Am I screwed? And btw. She knew she was leaving before I knew so all my dogs paperwork , receipts, service records. Even my birth certificate and ss card is gone. But let’s just say this chick wouldn’t think twice about falsely accusing any ex of 9:44 hers of ANYTHING even tho she was the hoochie behind the back. Falsely accused an ex of the R word and laughed and admitted one night while out drinking. I laughed but it scared tf outta me. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Is this method working on m1 chips ?
I don’t think so, unfortunately.
Hi can you please help me out with my macbook air 2017 ?
I did the factory reset and now it asks for password for remote management
Can you please help me?
Follow the tutorial in the video, this applies to you. :)
Thanks for replying, I did but it did not work 😓
How far do you get? I assume the step you're on means that you've gotten past installing macOS?
@@MattsTech yes I have installed it and now while trying to set it up it shows the Remote Management and asks for a password

And you're setting up the Mac without internet the entire time, I assume?
it fails to erase the physical disk any troupleshoots?
this is almost my last step someone help plz i already formatted usb and have a macOS on there
im stuck and it wont let me erase the disk in the vid someone plz help
You might have to use terminal to erase the disk, and while I don’t remember the commands to do that off-hand, google and ye shall find!
@@MattsTech i cant access the terminal either unfortunately 😅😅😅😅
If you can’t access the terminal, then your install media is broken, as all media has the terminal built-in. Try redownloading a new copy of macOS.
Hey! Could you add the terminal commands to the video discription if possible?
Done! :)
Hi. Can you help with an MDM lock on an M1 Air please?
worked on a 2015 MBair with Monterey - thx!
After I copy and paste the prompt, what do I press
Great video. Quick question…I followed your instructions exactly, restarted and reopened Terminal and typed profiles status type enrollment but instead of getting what you said I should see, it says, “there are no configuration profiles installed on this system”. Can I assume that means the machine is free of MDM?
I got the same message too, I'm hoping that means its no longer enrolled. Did you find anything out about it?
That probably means it’s clean, though I can’t say for sure. The worst thing that’ll happen if your device gets locked will be that you get a notification to enroll it every now and again, which is easily dismissible. You can then follow the steps to block the MDM servers again (without reinstalling macOS) if such happens. :)
@@MattsTech Thank you! I've been trying to get this done for a while and your video was the first that fully worked thanks so much for making it so easy to follow along to
@@whodatiscody Nope. Been using the laptop and connecting to the internet without any issues or MDM notifications so I’m just hoping it’s all good.
Sometimes it can take a day or so for the notifications to show up, but even then, it’s easily fixable without needing to reinstall macOS.
Glad I was able to help you both! :D
Does this work for activation lock
Sorry, no, it does not.
When install with ventura os there is no option without internet. Its only 2 option wifi network and ethernet. Do you know how to continue without internet then
Your Mac has an MDM profile installed. Reset your Mac using a USB drive with a macOS installer on it and then follow the steps in the video.
I LOVE YOU
3:38 it requires a password and I don’t know it
Where can i find u ? King tech
So what will happen if we just wipe the OS and reinstall it? Is this works like iCloud Activation Lock?
Yes, MDM locks reach out to Apple servers. Reinstalling macOS will not remove it.
unfortunately they have removed the 3 option which allow to setup without internet
The MDM configuration has already been applied to your system, so you’ll need to reinstall macOS from a USB device to install without an internet connection.
@@MattsTech What if the usb install give me "Macos sonoma not compatible with this mac" even though it is?

can this work for employee mdm locked iMac ?
Yes, it works on all kinds of MDM locked devices. I don’t know your situation, but it’s best to contact your employer to make sure they can’t remove the lock first.
when I attempt to type commends telling me there no auch file or directory
Try cd /System instead of cd System
Not working. Help please.
To continue the process MacBook need a connection with internet 😢
You might not have grabbed the right installer, some smaller ones require an internet connection. Make sure you grabbed the full installer, they should be on Apple's website.
Thank you!!
Hello Matt's Tech I just wanna know if its permanent fix?
This doesn’t remove the lock from Apple’s servers, so every time you need to reinstall the OS, you have to do this process. However, when updating macOS, the hosts file isn’t touched, so you can update it as much as you want. :)
@@MattsTech noted. thanks Man for the great work.
Does it work om macbook air 2020?
Pre-T2 Macs are from 2017 and earlier (including the 2019 iMac). No Mac that is currently supported right now with macOS Sonoma, excluding the 2019 iMac, is a Pre-T2 model.
Intel days without T2 were simpler.
Agreed.
can i upgrade the OS after this ?
You should be able to, yes. Though any Pre-T2 Mac lost support anyways.
