⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ R142 and R142As Running in 6 Line Service
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 янв 2021
- As a result of track work that cut off Westchester Yard from the southern portion of the 6 line, several trains of R142 and R142A equipment from the 4 line were used to provide 6 line service, which is normally provided by R62As. This video is notable as the 6 line originally used R142A equipment from 2000 to the early 2010s. Enjoy!

R142As on the 6 Train is a true legend
They've been serving the 6 sense 2003
@@lewisasaprichards5649 The (6) line used to have REDBIRDS R29, R33WF and R36WF together with the R62A during the 1990's. The R142A trains arrived on the (6) line in the year 2000.
@@Hotters9060 yes your right but I was talking about the line being fully operated by NTT
@@lewisasaprichards5649 Yes you are correct. The R142A trains took over the (6) line completely in 2003 after the REDBIRDS and the R62A's were sent to the (7) line at that time.
@@Hotters9060 then the R62as came back to the Pelham line because the R142as got reconverted to the R188s for elven cars trains for Cbtcs for the Flushing line That's when the R62as took over the Pelham 6 line
Remember this announcement: This is a Pelham Bay Park bound 6 Train making express stops in the Bronx. Yes or No.
Yes
Loved that announcement. I’ve been looking for videos that have that exact announcement in them.
Yes
Yup 💯💯
no it was usually: this is a pelham bay park bound 6 local train (or parkchester bound 6 local train)
After all these years, they return. Really missed the R142s for the 6
Yeah. They went to the 7. Ever see that mutant 11th car?
@@jokerinthebronx The now retired Redbirds together with the R142A trains are my favorite subway cars in NYC.
@@jokerinthebronx The now retired Redbirds together with the R142A trains are my favorite subway cars in NYC.
@@Hotters9060 I dis agree with that first the value the R142as are not retiring from the Pelham line like they said must of the R142as went to Flushing for Cbtcs to reconverted to the R188s 200 R142as were sent to the Jerome avenue 4 line you know all the old Redbirds got retire back in 2003 the R142as whent to the Flushing line and Jerome avenue line
@@leecornwell1062 I was stating that the Redbirds that retired in 2003 are my favorite subway cars along with the R142A's.
You are absolutely correct though. Some of the R142A trains were converted to R188's for the (7) line and the remaining original R142A's that were built in the early 2000's were taken off of the (6) line and were transferred to the (4) line back in 2018!!!
In November 2020, I rode an R142A 6 train #7593 towards 149 street. The ride was LEGENDARY and #7593 reminds me when I mostly rode 7300's on the 6 in the 2000's.

That was the old R62As and bc of how loud the brakes are, they should either be retired or refurbished

One day, this will be the norm again. R62s will probably not outlast the R142s
Try to see the new Announcement on the 7 train
Why does Lexington have Dianne’s recording instead of Jessica’s.
I believe the computer on the R142 and R142A had a update with the software which caused jessica and Dianne's announcements to mix a little bit for lexington.
I like the 6 train like that tbh
Pretty soon the pelham line will get mixed equipment of R142/As & R262s
They should make the r62a 6 trains be Bronx local and the Bronx exp bound 6 trains be r142A
I never expected r142 on 6 train.
The MTA should fix those automated announcements on the 4 5 and 6 lines. And bring back the 68th Street - Hunter College announcement as it represents a university.
Why?
@@TheRailLeaguer because people do like it that is why I swear bro everytime people don't like what they like the bitch and complain about it the announcements for the 4,5,6 lines are just fine they might get a upgrade in the future might
@@jimmyjj9410 They plan to re-record all the announcements for all the NTT cars.
However, who does the announcements really shouldn’t be a concern for anyone, as long as they have essential announcements like what train it is, what the next stop is, destination, etc.

@@TheRailLeaguer source?
Cool
Now all we need are the R62s back on the 7 for a bit and also it would be nice to see some R142s on the 7
The R62as can not come back on the Flushing line anymore because of Cbtc however the R62as could go to other lines not the Flushing line so that's out
Now the. Flushing line now uses all 100% of R188s that the reason why the R62as is back on the Pelham line not only that the Flushing line was ready for Cbtcs
That's the reason why they have the R62as back on the Pelham line and the Flushing line has 100% of the R188s R142as and the rest of them were sent to the Jerome avenue 4 line. However we are gonna definitely see more changes are coming next year way before the brand new R262/as comes for Cbtcs. You know that the G trains has 100% of R160s. Nomore R68/as and R46s on the G line anymore because of Cbtcs. The R68/as R46s will go to the N/Q/W trains.
Can someone explain why that gap is between the platform and the train @ the 14st station?
The platform is on a curve, and trains have straight sides, so a gap is formed when the train is stopped on the curve.
@@BenTheMiner thanks
Will they stay on the 6 line or will it be gone again?
This is temporary.
The next thing the mta needs to do is put back some of the R160 trains back on the N train.
Some R160s are already back on the N. More specifically:
A one to one swap between the Siemens sets at CI and some Alstoms at Jamaica to install the CBTC kits.
The R160s is also back on the Q/W trains aswell mixed equipment s r46s R68/as R160s
Did anyone notice when the announcement said, "The next stop is" at 0:54 it sounded like that of the R142 instead of the R142A it was?
That update was applied to all R142/A cars.
@@TheRailLeaguer Oh, I guess I missed that not riding the subway for months because of Covid.
@@TheRailLeaguer What even is the point of an update like this?
@@BenTheMiner I have had heard rumors that the some announcements were changed or deleted to deal with storage space on the onboard computers.
@@TheRailLeaguer I doubt changing that would do anything. Besides, they already deleted a bunch of defunct programs. But I guess it's because it's old technology, though they could try upgrading it.

I Have never seen an R142/R142A 6 Trains Before.
YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHH BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII R142A BACK ON THE 6 LINE YEAH BOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
ITS NEVER BACK
@@jellyplayztrainzzz5591 The video proves otherwise
Finally sheesh at least we see ntts on the 6, I got so sick and tired of those boring r62as. But I would imagine the R62As having mechanical issues and the R142/As return to the 6.
If an R62A has a mechanical problem, they will take that train out of service and swap it out for another R62A set within the dedicated fleet. The 6 needs 370 cars during rush hours and they are assigned 450 cars, so they should have a big spare factor for service.
@@TheRailLeaguer I'm saying if most of the R62As had mechanical problems then they'll probably borrow sets from the 4 to go to the 6.
@@soraforpresident5209 Borrowing sets from the 4 could be disastrous. The 4 also needs 370 cars and it can’t do that without 200 cars.
@@TheRailLeaguer but the 4 can borrow sets either from the 3 or 1 train cars and have them to go to the 4 for couple of days but I wouldn't mind if OTT were on the 4 tbh.
@@soraforpresident5209 The 1 and 3 also need their full roster. There are 365 R62As assigned to the 1 and all 315 R62s are assigned to the 3. During rush hours, the 1 needs around 300 cars and the 3 needs 260. The remainder of the cars have to sit there in the yard for spare trains.
Borrowing from the 2 and 5 is also not an option. Both lines need around 360-380 cars a piece. The combined 2 and 5 train pool consists of 820 cars, and with 720-750 cars out in the road, that leaves at least 100 cars that must sit there for spares.
The A division is different from the B division. We don’t have 300 extra train cars sitting around one can use excess impacting the spare factor, unlike the B division when the R32s stuck around while the R179s were going through teething and standard new car issues.
I never ride MTA trains by myself before. 😮🙏🏿😇
Why are these trains getting new announcements it just doesn’t feel right
It’s for storage space on the trains onboard computers.
It’s also rumored that all the announcements will be deleted and replaced with newly recorded ones.
