  • Phosphorous is one of the three nutrients, along with nitrogen and potassium, used in commercial fertilizers. Without the mineral, many farmers would struggle to get good crops.
However, phosphates cannot be produced artificially, and only a finite quantity can be mined. Chakib Jenane from the World Bank said: “Fertilizers are responsible for about 50% of our global production of food.”
CNBC visited a mine in Ben Guerir, Morocco owned by OCP - the largest producer of phosphates in the world. Iliass El Fali, a managing director in charge of the corporate strategy, sustainability and innovation at OCP, said that the African continent holds the key to global food security.
“Africa uses a tenth of the fertilizer used globally. The average the yields in Africa are a quarter of the global average. And 60% of the world’s arable lands are in Africa,” he noted.
Phosphates are also one of the main ingredients in certain lithium-powered batteries, referred to as LFP or lithium iron phosphate batteries - making these minerals crucial for decarbonization.
Watch the video to learn more about phosphates and their significance to the food on our tables, and the energy transition.

Spain itself was a province belonging to Morocco, south of Iberia. It was under the rule of the Moroccans for four centuries. I am here to teach you the history that you did not study in Spain, and those who rule you do not have the courage to say it. You want me to refresh your memory with two immortal names. The first was the conqueror of Andalusia, Tariq Ibn Ziyad, and the second was Sultan Yusuf Ibn Tashfin in the Battle of Zallaqa. During his rule, Andalusia belonged to Morocco... Morocco is history, and the rest is students.

6:15 For anyone curious about recycling human sewage, there is actually a rather simple and cost efficient method of doing it. The channel "Undecided with Matt Ferrell" has a video about it called "Turning Human Waste into Renewable Energy?".
The TLDW is that you can pressure cook "organic material" to mimic how fossil fuels naturally form to make, well, fossil fuels (primarily bio-char is covered). The company pushing to retrofit waste treatment plants estimates that the resulting "products" could effectively make the treatment plants into power plants with an endless supply of "fuel" producing more power than it takes to process it. It also breaks down PFAS and most other contaminants.

Sedementary deposits such as Morocco have high levels of heavy metals like cadmium and lead which leave trace residue build up in soils as well as radioactives like thorium and Uranium. They are extremely costly to refine to a state apt for food additives, and moreso for LFP batteries. Arriane Phosphate in Canada has the world's largest, purest, and safest undeveloped igneous phosphate deposit with none of the negative elements and is fully permitted.
Also, Rainbow Rare Earth of the London exchange has signed an MOU with Morocco to process their endless gypsum stacks of tailings for the extraction of Rare Earth Elements neodymium and Praseodymium for the permanent magnets that go into electric motors.

their greenbelt initiative and the push for food forests instead of monocrop farming has been MASSIVELY successful. Land that used to produce a single crop in 3 months then be barren the rest of the year now stays green and produces different foods for 9 months of the year. Their geography allows plants to get supercharged from the sun and by using permaculture methods like water management, biomass from the forest itself and animal waste for fertilizer, they're able to grow CRAZY amounts of food in densely packed areas.

It is known that the State of Morocco is the first in exporting phosphate around the world. Unfortunately, the people do not benefit from the income of phosphate, unlike the Gulf countries that benefit from the income of oil, such as: the State of Qatar, the State of the Emirates, the State of Kuwait.

Yes, because forested have plenty of biodiversity in the soil, many opportunities for phosphate to stay in the loop, but our farmland with it's monocrops and constant plowing, loses most of it, which then gets replenished year after year with fertilizer made from phosphate rock. It runs off with the wind out the rain. And simple solutions exist to motivate that problem (like planting bushes around fields, keeping native plants and animals around, letting the ground test once every seven years. And all these practices, though they may have a steep upfront cost, eventually benefit the farmers who do then. We just need to stop replying on megafarming (easier said than done with an ever growing population)...
