    I've seen him live. Doug Stanhope is the best comedian of this generation. There's no word to describe how funny and true Stanhope is. It's crazy how in these days, the truth is comedy.

      If he had the physical comedic apeal, he would be bigger than D.Chappelle. His material is phenomenal.

    • @4Everlast
      @4Everlast 6 лет назад +1

      No, that's not what i ment, if he looked "funnier" like Aziz, T.J.Miller, D.Atell, L.C.K. they all have a wierd look to them, crazy eyes or just look like homeles people, Doug doesn't he looks like you're Joe regular. And his voice is too "regular" too, otherwsie he WOULD be reguarded as THE best ever ! And jeah i know you'w got conservative, dump AND stubworn asses all ower the world, that's why the world looks the way it looks.

    • @4Everlast
      @4Everlast 6 лет назад +1

      It's 2018 !! There shouldn't be any boundaries to push, man. People are clinging to the good old days, but that's all nostalgia and perspective, the world wosn't better, the "world" was better for and to THEM, they're minds are to limited as are their views.

      Yup, him, Bill Burr, and Dave Chappelle are just always in the comedy mindset.
      Hence why both him and Burr have podcasts with good followings. Them just talking about everyday shit is hilarious that's how good they are

    It's amazing how many people don't know who Stanhope is. It's also amazing how in the stand-up comic world he is considered almost untouchable. I get it, it's just odd. He's been on so many shows, he's done so many varied things (sorta). Your average person has no idea about anything involving his name. They do know Attell, Chappelle, Rogan, Silverman, Schumer. Not only do all the "names" know who Doug is, he's somehow ended up in this weird ......I don't know what the fuck it's considered? He's almost somewhat borderline iconic for some weird ass reason. I don't know why at all. I'm a huge fan but fuck man I can't even figure out how to tell co-workers about him. I have to meet someone cool enough to introduce them to his comedy....it's fucking odd....and I've known of no other comedian that had that.
    Ever. There have been popular underground comics. There have been popular backstage comics. I don't think either really fits Stanhope.......but he's fucking it......whatever "it" is. He fills some weird gap that doesn't need to be filled but does. Hell if I know I'm drunk.

      He is too much for most people. His material is very visceral and real, and most people simply aren't prepared for it so it just scares them off. I have always loved him, but knew he wouldn't be as mainstream as other comics, he is, to my mind at least, 'a comedians comic'. It's like that documentary about the 'aristocrats' joke. Nobody does it on stage because the whole point is to go where no audience but comics will follow. Unless he pulls a Bob Saget and simply invents a namby-pamby persona for mainstream shit, he'll remain that way (which is fine by me, I hope he starts selling recordings of shows online and stuff like that, he deserves to be comfortable financially). Much of his material is even explicitly about disputing and tearing down the social norms of mainstream society. The mainstream have those norms because they like them. Bill Hicks had similar issues in his day, going into the unwritten fields of 'this is not OK to make fun of even when "everything" is on the table'.

      Definitely a "comics comic"... He'll never be mainstream. He's too much for mainstream. The reason he isn't known by a lot more people?... good question... My best guess, If you like Stanhope a lot ( I do BTW ) , you will always pause before you recommend him to someone. I usually don't give much thought to what people think about my taste... But with Stanhope. LOL. People may change the entire way they think of you after they watch him. Some people you want to know how you feel, whether they like him or not.... and that is reflected by the comedians you enjoy... others? May just be better to not make that recommendation ;)
