What an amazing artist you are! I have zero artistic talent that I'm aware of but after watching this, I think I can actually pull off a half decent paint background. Phenomenal! Thanks for sharing!
Jason, Hi again. Another brilliant, informative video. Thank you for sharing your techniques. Now I need somewhere to try doing this. Cheers, and stay safe. Michael
Thanks for a great talk through the basics, great results, just create them as you feel on the day- clouds very from day to day, they do help with the end result of the mood of a layout.
Jason gets real at 17:20! 😉 Great video Jason! Way back in ’06 I painted my backdrop with two shades of blue and white. Did some reading on how to paint a backdrop then just jumped in with both feet. I am still happy today with how it turned out. Yours are definitely next level clouds! 😎
Awesome, you make it look so easy. Those are definitely realistic looking. The way you did them was very well presented and I'll have to try this on my new layout walls. Got two 30' walls and dividers galore on islands to do, should be interesting.
I like it. It make it look like a realistic sky with clouds. I learn a new way to paint my sky to blend with my mountains on my layout. Thanks for the pointers. Great video. Be safe and keep videoing. I learn a lot from them.
Fantastic I hope you remember where the door is. Painting clouds on the walls is just a brilliant idea to highlight the layout, I'm definitely going to give that a whirl. 📏📐✂️🖊️🖌️✏️😁
Your videos always serve to boost my fading modelling mojo, Jason. I always come away after each video, newly inspired and enthusiastic. I'm still at capacity as far as display space is concerned, but I haven't given up ;-)
I could see some Bob Ross techniques used as you painted these clouds for your layout, and they look amazing Jason! Once again, you are so masterful! Lisa
These are great looking clouds. Thanks for sharing. Although I will never be able to paint like this it is still a joy to watch. Love all the work you do and how you share it and teach others how to do. Thank you so much and greetings from Switzerland, Urs
I just scrolled down to see if anyone already wrote about Bob Ross. Didn't have to to search long. At 6:20 I thought "Now he is even turning into Bob Ross" painting happy little clouds. :D
Great work once again Jason, I can’t wait to get into painting my clouds. Who in their right mind would put a thumbs down??? All your work is a 1000 thumbs up .
@@JasonJensenTrains Australia needs more guys like you in the hobby. I appreciate your videos and always look forward to seeing the next one Kind regards Jonathan
A brilliant video Jason, those clouds are just so realistic. My late wife could have done this for me but I have no chance whatsoever. That means I will have to stick to "off the shelf " backdrops or photos.
Hi Jason Thanks for a very inspiring Masterclass in sky painting . It just looks nice and works very well. I will have to practice in the cellar :-) Greetings from another Jensen placed in Denmark.
Jason, I think you're right about painting clouds at your level taking quite a bit of artistic talent. But I think some of that can be learned by watching masters like you and studying the techniques used. Too late for this round, but I think anyone wanting to learn from you would love to see a few closeups of the strokes you were using and how your brush was loaded. They are dramatic as you say. You could probably continue and paint Dante's Inferno at the base of them. LOL
Rule #1 when painting a room or rooms at home. Convince the other half it really doesn't need to be done yet Rule #2 if that fails by good paint. It is cheaper in the long run Those clouds have me hearing Lena Horne singing "Stormy Weather" in my head 👍 Now somebody needs come up with a convincing way of doing HO scale rain on a layout 🤔
Great tips and tricks thank you very much. Can tell there’s a lot of practice in getting the weathering just right. Coming from the ink / paint industry myself, What if you were to mix the “crackle” medium directly into the paint other than applying and drying then painting?
Jason you make it look so easy! I really like the dramatic stormy sky reminds me of the matte painting at the end of the first Terminator movie, GREAT JOB. Do you stiple the brush while you paint the cloud to get the feathered effect?
This was a very fun watch.. dramatic..yes.. lots of movement. One tip to try ..see if you like the result.. instead of just water to keep your paint moist..try some "blue" color cheap windshield washer fluid.. it has some tension breaker in it and the blue doesn't really tint the color as you might expect. It also stays wetter a bit longer than just water that evaporates.. give it a try..if you don't like it..no biggie..but, you may welcome it into the palette.
"Move everything to center of room, cover it, mask it"........I do all this and my wife STILL manages to get paint on things where it's not supposed to be
Not too busy, I love clouds but this is dark for me. I thought you might find a way to put rust on door hinges but no. I'm sure you'll find something to rust soon.😁
Yeah I'm not going to be trying that... I agree regarding painting the structures. I have zero artistic ability and have built some very nice weather model structures.
Jason love your work, HOWEVER, comments. 1) You mentioned removing to electric escutcheon and masking off the electric components. I firmly agree. Then you proceeded roller painting over what you just advised viewer, especially newbies, not me, with your first coat. This is confusing info for those of us who have not been with you, or painting, or modeling as long as I have. 2) Your use of foam board across the (???storage closet???) door jam is not up to the standards I would have believed of you. I would have gone to a Habitat for Humanity ReStore, or Thrift Shops, or Architectural Rehab Warehouses. There I would have picked up a CHEAP Flat Faced Hollow Core Door and a barn door styled over door sliding rail. Attach the rail inside the closets jam. Then attach the door. While paint the skyscape to the doors face I would weigh the bottom of the door down. To prevent the door from tilting inward while applying brush strokes. ~ Jim
Even the simple clouds look great. But, the new one, very dramatic indeed!! I like the threatening weather mood.
Awesome job on painting the clouds. Thank you for sharing this video on how you paint clouds with us.

The final result is awesome and it give a impression of reality on your scenery congrats !!
Excellent!!

Love how laid back you are.. im way too high strung to do this.. my layout looks like ray Charles built it..

You are the new Bob Ross!
"Painting clouds takes artistic talent" TRUTH
Very impressive! And not using references, either!
Thank you so much!!!
Looks good
Nice job!
Thank you!!!
Great tips and tricks thank you very much. Can tell there’s a lot of practice in getting the weathering just right. Coming from the ink / paint industry myself, What if you were to mix the “crackle” medium directly into the paint other than applying and drying then painting?
...well it’s obvious that you are one talented guy! To paint clouds is one thing but it’s a totally another to paint storm clouds! LOL
I have a waaaay quicker method. Base your layout in Scotland, paint the whole sky grey - job done! ;-)
That sounds about right!
Very nice Jason, most realistic. Now all you need to do to complete the picture, is to let your hair grow like Bob Ross...
LOL! Thank you Gerry!!!
Thank you for the inspiration! As you build layers of depth is each succeeding layer a wet in wet to make blending easier?
Jason you make it look so easy! I really like the dramatic stormy sky reminds me of the matte painting at the end of the first Terminator movie, GREAT JOB. Do you stiple the brush while you paint the cloud to get the feathered effect?
Thank you so much!!! Yes I use a stipple technique. Thanks for watching!
outstanding
Beautifully done. I expected you to use an air brush. Why not?
Thank you so much!!!

I tried this with Carlie Simon, but all I got were clouds in my coffee!
NICE
Thanks!!!
Hi Jason. What sheen should a person use gloss , flat, egg shell or does it matter ? Thanks
You should use flat paint.
@@JasonJensenTrains Thank you

LOL!!!!
Thank you for the lack of music over your sped up video. Very calming not to have beats blasting over the action as is so common with so many.
Thank you so much Jack!!!
You make that look way too easy. I could never do that. Maybe I’ll try anyway.
In order to see a color, the color has to be in the source of light. Light sources have CRI color rendering index
Hello, I'm Bob Ross☺
Thank you so much for watching!!! 👍
Not too busy, I love clouds but this is dark for me. I thought you might find a way to put rust on door hinges but no. I'm sure you'll find something to rust soon.😁
Noticed your left hand was often in your pocket while painting. Is there a reason for that? I've done similar but that was to prevent shocks.
Clouds I intimidate me , thanks . Lynn Boyd
Thanks for watching Lynn, I always appreciate it!!!
to paint clouds you shoeld look at videos of the painter Bob Ross , hes a great teacher
