If you'd like to encourage me with some seasonal coffee and cake you can do so here, but no obligation of course! coffee link: www.buymeacoff...
There's nothing as relaxing as hearing your mellifluous tones read to us. Love to listen to you :)
The woods were full of two policemen. Loved that. Going to use that one!
I cannot tell you what a blessing it is to watch you. I feel enriched in so many ways. Thank you for sharing wisdom relevant for these times.
A wonderful reading! Chesterton was spot on. It made my day.
So glad!
What a pleasure!
This was fun and enlightening and relevant! So glad I found you!
Brilliant. Very funny but oh so true.
Thank you.
Tremendous Trifles is also one of my favorite Chesterton collections. "Glorious Eccentricity" an excellent description.
Both Painters Constable and Sargent have the names of ranks of policemen.
What an arresting fact 🎨 🖼
Chesterton is so fun to read. Absolute joy and yet, he lingers with you long after as you think of the serious message underneath.
What a delightful way to start the day. As a former policeman in the US, my experience is that the famous and powerful are both more likely to be let off for a crime and more likely to be wrongfully charged. For the former, a recall a president’s press secretary calling the chief prosecutor to get her mom off of a DUI. For the latter, a very famous sports figure was prosecuted for a serious crime that they clearly didn’t commit. One sees how this works. The former has power and connections. The second is a juicy, irresistible target for the little person who wants to “get back” at the powerful, when they find themselves with the rare opportunity.
yes, that's a good observation. Fame is double edged
I have that tamper! Wonderful stuff sir. I enjoy your channel so much. And I just found out our new priest met you at Nashota House in Wisconsin!
Thanks for this. After you read from this book the first time, I found it on Kindle and read the whole book, sharing snatches with my family. Great humour and profound truths.
Wonderful, & very apt in these political times.
I just love this
Fantastic and so pertinent today!
Chesterton's imagination!Thanks Malcolm
Thanks for listening
Malcolm I've only just rediscovered your channel, I've been enjoying it very much and it was wonderful to hear you discussing Tolkien on Radio 4 the other night. Happy Christmas!
Thank you kindly
This man has a way of reaching our inner child just like father Christmas its warm rich humorous and classy all wrapped into one great job good sir 👏👍
You are so kind
Chesterton was a comedic genius 🤣🤣
This was great, Malcolm! I love Chesterton!
God Bless you Reverend Guite thank GOD you're a tolkienist like me
I suppose that essay, fresh and good, must be about a century old. Happily, people don't know that Chesterton is a classic. Don't tell!
Never pick a fight with a man of words! Bruises of the flesh will heal, but a cut from the pen of a sharp author lasts for eternity. Thankyou for sharing this Malcolm. 🌲🔪👮
And thank you for your brilliant ballad rendition!
One of your best readings yet Malcolm. As a former Police Captain, I found this fun on so many levels, and completely relevant to the trials we find in current life.
Thank you for the introduction to Chesterton.
Be well,
Stephen
Thanks, if you run through the comments you'll see that several policemen have responded with fascinating comments and stories!
That was beautiful,prof...
a twist and a turn, then left me thinking
merry xmas!
Thank you! Cheers!
"Cruelty to vegetables"!! Fantastic poem, had me laugh out loud. Chesterton is now one of my priorities. But I wonder. Throwing knives at trees may or may not be a crime, but it is suspicious and I would expect local law enforcement to investigate if it was taking place in my own suburban neighborhood. Probably put an end to it if it is public property, and if the knife-thrower has no place of residence or a checkered past, maybe offer 1) some assistance, or 2) a polite but firm invitation to move along. But if it is just some knucklehead that is staying with a local resident, offer an escort back inside and let the matter go. Ideally, this situation is more about common sense than money or influence. Of course the real world is not ideal.
This poem also brought to mind the movie "Cool Hand Luke", especially the opening in which Luke is systematically beheading parking meters. In which he attempts to stop the flow of the people's green blood to the City.
Great video and beautiful reading sir.
A nice way to start my Sunday morning.
Out of curiosity, I was wondering if you would mind sharing what your preferred or favourite pipe tobacco is?

I love your videos so much!
Glad you like them!
Sounds like he got off lightly on account of his status, the affliction of tyrants is truly unconscionable.
The moral is profoundly topical isn't it?
it is indeed!
Would have been better had the poem ended earlier, he does labour the point somewhat, a good point though it is.
actually its a prose piece, not a poem, though Chesterton was also a good poet!
@@MalcolmGuitespell ah, I see.
