I enjoyed this immensely. I would love to hear your thoughts on Blake's view of connection between the creative process and religion. Jacob's Ladder is one of my favourite pieces of Art from Blake, and much of your commentary on the imagination brought to mind Blake's poetry and artwork.

    "When I was a child
    I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
    The child is grown
    The dream is gone
    I have become
    Comfortable numb."
    - Roger Waters

You're the first one I've heard mentioning the Imaginative Apprehension in over 50 years since I read of it in a Harper's magazine.

I love that you embrace the mystery of God. The argument is not the proof when it remains a mystery and to be seen as so

I know a great number of things but can't speak of what I know
I don't know how to begin or where to start
something in the sounds of the night
something that can't be taught to you or learned
something deep down inside that's remembered
I may be able to find
the very words you are looking for
    but could not yet speak
    as you may be able
to find those words I could yet speak
    this understanding of something
I can almost say but just can't find the words
for it is of a different dimension
just beyond the present at hand
    lost deep in my memory
right on the tip of my tongue

Thank you! Some great "bodying forth" there :) I love the final reference to Ephesians 2 - That we should know ... that which passes knowledge... that we should comprehend that which passes comprehension! Also thinking of some of the references to heaven and earth in the psalms... especially 36:5 Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. (Interesting it is not faithfulness reaching from the heavens but starting from down here - a hint of the incarnation?) I will checkout your book now on poetry - thanks again 👍

I struggle to believe that a man as educated and well read as you actually believes in God, or some higher power.
You strike me more as a man that would be more aligned with someone like Christopher hitchens.
